Jehovah's Witnesses prefer to devote their time and financial resources to announcing the good news of God's Kingdom.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not tithe or in any way solicit funds .
So, which is it, Watchtower?? The article from the Watchtower Society solicits donations from JWs in the very same article in which it claims not to do exactly that!

Exactly! A subtle reminder to all 'good' JWs to devote more time and more financial resources to wtbts - and I'm sure there're many reminders at the meetings about how it's 'OUR' responsibility to pay for books and magazines at the counter, and to make sure all donations are deposited in the proper slot that is NOT a collection plate like Satan's churches. So they're FULLY paid once by the 'publishers', and again if there's a donation. You can't buy million dollar printing presses without millions of dollars... pressed down and sucked out of their own members - they're leeches! I know some older ones who'd give anywhere from $20 to $50 for video tapes they gave away FREE. I think it was just their selfless charity, a personal tithe in a way. I love those people to death - it's the false prophets at the top of that pyramid scheme I loathe... Can't get around it - they are LIARS. I was carefully taught how to correctly beg for donations! After teaming up with Jimmy Swaggart et al, you couldn't just straight-out ask, you have to be a little sly, off-hand about it. At the end of an at-the-door conversation we were taught to say - "BTW... the Christian Congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses print and distribute FREE Bibles and FREE Bible literature in over 200 languages all over the world. IF you'd like to donate towards this wonderful work of spreading God's Word in foreign lands, then I'll be pleased to make sure your contribution is earmarked for this all-important WorldWideWork." There were constant reminders and examples to use to SOLICIT money in the door-to-door work in the KMs each month. I haven't seen a KM for years - has it changed that much? It was further stressed to mention that it's a charitable donation towards God's work to prick their consciences to give... prolly so they wouldn't feel like they were helping finance a CULT ! Plus they demean other Christian ministers who're so 'trained' to appeal to the emotions when asking for money, the manner of 'passing the plate', etc. Hypocrites! When I first joined the wts, there'd been a major cost in repairing something at that KH. The elder who presented the 'special needs' talk was so good at pulling those emotional strings that he actually made me cry with regret that I didn't have MORE money to give. (His daddy was a Pentacostal preacher and would've been proud - his boy SOLICITED great!) The main part that's always bothered me is - they're LIARS. It was always supposed to be about THE truth - but they LIED, got caught in their lying and still continue to lie and think nothing of it! It's beyond my comprehension. I really don't know how the GB sleeps at night - they must know - they really can't not know...watkins

That's great Jeff! If there's a site that'd help him more I wouldn't know where - Randy's site is the best for raw info. I received an invite in the mail last month from the one couple who'll never give up on me coming back...

Sunday we went to the in-laws for dinner and when we got home there was a WT stuck in the door - and it was an old one - I no longer rank a current rag! I'll survive somehow... lol.

Quit beatin' around the bush and tell us how you really feel... LO! And I agree 100%.

I see now there's no room for the idea they were ever captives to any concept - it was a carefully laid construction. Degrees of variables were built in from the beginning, so there's an always evolving 'present truth'. No absolute truth like they deceivingly taught, just lies drifting this way and that in the slightest breeze. Truth doesn't need the aid of 'tacking in the wind', but their doctrines do. imho truth leads straight to the Christ - where do WT doctrines lead? Pretty clear now isn't it? They were the devil's own who conceived the deception, and devils that perpetuate it.

We were the captives, since they convincingly taught us that Bible study is to squint at the words through the WT-approved pinhole. And for some reason we really believed it... There's always a one-scripture answer to prove their authority and right-ness, and our focus was kept on the WTS, diverted from Christ.

I think it was all part of the journey, 'uninformed', and we're still walking away from JWism, step by step. And that's part of the Good News too, that we're captivated by them no longer - we've been set FREE! Thank God for that!

Take out the religious element and this is a corporate SALES MEETING! Sell more more more magazines and books! Snnnn-aaap! All that's missing are pie charts and line graphs. I was surprised to read thru the posts and no one had said that... but maybe I'm the only one who thought that... lol. This scrip. came to mind: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you traverse sea and dry land to make one proselyte, and when he becomes one you make him a subject for Gehenna twice as much so as yourselves."

Yes Jeff, I've wondered also at the fear-induced negative slant of JW mentality. What drew me to them was that they were the only ones who said they had all the Truth - no other church I'd ever attended said that. By means of their clever indoctrination they convinced me. But it was that negative and very judgemental vibe that caused the dissonance in me that lead me out. It's not until you've taken several steps back and can view the big picture that you realize how far from imitators of Christ we really were. And we thought we were doing it all "just so"...

I do see a scary future WT with all it's adherants on anti-depressants because for decades they've targeted the most troubled and depressed persons. And yes, I suspect number fudging, but all's fair in love and theocratic warfare. Did you find out anything more about the way the numbers are reported?

AllTime Jeff - the WT taught me those rich people just didn't love God, that they'd made a decision for riches against Him. Some of the sisters would say the rich thought they already had 'paradise' and other rotten judgementalism. I came in around the time they changed the light about JWs helping to judge the goats and sheep and they told me lots of stories on themselves. I was out in service once when a sister refused the 'householder' a the WT-book-of-the-month because "she didn't deserve it, her kids were dirty and they'd just gotten up at almost noon!"

Hmmmm............I'll make note of that in case I'm ever hauled before a Judicial Committee where they're all ready to 'judge me'.

Won't do you any good Mary darlin', they whip out their judging license for JCs - 'For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Do you not judge those inside, while God judges those outside? Remove the wicked [man] from among yourselves.' 1Cor. 5:12,13 and Heb. 13:17 - Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you and be submissive, for they are keeping watch over your souls as those who will render an account.; that they may do this with joy and not with sighing, for this would be damagin to you.' I've never been JC'd, but everytime I've talked to any elders they never fail to mention those 2 scrips.(for not being obedient to them and their directives to return to the org.)

All I can say is this is the same old stuff... BUT the dissonance caused from being forced to agree with all their ridiculous crap was what made me see the light vs. the lies - YAH! I know it's worked for thousands before me and hopefully millions more to come.

I think my generation's called "What The Hell Was That?" hehe. I remember when my generation were definitely not Baby Boomers, then my daughter came along and was 'Generation"X"' (I think. It's really hard to keep up with all the labels), and now I'm kind of retroactively lumped in with the Boomers. Maybe I'm of the "Forgotten Generation". If only they'd let me forget, lol. wait... what was I talking about? oh yeah...

I liked them all, but especially Midnight Special with the Wolfman! "Clap for the Wolfman, he's gonna rate your record hi-igh..." lol. Like John, it was my sister who loved Bandstand at it's best, and so I did too. It was on a lo-o-ong time. I've always loved Motown and Soul Train was a wonderful showcase. I even liked Hullaballoo!(sp?), 'member that?

Seems I still like to watch people dance and it makes me smile.... PBS has been showing Ballroom Dancing and I'm in awe. Don't think I was ever able to move like that!

We've all had trouble with our animals, but I don't think anyone can top this one:

Calling in sick to work makes me uncomfortable. No matter how legitimate my excuse, I always get the feeling that my boss thinks I'm lying.

On one recent occasion, I had a valid reason but lied anyway, because the truth was just too darned humiliating. I simply mentioned that I had sustained a head injury, and I hoped I would feel up to coming in the next day. By then, I reasoned, I could think up a doozy to explain the bandage on the top of my head. The accident occurred mainly because I had given in to my wife's wishes to adopt a cute little kitty. Initially, the new acquisition was no problem.

Then one morning, I was taking my shower after breakfast when I heard my wife, Deb, call out to me from the kitchen.

'Honey! The garbage disposal is dead again. Please come reset it.'

'You know where the button is,' I protested through the shower pitter-patter and steam. 'Reset it yourself!'

'But I'm scared!' she persisted.. 'What if it starts going and sucks me in?'

There was a meaningful pause and then, 'C'mon, it'll only take you a second.'

So out I came, dripping wet and butt naked, hoping that my silent outraged nudity would make a statement about how I perceived her behavior as extremely cowardly.

Sighing loudly, I squatted down and stuck my head under the sink to find the button. It is the last action I remember performing.

It struck without warning, and without any respect to my circumstances. No, it wasn't the hexed disposal, drawing me into its gnashing metal teeth. It was our new kitty, who discovered the fascinating dangling objects she spied hanging between my legs. She had been poised a round the corner and stalked me as I reached under the sink. And, at the precise moment when I was most vulnerable, she leapt at the toys I unwittingly offered and snagged them with her needle-like claws. I lost all rational thought to control orderly bodily movements, blindly rising at a violent rate of speed, with the full weight of a kitten hanging from my masculine region..

Wild animals are sometimes faced with a 'fight or flight' syndrome. Men, in this predicament, choose only the 'flight' option. I know this from experience. I was fleeing straight up into the air when the sink and cabinet bluntly and forcefully impeded my ascent. The impact knocked me out cold.

When I awoke, my wife and the paramedics stood over me.

Now there are not many things in this life worse than finding oneself lying on the kitchen floor butt naked in front of a group of 'been-there, done-that' paramedics. Even worse, having been fully briefed by my wife, the paramedics were all snorting loudly as they tried to conduct their work, all the while trying to suppress their hysterical laughter......and not succeeding .

Somehow I lived through it all. A few days later I finally made it back in to the office, where colleagues tried to coax an explanation out of me about my head injury. I kept silent, claiming it was too painful to talk about, which it was.

'What's the matter?' They all asked, 'Cat got your tongue?'

Thanks for the warning AA. That's like those smoozy emails I've gotten for a FREE something(usually a $100 debit card for a chain store or restaurant) if you answer the survey - no purchase required is a hook for me. But it's all the same scam to get your email addy so they can bombard you with unsolicited crap-mail. I was fooled once and thought never again, but I did get got one more time, lol - they're s-m-o-o-t-h and look so innocent and REAL.

On the bright side, you have a 66% chance of NOT going to hell then, lol. That is if you believe in that, which I don't, which is why I didn't click on that particular quiz in the first place.

(gosh surely not ) when they knocked on her door she answered and said if you are jehovahs witnesses then i dont want to be one as you dont allow members to have blood transfusions , they said "that is all nonsence" utter nonsence" she said "so its not true about the girl that died after giving birth to twins then?

" one said "no its not , that was medical negligance , that was " she said anyway ive heard alot of stories about jws (she knows that my child was abused by an ex min servant , that had abused kids in the cong years earlier but did not get reported to the police ) they said "yes and i bet you have heard them from people that are not witnesses " typical reply because its bound to be all lies if its come from someone not a witness !!!!!

I had occasion this past week to be visited by
two from the local congregation inviting me to the CO talk on Sunday. I brought up both the pedophilia issue and
the UN issue. Both elders had not heard of either!!

You do know they looked you right in the eye and LIED to you, right? Had the same thing happen to me and it's the standard response.

The letter from headquarters that was sent to all congregation elders, detailing how to answer questions about those issues, was posted on this board a couple years ago. Instructions were to have the questioner send a letter to Bethel and they'd answer. With more LIES, of course. Haven't you read Brant Jones' series of letters he'd sent and received form them about the UN? They are such LIARS! They've been told to use 'Theocratic warfare' ie:LYING when confronted about these things, and to feign ignorance. Well, at least they have the ignorant part down.
