But, your parents are not to blame, and have no conception of the anger you hold inside. They, like many of us, were drawn in by thoughts of a loving God making this earth a cleansed paradise. They want wickedness such as you observed to end, and for all people to be loving and peaceful.

Thanks for the comments Quandry. This is something that makes it all the harder. I know that the individuals within the org are generally nice and good people drawn in by the illusion of a loving society. If my parents were fully concious of how evil it really was and still went along with it, I would have no problem giving an ultimatum along the lines of "choose your family or the religion", and I'd happily walk away without a second thought if they chose the WTS. But they don't realise, and are not conciously practicing the evil policies of the borg.

The society does paint a very rosy picture of happy smiling "united" families, sat in a paradise, and it cleverly gives the impression that they are family orientated. But the more I see on this forum, the more I realise the family is not in the least bit important to them. This forum is filled with people who have had their family ripped to pieces. I think the post by mouthy http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/134305/1.ashx sums this up completely. Very sad.

I think this anti-family aproach may be my best hope as family is very important, especially to my mother. All my brothers and sisters have left the org, and none of the extended family are or ever were in, so my parents are the only ones left. Maybe showing how the society (run by old men that have never had families) are so against the family, to the point that you should disown a relative for being raped, is the way to convince them that this isn't quite as the happy images would suggest.

Arguments about the flood.

i posted a thread yesterday about evolution and population since the flood, http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/134218/1.ashx and there were some arguments from the point of view of jw's that would be hard to counter....for me anyway.

but it raised some other questions that i'd like some feedback on.. namely, is it just me who thinks it's just ridiculous that noah could've collected all the animals from across the globe and got them on the ark?.

according to the united nations global biodiversity assesment, there are an estimated 1.75 million species on the planet.

I'm not trying to get my parents to think like I am, I just want them to see the flaws and out right lies of the WTS. I don't personally believe in a god at all, but I know I may not be right and some people need to believe and do believe in god. I suspect my parents will believe in god regardless of how, and that's fine and may be correct. I don't know.

But I really hate the way they are being duped by people that I seriously suspect are not in the least bit religious. I think the old men have just used religion as a tool to control people and make a lot of money. That's what I'm trying to get my parents to see and escape from. I thought the flood may be a simple childs story that I could use to open their eyes to this falseness.

If you saw a toddler wobbling along the edge of a high cliff, would you lunge towards her to save her from falling? Would you yell and startle her? Or rather, would you quietly come alongside and coax her away? The danger is real, but startling your parents with your new-found knowledge will not get you what you want.

What an excellent illustration, thanks jgnat, I'll remember that one. I know I can be a bit hasty which is why I posted this thread...slow me down a bit.

I think I'm probably more aware than a lot of people to the fact that all humans are capable of some pretty horific things under certain circumstances, but what infuriates me is the comlpetely sober and rational thought that the witnesses give this sort of policy. It flies in the face of all your natural instincts. It's natural to instinctively protect and care for ones immediate family, but the brainwashing dictatorship of the WTS has made otherwise decent people deny their natural feelings and go along with a rule that means not just NOT protecting your family, but actually punishing them even more. How does that work?

My parents are ageing and not in great health. I'm worried that if I don't say something pretty soon, they will die in the org, have some a**hole elder conduct a witness funeral and no doubt have their will written in a way that benefits the org, and I'll be bitter in the extreme.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My trouble is I'm not a patient person so I want to open my parents eyes to this NOW! I've been thinking of a way to kind of "reveal" the truth to them, and I was favouring the route of holes in their doctrine such as the flood etc, but after what I read this morning about the rape policy I just think pointing out the complete evil of this to them will be my best bet.

Obviouly most of the witnesses aren't evil and may not go along with the policy if it ever happened to their family, but the point is they're prepared to just bury their head in the sand and pretend this sort of "law" doesn't exist, and hope the issue never arises. Surely if they stop and think about such a rule, any decent person would think it unacceptable and maybe start questioning what kind of organisation would promote it.

I wouldn't just ignore my parents without explanation, but how do I appraoch the subject without just losing my temper about the whole thing?

As you can see from my posts I'm new here. I was born and raised in the borg....dad was/is an elder. I never liked the religion simply because it stopped me having fun like other "normal" kids. As soon as I reached my late teens I just left. I was never baptised so no DFing or DA. I just kind of dissapeared from it all.

For the last 12 years I haven't really given it a second thought. I just always viewed it as another silly religion that didn't do any harm, they were basically just nice people with silly ideas. Since leaving I've had a great life, and being an ex-JW has had no real impact on my life. Obviously still see my parents a few times a year but the religion is never discussed.

However, I've recently been looking at sites like this one and a few others, and I'm starting to learn things that I never even thought of before. Specifically I've been looking at all the doctrinal changes (new light), and policies they have that are not only absurd but disgraceful. I'm finding myself getting more and more angry that my parents are so taken in by a devious and deceptive group of old men in NY. They are blatantly being lied to and psychologically controlled.

The final straw for me was the threads I was reading this morning about the rape policies in the "best of" section. That is so grotesque I can't believe any normal or decent human being would think that is anything but appalling. How can anyone sit in the kingdom hall when these policies are being read out and not stand up and say "No Way". To sit there and accept that your wife and daughter should be DF'd because she was raped beggars belief. How can the woman be in the wrong.

When I was in Iraq, having just "liberated" a small town, we took over the duty of control, law and order, an angry mob came up to my checkpoint. It was a family bringing their daughter who had just been raped by the uncle (the uncle was also brought along). The family was obviously angry and wanted justice. As a small group of male soldiers, our first thought was to wach that the family didn't suddenly turn around and lynch and kill the uncle....which seemed to us the most likely outcome of this situation. However, right before our eyes, the father pulled out a knife and cut the throat of his own daughter, nearly decapitating her. He said she had brought shame on his family.............the uncle faced no retribution from his relatives. Everyone of us who watched that has been unable to comprehend how a father could think that and do what he did. I justified it in my head that those people are less than animals and evil in the extreme.

Then I saw this morning that my own parents hold exactly the same belief. So now far from thinking this is querky little religion that can be laughed at and provide amusement for the rest of us, I now see it as completely evil.

As a result of this I don't really want anything to do with my parents. If they are that evil, just because they are my own flesh and blood,it doesn't mean I shoould make an exception for them.

Out of principle and true morals which I think I have, I would never talk or associate with a peadophile, so out of the same principles I can't really talk to people who think a young woman should be "cast out" for "willingly" (on the count that she was terrified for her life and didn't scream) being raped.

My first thought is I'm going to tell my parents how evil their masters are and give them the chance to open their eyes and leave. Failing that I think I'm going to have to just cut myself off from ever having anything to do with them.

I'd like some feed back on this and any advice would be great. Appreciate it.

W.Once, I think I may have put my point across a bit confusing. You're absolutely right about this war, Saddam was no risk at any time and not just the US people were duped by the US government, but most of the NATO countries. I'm not defending the war or the motives behind it in any way, and yes it has done the world more harm than good.

I was just looking at the video as saying we should support the troops as individual people at all times. I wasn't looking at it as support them in Iraq specifically. I thought it was a moving reminder that the vast majority of the forces are good people who join up for noble reasons on a personal level, and the public at large should remember that. Forgetting the politics of the moment, the troops should always have the support of a nation who they defend. They may not be defending them in combat, but the very fact of having a standing army.......even in peace time, protects a nation from potential threat, it's a deterant.

I have a neighbour who despises the military, thinks they are the worst kind of human being imaginable. I try to remind her that without the military, she'd be speaking German and would certainly be in a concentration camp if she dared to speak her mind in such a way. The military provides her with the right to say and think what she likes.

So my point about the video is just show some support to the individuals, now, 10 years ago, or 10 years from now. The politics of the matter is a totally different subject.

I disagree. I don't think they are going to destroy themselves as it were.

Yes the numbers are dwindling in the west as we become more educated and secular. But all the WTS is doing is switching focus to the third world. They are now targeting almost entirely uneducated people, who are very supersticious and much more easily manipulated.

I think they're time is coming to an end in North America and Europe, but they'll just change location. Places like Africa are like a ground floor opportunity for the WTS businessmen. The education is zero so they can easily tell people what to think and they'll think it. Secondly, as the rest of the world focuses on bringing Africa out of poverty, incomes will rise as will the general standard of living which means people will have money (not much granted, but enough to buy the magazines if it'll save their lives). It's like a dream come true for any comapny, and the WTS are getting in early to take advantage of the inevitble changes over there. And whats more, it's gives them the perfect opportunity to make dramatic changes to their doctrine for peole who don't know the history of their beliefs. It'll be like a whole new start for them.

It's pretty sick that the WTS is now switching focus on the third world such as Africa with brochures llike this one.

They know that continent and other countries like it are steeped in superstition, and they're using it to exploit them. The education level in those parts of the world are almost non existent, so the people are far more open to interpret things in a more supernatural way, and are also way more open to suggestion.

The WTS has realised that as the western world becomes more educated and secular, that people aren't going to buy into this crap and fear quite so easily, so now they're targeting more vulnerable people.

It reminds me of the tobacco companies who are switching their attention in exactly the same direction. Avoid the educated and trap those who don't know any better.

You're right though about the more basic they make it the more crazy they sound

Hey Snowbird, I've been out for 12 years. Born into the org, grew up never really liking it. I truly believed it like we all did, as I was completely brainwashed from birth, but luckily I had a rebellious streek, and I hated not being "normal" like other kids. In my late teens I realised if I wanted to have fun like other kids at school I had to get out, (even if it meant dying in Armaghedon, which is honestly what I thought was going to happen to me) so I just left. Told my parents I wasn't going anymore, got drunk and fornicated as much as I possibly could, and then I joined the Marines..........carried on drinking, fornicating, and now I could throw killing my fellow man into the pot.

Aren't the children asleep just like everyone else at the meetings? Surely the Sunday morning watchtower marathon was always the perfect time to catch up on a little snooze.
