In Appendix B1, there is a timeline for the Message of the bible. On the second page of that appendix, there is a small section entitled "About 1914", what is this? Don't you find it odd that they use the word "About"? Wouldn't anywhere between 1913-1915 qualify as About 1914? Is this the first time they do this?

Kingdom hall constructions in developing countries
by StephaneLaliberte injust about everyone heard about some brother, sister or couple go in the south somewhere to help build a kingdom hall.
what i am wondering is:.
since north americans clearly make more money, wouldnt it make more sense for a brother to work in his home town and give away money to pay some trades man in the south to do the work?

JakeM2012: The airfare alone paid by the volunteers could have paid for hiring a worldwide contractor.

Going in another country to preach makes more sense than going to build something. Those who go out on construction projects spend most of their time working on the project, not much in discussing the bible as missionaries would.
Another though that crossed my mind is the fact that everyone knows that they went out to do this sacrifice. If they simply provided a monetary donation that would have the exact same effect, no one would know. You won’t ever have someone taken as an example in a convention where a brother would explain how he gave away 30% of his salary. On the other hand, you have plenty of people going at the front boasting about all the blessings from going on construction sites in some poor country.

Just about everyone heard about some brother, sister or couple go in the south somewhere to help build a kingdom hall. What I am wondering is:
Since North Americans clearly make more money, wouldn’t it make more sense for a brother to work in his home town and give away money to pay some trades man in the south to do the work? Comparing the respective salary, wouldn’t it be something close to: 3 months for the North-American = 1 year for the South-American?
Please note, I am not saying this is the case, but it’s an educated guess... so if I’m wrong, please correct me.

Not Forsaking Christian Gatherings
by StephaneLaliberte inat the meeting this week, there was a part about placing our trust in jehovah and not worrying about food and shelter (mat 6:33).
the part was based on the 2013 yearbook p138 and 139 where there were two examples:.
a family went to their convention leaving their chickens unattended for a number of days, worried about if they would survive.

Donations aren't coming in from Western Countries: more confirmation
by Julia Orwell inin talking to sparky the elder today (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/263862/1/an-elder-called-me-hes-waking-up-and-knew-id-understand-nice-for-him-to-have-a-friend) i found out he did the accounts for our congregation for years.
he said very rarely did the congregation meet its expenses without some well-off brother chipping in a few grand here and there.
the elders would also make up the shortfall.

I suspect that through the years, they will increase presure to give donations through regular credit card payment and manifacture e means for the elders of the congregation to know who is on the roll. Presure will mount with : Getting your receipt. That way, they'll know who gives what and know who they can try to guilt trip.

wasblind: They don't review the accounts from the platform anymore, but put the account sheet on the billboard. But when monney is lacking, they are never too shy to make a talk in regards to the needs of the congregation.

I stopped giving monney at least 3 years ago. I feel forced to be a JW. So why would I give any penny. I know I'm not the only one.

They didn't say the total number of chicken they had in the first place. If they had 25 or 2000; who knows?

At the meeting this week, there was a part about placing our trust in Jehovah and not worrying about food and shelter (Mat 6:33). The part was based on the 2013 Yearbook p138 and 139 where there were two examples:
- A family went to their convention leaving their chickens unattended for a number of days, worried about if they would survive. Turns out 19 were missing when they came back. Yet, they ended up reproducing more than the neighbors that year end had more chicken than expected.
- Another family didn’t have anything to eat and caught nothing fishing. At the end of the day, they decided to still go at their meeting. After the meeting, turns out that some wind scared the fishes toward their fishing area and they caught fishes using a basket!
What caught my attention is that the first example would be considered animal cruelty in Canada. You can’t just leave farm animals unattended.
As for the second example, wouldn’t it bring shame upon the brothers and sisters in that congregation for not sharing anything to eat with the poor family? What about the example set out by the first Christians helping the brothers and sisters in Jerusalem for basic food (Act 6:1 - 3)? And if the brother was too proud to ask for help at his congregation... then, could we still say he placed his entire confidence in Jehovah?
Finally, why do they equal attending ALLthe meetings with putting your trust in Jehovah? I can’t see the connection.
