Come on, it's the online world, where everyone can be a scholar or a stud whether they really are or not. This sort of fakery dates back to 300 baud BBS dialup and Apple ][ computers.

Scientology takes a cue from the JWs' KH scam
by Las Malvinas son Argentinas inhttp://www.buzzfeed.com/alexklein/is-scientology-self-destructing.
not to excuse or make the jw kingdom hall scam any lesser, but these guys really know how to play the game!
sounds like the old jw bait and switch though - tell everyone they need a new facility, make them pay for it and then take the title back to brooklyn or clearwater.

Scientology and Watchtower have differing business models, with quality vs quantity.
Scientology shakes down a lot of loot from tens of thousands of prosperous members to graduate to each level.
The Watchtower nickels and dimes millions of members to keep them at a subservient level.
Both organizations prosper with this arrangement, and they have found a niche that makes it so they are not directly competing for hosts to feed off of.

lordy....lol
Yeah, what can you say?
I got my comeuppance though.
A few years ago I went to Alaska. I was sitting in an eatery enjoying some seafood chowder with huge chunks of halibut, clams and crab legs in a chowder soup base. A Canadian couple was sitting next to me and we were talking, and it suddenly clicked in my mind. Canada was way to the east, and south of me. Take that, border guard persons!!

Another visit from the elders
by jonno12225 inso i have another visit from the elder this week.
this time they want to speak with my wife, still a believer and myself.

It is a good idea to keep it simple.
Start off with the idea of the people in 1919 being chosen as the faithful and discreet slave because of what they were teaching at the time. If that were so, aren't they all dead now? Doesn't the reasoning book say, concerning apostolic succession, that it is not a biblical teaching?
Then get the elders to reconcile all this. Do not accept lengthy blathering non answers that THEY WILL GIVE YOU. Get them to harmonize that, which would be that the faithful and discreet slave are all dead now. Nothing else fits the story as laid out in Watchtower publications unless they falsify one of their assertions, such as the Reasoning book is false, or the slave was not chosen in 1919. Just stay on that and let them tie themselves in knots trying to explain it as you maintain your humble attitude of seeking the truth.

Guns, Politics, and Liberty
by Infowarrior ini was raised as a witness in canada all my life.
the majority of my time attending watchtower meetings i was essentially never exposed to how spiritual beliefs relate to political belifes, even in terms with jw watchtower doctrine.
i grew up understanding that some witnesses had diffrent ideas on things, but was made to feel that the watchtower established many key beliefs that are required for witnesses in good standing.

Kurt - in addressing your belief that you have no right to tell someone else they shouldn't have a gun because you don't know their situation - there are a whole pack of politicians and hosts like Jones who are rabid pro-gun, the more the better - these same people hide behind their interpretation of the 2nd ammendment by claiming having 50 guns as a 'right' then are very quick to foist their belief about abortion on the rest of the population. They believe there should be laws telling you what you can do with your body or your life - but don't want any laws when it comes to them carrying a weapon. They see your stance on abortion as no right to take a life but their own use of a gun as a necessary tool to take a life.
Exactly. Those are the extremes that drive the discussion. With abortion, the extremes are the never have an abortion, no way no how, and the abortion on demand, up until it is sliding down the birth canal and even then bust its brains on the way out, and by the way you are expected to pay for it whether you like it or not. There is a middle ground that balances the circumstances of a womans health and well being, fetal development and all the other factors. Middle ground people are boring and don't make for good sound bites. Of course, all that is good fodder for another thread.
Just as I have no right to tell someone how they can protect themselves from threats in their environment, I have no right to tell a woman she must produce a baby she does not want to have. See? I'm consistent with this pro choice thing.
