The news Digital Journal article mainly sites what the witnesses have said themselves in a press release. The only outside source actually sited is the "AllAfrica" website that praises the efforts of the "UN Women" organization who is using local organizations such as the witnesses. However, if you listen to the witnesses, they are the center of attention of it all.

JW.ORG REPORTS THE WATCHTOWER RESPONSE TO EBOLA
by NAVYTOWN ini just checked the jw.org website and noticed an article about the jw response to ebola.
as i suspected, the entire focus was on alerting and educating jw members about ebola.just like in other disaster situations, the jw organization almost exclusively assists it's own members, ignoring the general public.
it seems their main concern is keeping their members healthy so they can continue to spread the jw message door to door!!!

InquiryMan, the news article is written by a Jehovah's Witness living in Canada. I seriously doubt that we can trust that he actually truthfully represent the locales over there.
Anyone can become a journalist on that site and by no means represents a truthful journalistic work. If you take the time to review his articles, none of them report anything bad about the witnesses and yet, he reports negative things about the catholic church. Therefore, I confidentialy call BS on this news article.

Sorry Blondie, sometimes, what we write sound different then what we meant... I have enjoyed your posts for years on a regular basis... I would not imagine that you were trying to defend the hypocresy of the WT allowing their congragation to wave the flag in chili dispite their doctrinal stand on the matter
... I simply wanted to draw your attention to what I wrote... no disrespect :)

I have gone to google maps and looked at a few kingdom halls there, I have seen 3 of them with polls but no flag. The explaination that they raise the flag on certain days explain the presence of the polls!
I wouldn't be surprised that many don't even do it on thoses days... but the picture at the start of this thread is undenyable.. some actually do it!

Blondie, the JW make a clear difference between if you do something for your boss and if YOU are the boss. For instance, if you work for a roofing company, your boss could tell you to fix the roof of a church. But if you are the boss, you would not be allowed to take the church as a client. Here, the boss is clearly the Congregation, not the government. For instance, would they allow themselves to take a crew of the RBC and, upon directive of the government, fix up a church? Of course not! There is no difference here, the flag is a clear display of alegence to the government.

Spanking VS. Reasoning
by SpeedRacer ini am having a discussion at work with the jw's.
should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.
they both agree with spanking.

Terry: I agree with you that " RELIGION is responsible for a lot of asshole parents who drive their kids out of the house and into dysfuctional lives."
I believe that throwing your kid out is basically quitting up on them.

I do agree that in most cases, you can educate your kids without spanking, however, I can actually remember when I was a 6 or 7 year old kid and I can honestly tell you that sometimes, I didn't give a F**K about all my dad said until he pulled out is buckle.
And yes, he was explaining stuff, taking away toys, putting me in the corner... some days, I swear, the only thing that stopped me was my Dad's buckle.
Today, I don't think the same and comparing a kid to an adult is a false analogy. As a kid, I destroyed properties, played endless pranks, transpassed every where I could, lied, cheeted and beat up other kids. In the end, I was conciously doing these things as I knew all would be forgotten by law as long as I was under 16.
But before I could actually go on with my evil plan, my dad gave me a well deserved beeting (on my bum only) of a life time. You know what? It saved me. I stopped. I had realized that for my dad to respond to my actions with such force, I had gone to far. Especialy that he hit me for things that I had done while he was not aware of all the other things I did ...
If it had not been for my Dad hitting me like he did, I honestly believe I would have become a criminal, JW or not.

Also, I find that as kids grow up, they are easier to reason with and thus, spanking gets out of the picture.
To quote from Rocky Balboa, nothing hits as hard as life. As they grow up, they are able to better understand and withstand “hits” from life that will be worst than what I could ever deliver on their bums. That’s why, when they become teenagers, spanking doesn’t have its place.

I SPANK MY KIDS. Yes, I do. And if you asked me face to face, I’d tell you the same thing. In today’s day and age, people seem to believe it is the worst thing, but I do believe it to be needed as a “last resort”, when everything else fails.
For instance, (1) try to reasons, (2) take away privileges, (3) Threat that I will spank and (4) Spank.
I rarely get to spanking but it seems that from time to time, they need to be reminded just what spanking does.
That being said, there are times where I will forgo all the steps and go directly to spanking:
(1) Blatant lack of respect for an authority figure (ex: name calling).
(2) Not listening to a direct and urgent order such as “don’t run away from me in a parking lot”. I consider that a couple of spanks is much better than being run over by a car.
(3) Screaming uncontrollably in order to make a scene.
That being said, I do teach my kids that they can say NO if they can explain why. Thus, I do not want blind obedience.
