Three Comments & An Ass-Chewing

so, normally if i go to a meeting i sit and don't say a word through the entire ordeal.

however today i just could not keep my big mouth shut.. it was funny that i even got called on....three times none-the-less.

of course 99% of the sheeple just sat with blank looks on their mugs this morning.

I really don't think anyone in my congregation had a clue what was going on.

I usually just zone out anyway during the WT study, but this one was a doozy.

Almost everyone seemed to be zoning out and the conductor was desperate for comments

(most of which were read straight from the WT anyway.)

I almost felt a collective sigh of relief when it was over.

Who writes this stuff? Are they on something?

Prepare for meetings??

do you prepare for meetings?

if i go i spend a few minutes underlinging my books/watchtower.. i have noticed that those who do the micks especially notice when your stuff is not underlined, and comments are made after the meeting, not so gentle hints, about study and preperation!

in other words i am being told off, its usually the ones who are highly critical of everything i do, sometimes their whole family seems to be straining to see if my stuff is underlined, i know this because i heard the daughter to family wisper her watchtower is not underlined!.

I sometimes see that some have highlighted the WHOLE paragraph.

Personally I prefer the cloze type method.

I highlight every 7th ( seven being representative of sacredness) line.

That way you are bound to hit on some of the right answers.

Also it looks kind of neat and doesn't really take up much time.

apropo of nothing, i just wanted to share some thoughts.

i have started reading and posting here recently.

i have previously mentioned that i am an active jw, an elder who conducts the wt study.

I am getting perilously close to the point of resigning as an elder as it is all getting a bit too much.

I can certainly feel for you in this situation.

I also, some time ago, was an Elder and had got caught up in the "company man" spirit.

Fortunately, I came across this forum and was brought to my senses. I stepped down as an Elder

giving reasons such as pressure, to spend more time with the family etc which was in itself not false

but not really the main reason. I had began to hate myself for the way I was feeling " superior" as an Elder and that

I had pushed aside the " humaness" that should have been in my life. Replaced with putting emphasis

on hours in the field service,meeting attendance, completing assignments,encouragement to pioneer, etc etc.

But when I was not an elder I realised that credibilty as a witness also suffers.

How some ( not all) reacted as if I had rejected a privilege from Jehovah and that I should have stayed on

as an Elder. My goal was to try to reach others to help them understand TTATT but I had no credibilty.

So I put some effort into trying to show I was a "spiritual" man and finally I was appointed as a MS.

From that point things were much better. I had the credibilty that comes with the appointment and I am able to

speak to others about some of the shaky teachings ( ex: overlapping generations) and some actually listen, as well

as the fact I didn't have to attend all the "brainwashing" Elders schools and Elders meetings.

So I would consider carefully whether you should step down. I know how you feel ( as much as anyone can do that)

and I know that it is really difficult to carry out assignments when we know what we know. ( I conducted the WT too)

But I wanted to reach out to others and help them to realise that there are other ways to please Jehovah and serve him without

having to follow the GB's rules and regulation to the "T".

As a MS I can do that. ( Of course this has to be done carefully) but I now feel that I can be of help in the congrgation and

especially when others express doubts or complain I am ready to show that I understand how they feel rather than jumping

on them with WT quotes as I used to.

Just some thoughts that might help

Thanks for all the "bird" replies.

I think it's now time to branch out onto another topic.

Maybe the society will have more articles in the future

explaining how the birds will devour the corpses and other gory details

in full colour.

Proper grammar and "This Generation"

i was never good at spelling and probably worse at grammar.

so if jesus really ment that the phrase "this generation" was an over lapping of generations then what would of been the proper way of saying it, if at all????

We understand that in mentioning “this generation,” Jesus was referring to two groups of anointed Christians. The first group was on hand in 1914, and they readily discerned the sign of Christ’s presence in that year. Those who made up this group were not merely alive in 1914, but they were spirit-anointed as sons of God in or before that year.—Rom. 8:14-17.

16 The second group included in “this generation” are anointed contemporaries of the first group. They were not simply alive during the lifetime of those in the first group, but they were anointed with holy spirit during the time that those of the first group were still on earth. Thus, not every anointed person today is included in “this generation” of whom Jesus spoke. Today, those in this second group are themselves advancing in years. I think that is a fowl thing to say.

It must surely sow seeds of doubt in many.

Looks like the WTS is winging it as far as Bible prohecy is concerned.

But I guess I shouldn't get into a flap about it.
