  guess the overlapping generation concept is difficult for most to comprehend.

  david spane does his best to explain it again.

  the cutoff date for this generation has now moved to 1992 (was once 1935), the year that fred franz died.

  the new august study watchtower just posted on jw.org is all about how long it may be until the end.

  whole article on that topic..

  but it never once mentions the overlapping generation..

  I have posted this before but I still feel the same, that

  I have basically lived a lie all my life.

  A Terrible Lie

  When I was a kid, it was all very clear

  Armageddon is soon, the end so near.

  You will not grow old, nor will you die,

  Was it all a terrible lie?

  You don't need a good job nor a career

  Just preach preach preach and pioneer,

  No marriage, no job, and no kids

  These were the words by which I lived

  Just take the message from door to door

  It doesn't matter if you're really poor

  Just take the message, it's what matters

  Don't worry if your life is in tatters.

  The Governing Body,they know best.

  They work hard and never rest.

  They tell us the truth, it's straight from Jehovah

  That went through my mind, over and over.

  Time has passed, and now I'm old

  But I did as I was told.

  Now I am poor and have much grey hair

  But no money, no pension, is it fair?

  What do I do now? I am so confused

  My faith is weak and I have no clues.

  I still take the message from door to door

  But now I wonder, what 's it all for?

  When I was a kid it was all very clear

  Still waiting ... since 1975 !

  what have i done with my life since 1975?

  became a jw in the late 1960s ... looked forward to 1975 as early as 1968 ... so, out of a sense of duty and spirit inspired organizational hounding ... when 1974 arrived, i sold the house, sold the car, sold the wife and kids ... then moved to where the great are needed ... 1975 came and went ... .

  so did ... 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 walk away from the organization ... 1993, 1994 then it was 80 years of a special mighty generation since 1914 ... finally, 20 years later it was 1995 when i was forcibly disassociated by wts legal department ... 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 ... yikes!

  now I'm old and my money's spent

  But we are told from day to day

  Never let your hand droop down
  you might make Jehovah frown

  We live in the last days, or so we are told
  preach with zeal, be bold bold bold!

  Keep on preaching with all your might
  find those sheep, keep on all night

  Stand next to the cart in the middle of town
  even when the sun bears down

  Don't worry if you are getting sick
  do 15 mins and report it quick

  Give us your money, donate it all
  when you go to the Kingdom Hall

  Make a comment with all your heart
  read from the paragraph, if you are smart

  Conduct your Family Worship night
  and don't forget to do it right

  at least three hours or more is best
  and you must feel guilty if you rest

  And personal study it's a must
  to fight off that spiritual rust

  If that's not enough, then start a study
  don't worry if the doctrines are muddy

  Like 1914 and the generation "truths"
  to show that witnesses are Bible sleuths

  40 years on from '75
  how much longer can I survive?

  i'm new here and not sure where to post.

  so, i'm 21 years old and currently a baptized witness, however, i'm slowly making my mind up to leave and here's why.. first, there are certain things that make no sense to me in the organization.

  Explanation > give somebody the bird (American & Australian very informal)

  Talking about the internet.

  One elder encouraging the "non use" of the internet

  said a while ago "actually it should be called Satans net. "

  Lots of head nodding..

  Wonder what they think of that comment now, when you can see JW.ORG plastered

  over everything that comes out of that "lets take over the world( or peoples lives) by using the internet "

  organisation.

  How many use iPads or tablets in your cong?

  a question for those that still attend meetings.... how many use tablets or ipads in your hall?.

  i did roving microphones this week, and i counted 43 people (variety of ages) out of an audience of 98!.

  just curious....

  I was at an assembly recently and just to ward off the boredom I watched how those with tablets were

  using ( or trying to use them).

  Seriously most did not have a clue and it took them ages to find a scripture.

  Also some were taking notes by typing and they looked like some kind of strange praying mantis

  trying to find the right keys to press.

  I wonder how much of the talk actually went into their brains as it seems most were lost just trying to figure out

  how to use the tablet. Multitasking was not prevelent among those listening.

  But thanks to the Governing Body's push to use them, I can use mine in the meeting and it sure helps to pass the time.

  All we need now is a directive to "skype" meeting talks to everyone so we don't even need to attend the meeting in person.

  Don't say it won't happen......
