Wow, they're still twisting that verse... can hardly believe it. The REAL truth is contradictory to the wt take on it -

TIME FOR A MIND EXPERIMENT

try this "mind experiment".. there is a very large sports stadium the size of texas.

inside this stadium there are four enormous crowds of people.

they are all believers in jehovah god and think of their religion as the truth exclusively.. group number one are all the people who read and believed the teachings of charles taze russell.. group number two are all the people who came along after judge rutherford became president of the society.. group number three are the jw's under nathan knorr up to the year 1975.. group number four are all the jehovah's witnesses post 1975 up to today.. .

Biblestudents are a clear and distinct group apart from the others. They wouldn't share the venue. There's 1/4 of the problem solved already, and the others would probably just shun each other... they wouldn't agree on anything, or even attempt conversation... it would be a glare-off. Each group would resolutely believe only THEY had 'the truth'... nothing would be 'settled' between them.

a customer on my route with whom i have had some lively debates was his number 1 complaint is that "the witnesses have so many rules".

last month i agreed with on this issue.

he asked why the change, i told him that i have been doing some soul searching.

DJS beat me to it... By the time a child becomes a teenager, parents had better hope they've already instilled moral values. They learn much more from you, the parents, than from strangers in a strange cult. At least they know and can trust you. Do they know - and can they trust - the men of the gb who're making all the arbitrary religious rules? At least they can look up to you as a man of honor, integrity and truthfulness - things the gb is not, and cannot be. I don't think any of those men have kids - why listen to them?!

Why can you not still teach from the Bible, but without the wt-twist, you know - the lies? Sooner or later they will find out about being taught wt lies... and they might hold you responsible.

getting close to the correct answer is simply called being wrong.. music, on the other hand, can have a wide range of expression not easily judged to be "wrong".

Why do you blame Jehovah's Witnesses for false predictions ?

when you read the pseudapigraphical 2nd peter chapter 3 and other nt writings about the parousia and how close it is, or why it hasn't happened yet, why is it a surprise that the wt/jw's get it wrong all the time ?.

if those early chrisitian writers could make totally false claims, and yet their words are supposed to be "inspired of god", why is it so wrong that the wt/jw's do the same ?.

cut 'em some slack fellers, the wt may be false prophets, over and over, but they are in good company..

Preterists think stuff DID happen in the 1st century. Partial-preterists believe SOME things happened 1st cent., but leave other things open for future fulfillments, like the bulk of Revelation.

I wonder if they're right?

It's 'normal' for religiously-inclined people to look for, and find, fulfillment of major prophecies in their time... evidently. They've been doin' it for 2,000 years, anyway.

Like DCMS said - they're carrying on a long tradition.

They ARE! It was an ex-SDA forum that helped me see they are the same, same, SAME.

Simon's suggestion is spot-on. If it's about some other religion doing something unscriptural, jws will more likely watch it, thinking wt is superior and this is just more proof. The similarities will astound them and hopefully get 'em thinkin'.

The wt's failing to be honest about their history is a major red flag. This is a religion which delves deeply into other religions' pasts to uncover deceit and wrong teachings - but they don't allow honest research of their own record! Of course we know why they don't - wt history is littered with falsehoods, threats and fear. So they became revisionists with their old light/new light, past/present teachings. How can jws not see it, or not think it matters? It matters a LOT when they're digging around into 'pagan connections' and such. I guess cognitive dissonance is more crippling for some than others... or more entrenched? Terry, for my part, I NEVER believed God would destroy everyone other than jws. Maybe that's why my exit was smoother and less traumatic than for some others. Miller, compared to Russell, might seem more apologetic, more humble. But they both went to their deaths wholly believing their respective chronology was only off by days or months. They were prophets in their own minds, apparently. It just taught me not to follow any man - or woman - who makes amazing claims without amazing proof... Even with super-amazing proof, I would remain skeptical. This post looks entirely different than yesterday - there are no smilies, for one thing. And no paragraphs (?) watkins
