  How does one become a JW???

  every source i've looked at is very vague and my witness friends just keep encouraging me to stop asking questions and come to meetings.

  my sense is, since i disagree so much with jw doctrine and the way it is presented in awake and especially watchtower that i'd never make it as a jw.

  still i am curious what the process is and what "tests" if any one must pass.. any info will be much appreciated.. thanks,.

  Ultimately, two things:

  · Relentlessly prove that you’re an exclusive consumer of WTBTS publications, for either yourself and for others.

  · Indirectly and in many different degrees based on ones abilities, encourage or motivate others to eventually or continue to be consumers of WTBTS publications, exclusively.

  Although there are many examples of experiencing both positive and negative personal occurrences once associated with the WTBTS, you will not be fully accepted until the organization is secure in the knowledge that your loyalty to the organization can be quantified by carrying out the above two agendas during your tenure as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

  Anything else while in association with the WTBTS is fluff.

  Where do you go to die?

  for the majority of humans, certain events are surrounded by tradition and ritual.

  marriage, the birth of children, entrance into adulthood, and death are all life-events which will be marked by most with a form of religious ceremony.

  for the few who have left off affiliation with a religious organization, these events are marked differently - more by tradition than by mystic ritual.

In fact, I got answers to questions you have never even thought of. … Just because I choose not to answer a baited or moronic question doesn't mean I don't know the answer. Jesus often refused to answer foolish questions. But, certainly his words apply especially to apostates when he said: "By hearing you will hear but by no means get the sense of it." Because in your presumption you imagine that you know the Bible, you pretty much validat (sic) Jesus' words... / You Know

  Whenever YK posts, am I the only one that gets the distinct feeling that I’m watching the demented, tactical reverse logic altercation that takes place between Jack Crabb the civilian Scout (Dustin Hoffman) and General George Custer (Richard Mulligan) just prior to the Battle of Little Big Horn in the movie, "Little Big Man"?

  Brain Dead

  just like to comment on the brain deadening effect of the jw way of life.

  it's bizarre how completely oblivious they are to major issues such as doctrinal changes !

  it's like they just calmly accept anything the org says without engaging their thought processes.. the 'generation' change was pretty amazing and would affect their door-to-door message in a big way yet it seemed to be met with a collective shrug.. i can remember triumphantly waving matt24:34 in many an impatient householders face as conclusive proof the end was nigh.. even more baffling is the fact that if i had been a bit of a swat and decided the society had got it wrong and the generation referred to the wicked generation rather than a generation of people alive in 1914 who would witness the end i would probably have been in big trouble and labelled 'apostate'.. it's as if the worldwide congregation is in a trance.

  I can remember triumphantly waving Matt24:34 in many an impatient householders face as conclusive proof the End was nigh.

  Just remember Free, you were in as much of a trance waving ‘conclusive proof’ the end is nigh, as Jehovah’s Witnesses are now still in a trance rejecting it while replacing it with dogma even more ambiguous.

  Dogma may come and go but the thought process or lack of it stays the same or in other words, the changes you pointed out are not as amazing as you’d think for those still in WatchtowerLand.

  Wasa, as a long shot alternative, try and find out if there’s a hospice Society in your “area” if you haven’t already done so.

  Although hospice deals mostly with the terminally ill and the associated familial grieving I believe that organization could be a good resource finding the answers your looking for.

  Forget about checking with the WTBTS, they’ll probably kick your butt out through the “revolving” door. (As if you didn't know).

  Regardless, try telling the above to your neighborhood Kalashnikov toting followers of Jehad or one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Both groups demonstrate a desire for similar spiritual ends one is simply more pro-active.

  Depending on the 'eye' of the beholder, ‘true’ religion does exist.

  However 'truth’ by definition, in this case is possibly inappropriate.

  I was allergic to the Watchtower

  as a boy, i would suffer severe attacks of sneezing, itchy eyes, and post nasal drip when i would read the watchtower.

  it was especially noticable during our family watchtower study.

  i began to think it was the paper its printed on.

  Prof, in your youth you may have had a legitimate allergic reaction to the Watchtower and Awake! Mags , because, "...In the past, papers have been bleached using hypochlorite(sic), chlorodioxide or chlorine gas in order to meet the demand for clean, white and biologically pure paper for writing grades and food and medical packaging. This process produces minute amounts of hydrocarbons and dioxins and has therefore led to the development of 'oxygen bleaching' techniques which are free of chlorine containing compounds.”

  It is most likely the WTBTS is now buying their paper from suppliers using recently developed ‘oxygen bleaching’ techniques.

  The questions are:

  How long have billions of previous Watchtower and Awake! issues been printed on hypo chlorite, chlorodioxide or chlorine gas produced paper?

  How much of a hand has Jehovah’s “esteemed” corporation, along with all of us as the WTBTS "delivery system", had in “ruining the earth” by their manufacturing processes and "delivery system" for over a hundred years?

  And as far as "ruining the earth" and Armageddon being "just around the corner", why should the WTBTS care for other than legal reasons?

  What makes us religious?

  i remember when i was a little boy i always seemed to feel so close to god.

  my family was not and still isn't very religious, so why did i turn out to be that way at such a young age?

  What makes us religious?

  Some feel Jumping off of a very high bridge with one end of a "rubber band" wrapped around your ankles.

  What actually makes us religious is we'll do anything so we don't have to face jumping off that bridge.
