Feigning illness to miss a meeting
by dozy inas jws , we all remember the thought of dragging oneself out of bed on a nice sunny sunday meeting or getting home tired after a hard day at work contemplating another boring , pointless , repetitive weekday evening meeting.. as the only legitimate reason for missing a meeting is illness , the only way for anyone to avoid a meeting that they really couldn't be bothered to go to ( ie most of them ) is to "pretend" to be ill. so given an average meeting attendance of 60% or so , invariably many people would be missing , presumed dead ( or "ill".
we used to have a congregation game of football ( soccer ) on a sunday afternoon and it always amused me how many jws who were "too ill" to attend the meeting on the morning would suddenly recover , lazarus style , to play without exhibiting any signs of the apparently near fatal acute health condition of that morning.
one of the more officious elders tried to introduce a rule that the only ones who could play would have to have been at the meeting that morning , but in practice it was very difficult to police and the better players tended to be the ones who missed most meetings.. one of the problems was the risk that some well meaning and / or nosey jw would phone up ( or even turn up , unannounced ) at the house to see "how you were" and clearly it didn't go down too well if they found you in rude health chasing the dog or kids around the garden..

The Amazing Andamanese People
by LoveUniHateExams ini recently watched a documentary about andamanese people on youtube.. the andaman archipelago is officially ruled by india and lies in the bay of bengal, between the eastern coast of india and burma.. the indigenous people are or were stone age people, hunter-gatherers.. they have the general appearance and stature of african pygmy people.. there are 4 main surviving groups: great andaman (made up of several tribes, although the remaining people are few in number and have discarded tribal boundaries), jarawa, onge, and sentinelese.
i've read a bit about their languages (only on wikipedia - tsk!

Why is the white race so different?
by Crazyguy inwhat i'm saying is the white race is the only one that has a verity of eye and hair colors , so what gives?
is it that this race was influenced genetically by a group of pre humans that didn't mix with other races?

Leaving it all behind.
by Jazzbo ini haven't been on an exjw site for months and months.
i frankly am way past the point where i define myself as an exjw, i am who i am and it doesn't have really anything to do with the way i was raised or spent a considerable portion of my life, i also refuse to be bound by witness requirements as to leaving, contact with witnesses, or some kind of responsibility to whack people who seem perfectly happy as witnesses over the head with 'the truth about the truth'.
i have recently run in to a few people that seems to simply obsess with their lives as witnesses and why they left and in some cases the way they were treated or mistreated, or the need to "do" something.

Alerts etc
by Xanthippe ini wonder if it's possible for those of us who've been out decades to have alerts or alternatively see a grouping of threads in a folder or something similar if something actually happens of interest in the borg.. i'm not really interested in the day to day stuff about this cult but i would like to know if anything drastically changes as my siblings and their kids are still trapped.
i don't know anything about creating the code for forums so i don't know what is possible but if you don't ask you don't get.
this is not a criticism it's just time for me to move on and just drop in occasionally..

I'll pray for you
by I quit! inone thing over the years social media has made me painfully aware of is how many times i see someone use the phrase "i'll pray for you" and the outcome is bad.
recently a friend of mine who at one time was my manager where i worked got cancer.
a lot of people were praying for him.

The new personality
by longgone ini've been thinking about the changes we make within ourselves after leaving the wts cult.
i'm not referring to how we spend our time now that we actually have some, but who we have become, or working to be?.
the gb carries on and on about "stripping off the old personality and putting on the new one.
