  i thought i'd pose a question especially (but not exclusively) for the girls regarding sexual harassment.

  what would you deem as unfitting behaviour?.

  is it appropriate for a guy to ask if you are wearing any panties?

  I am a little concerned that we're all still personalising it a little much, though

  If a person in a group is rude, obnoxious, doesnt stop sexual advances when asked to, and exhibits other behaviors suggesting severe anger management issues and possibly severe mental illness would you not tell your friends so they can know NOT to invite this person over for coffee? Or would you ONLY tell your friends and not the others in the group? I mean not that anyone has an obligation to share this info but it just seems like it would be a good thing for others to know especially with all the internet related crimes. I know that what happens at fests and parties should stay there but I would think in the case of a person going beyond what is even a little acceptable then an exception should be made.

  Is it appropriate for a guy to ask if you are wearing any panties? Are there any circumstances, for a stranger, where this would be appropriate?

  If I was at a wild party and a drunk guy asked me if I was wearing panties I probably would not have too much of a problem with that..you kinda expect to be hit on if you go to a wild party....especially if you are looking hot. Of course its inappropriate and rude but at a wild party I expect to see some rude inappropriate behavior.

  But if I made it clear that it was none of his business and that I didnt want to discuss it with him and he continued I think thats where a joke becomes harrassment...when the person does not stop when asked or when it is clear that the attention is unwanted. In the workplace that is a crime but I dont know if its a crime here at a party or outside of a place of employment. But I'm sure once they touch me or try to lift my skirt or use a camera to see up my skirt then it becomes a crime and I would insist that if the person didnt leave the party I would call the cops.

  It shoudnt matter the gender of the victim or the gender of the harrasser. When asked repeatedly to stop, they should stop or be asked to leave especially if this occurred in someones home. Its a shame that some people are more tolerant of and sympathetic towards a woman who commits a crime than a man. I think if a guy went that far with harrassement in someones home probably everyone would have unanimously agreed to call the cops or throw his ass out physically without caring what kind of person problems or marital problems he might be going through or what kind of abuse he might have endured in his life. It shouldnt have been allowed to escalate that far just because the gender roles were reversed.

  Ross, as hot a specimen as you are in a kilt, you certainly didnt deserve to be treated without respect like that. Even though it is a curious thing to see a man in a kilt in this country outside of halloween, it doesnt give one the right to go on and on when asked to stop.

  A "Sobering" idea for New Years: to benefit Asian Tsunami Victims/Survivors

  i just had a rare moment of clarity and i wanted to share this idea with you all.

  i plan to pass it along to everyone i know, hoping that it might, just might, catch on.

  i am proposing a totally painless way for people to reach into their hearts, and wallets, to help those so desperate for aid following this weekend's tragedy in asia.

  You sound slightly offended by my response. Sorry if that is the case, it wasnt my intent. Of course it was worth it to express your feelings and try to do something to help. My son collected 56 dollars from my family members (mostly jw lol) to help a little boy he saw on the news who made it through the disaster but his mother has not been found. Realistically, it will do nothing... but it doesnt take away from the heartfelt sentiment behind the gesture. I didnt mean to offend you.

  Not to sound like a downer, but I dont think many will go for the idea of not drinking champagne on new years. It is as much as a tradition as christmas and people would never go for the idea of donating all of their xmas gift money to a charitable cause either....and a lot of people just throw money away at xmas time. Just isnt going to happen unfortunately. Besides liquor store owners and bar owners rely on new years along with a couple of other holidays to keep their businesses in the black and successful.
  

  Its hard to sit back and watch the horror happening in Asia and not be able to do much about it but I think realistically all we can do is let our countries send our money and supplies and aid workers to help those poor people. I wish there was more that we could do.

  Frankly, I think we would be much more successful if we put out a public appeal to the 269 billionaires living in America (not to mention the other hundred and something living around the world) to donate just a million dollars of their fortune to help those people. With the stroke of a pen half a billion dollars could be on its way. I really dont understand the rich at all.

  Reggie White died :(

  dead at the age of 43. a sad day indeed.

  i had the pleasure of working with reggie and his wife sara on several community projects when they lived in green bay and he was an awesome human being.

  For your information Mungo..

  Reggie White was so popular a PERSON not just because he was the greatest defensive player in history. If you actually read any of the articles or watched any of the broadcasts about his life, you would know that it was the person he was OFF the field when the cameras were not rolling that made him special to a lot of people. That is when he was in the community helping kids or donating his time and money in so many ways.

  Reggie White was a special person...period. Anyone who KNOWs anything about sports or life or ANYTHING who met Reggie would have agreed. There are not many people alive who can say that...and now there is one less. Even if you take away his football accomplishments Reggie would have been someone worth honoring.

  What is a disfellowshipping offense?

  i had a brief discussion with my wife about the practice of shunning and i asked her if the act of associating with a df'ed or "apostate" individual would get someone disfellowshipped.

  she denied that it would, saying that it was not included among the specific "disfellowshipping offenses" listed in the bible.

  yet my understanding is that there are many things that can get a jw disfellowshipped which aren't among the immoral practices specifically listed by paul in that context.

  I think it also varies from congregation to congregation depending on the group of 'elders'. And things have tightened up a lot more in the past few years regarding associating with df'd ones.
