Just curious - is apostasy grounds for divorce?
by LifesNotOver ini know only adultery is supposed to be grounds for "scriptural" divorce.
i'm a wicked apostate in their eyes, but my believing husband and i still can't get a divorce that would allow him to remarry.
we currently are separated - i have left him.

He could do like my mother did: Tell the elders you confessed to him that you cheated on him. They will accept that.

rebelfighter: I'm actually appalled that a municipality would willingly do something like this just to trouble a particular religion. But than again, I assume that everyone in that neighborhood were victim of their hatred as no one could hold a house party since the guess would have no where to park. Bunch of idiots. If they are so troubled by the witnesses, they could they could do some minimal research about their belief, fill out the online form stating that they want a visit, and when they do, could give them a bit of the truth about the truth. Do some reverse witnesses. I believe in a society where people confront ideas. Not bullying.

If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.
i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.
.....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

I'm too well known to pretend that I have never been a JW. However, if I was not in my town, I'd listen to what ever they say and would try to come up with questions that I know they'd try to lie about. Then, at the end of the day, they'd go home and wonder why they had to lie that way.
Do the JWs have a Pope like the Catholics?
No, its a small group of brothers who ... blah blah blah.
Oh, so do you believe that they are prophets? Do they have visions? Are they inspired?
No, they ... blah blah blah.
OK, so then, they lay some ground rules for everyone and other things are left to councience. right.
Exactly!
So what are you preaching about.
blah blah blah ... the last day ... blah blah blah.
How do you know we are the living the last day?
blah blah blah .... 1914 ... blah blah blah.
1914? Is that really in the bible?
Yes... 607 bc, 7 times, great war ... blah blah blah
Yeah that sounds like it would be nice. But obviously, believing this is a conscience matter with JWs, like not ALL JWs HAVE to believe this right?
Well, the bible is clear about this and blah blah blah
Really? So, if I'm like the good Samaritan, I help others, preach that Jesus died for our sins and you need to have a good life, and basically don't do anything, could I still be a witness if, at the same time, I find that 1914 doesn't make sense?
[Expect them to lie right about here]
Do you know any JW that openly doesn't believe in that?
blah blah blah ... maby some in their heart, blah blah blah.
So, if I get this right, this is a teaching that cannot be questioned. Whoa now, this is something very specific to be set as a ground rule by some group of men. Are you sure they're not directly inspired by God like prophets? Can they do some miracles?
No, they are good humble Christien who study the bible blah blah blah
So, they're not prophets, and yet, expect the same authority even weird teachings such as this... something isn't right here...

This house was build at the start of the great depression that was between 1929 and 1939. So, while the unemployment rate was way up, at 25% in the states in 1933, Rutherford had this house for himself and his friends. And don't forget that they already had the big buildings in NY.

This may be a crazy question, but it popped in my head and won't leave. . So I gotta ask. . .
by Miss Worldly inok, this probably applies to most faith systems that believe in any sort of afterlife, but i would like to know what sort of explanation the jw's would come up with for this little problem, you know, after armageddon on earthly paradise.
sorry if i sound dumb, but it's been nagging at me for a few weeks and have to ask.. so, what if a young married jw couple are living their life, waiting for the big a, knowing they will be together in the earthly paradise, then very sadly one of them dies.
from what i know, if a jw dies, that's it.

Don't get me wrong, I love my wife. But eternity? like, hundreds, thousands, millions of years together, always? I don't know. I just don't know. That was one thing that was weird to me. I can easily see myself growing old and dying with my wife now in this life. But that is a total of 70 years at most?
That topic was always in the "you'll figure it out once you get there" section.

Elder asking for help
by untruth inthis is my first time posting on here so i’m not sure where to start.

Untruth, you need to be very progressive about this and also in a matter that will always place you as a spiritual man, within the parameters set by the Watchtower.
First, decrease the number of responsibilities you have. You can explain to the brothers that you simply do not have the energy anymore. In the same time, explain to your wife that you need more time for your personal study. Make sure to avoid trigger words such as “Doubts”, “disagrement”, etc. On the contrary, use words like: “Deepen my understanding on teachings I’m expected to know as an Elder. “ “Some teachings are complex; very complex, and I just want to be sure I can explain it properly.” “the brothers are right: when we don’t understand something, we need to study more, Jehovah will show the way.” While you research these things, share as less as possible with her. She won’t be ready for that.
Step two: Explain to your wife that despite all the researches you made, you feel somewhat inadequate to teach these things on to others as you don’t seem to be able to understand all the connections between the teachings. Tell her that instead, you prefer to humbly accept your limits and that you will wait on Jehovah. In the meantime, try to be as positive as you can about the truth and invite people over and act normal.
Now watch. Just watch all the bad things that will be said about you and about your wife and how you will lose friends and opportunities like ever before.
This will likely be very hard for your wife to live. She will feel a strong wind of coldness from the brothers and sisters and will wonder about where the love is. At that time, she might ask you about what exactly were the things you had difficulty understanding. Then, make sure to share information that only elders have access to. This will push her resentment even further, perhaps to the point of quitting the truth all together.
All I can say is: Stay strong brother, this will not be an easy journey!

Why cant Judicial Committees be taped?
by HereIgo ini have never understood this.
was it because of legal reasons?
i cant think of any other reason why it wouldn't be allowed, but i know the elders ask you repeatedly that you are not taping.

And here I am, day dreaming, of going into the elder's room (or second school) and place a hidden camera I could access remotely.
Ahhhh, wouldn't it be nice?

This is an interesting topic. In and about leaving the JWs, I have spent much time meditating on the message of the Christ: Love God and your Neighbors. He often explained that it is not the intellectuals and the people occupying prominent places that will be saved. Rather, it is the meek lowly humble ones who know how to love and be loved.
This logic applies even to the dim witted and the mentally challenged. In the end, the most important thing, above everything, is love.
But than, so can animals: Cats, dogs, cows, pigs, mooses, bears and others can show love and be loved as well.
I wonder than, what are the arguments that would make us SOO much different from the animals that we would be deserving of God's blessing compared to them?
