Even just the idea of reading the bible bores me to tears now. I tried to read parts of it w/ a more open mind since I left but after twenty some years of reading it I found that I couldnt even read one chapter w/o being bored to tears and just not giving a damn about what it was supposed to mean. I'm agnostic for the most part but I figure if there is a God and he wants to tell me somethin he'll have to write it in a modern day, interesting format.

Do you find the bible boring?
by ChrisVance ini was raised as a dub, and i suppose when i was quite young i found some of the bible stories interesting.
however, the older i got the more boring the bible seemed.
obviously, it had a lot to do with repetition.

From a true American patriot
by Simon inpeople have made claims that i am anti-american for expressing dissatisfaction about american foreign policy or dismay at the ills of american socity.. to be honest, i do not think i am anti-american.
i think i am more pro american than many of the people in the country who like to wave flags and buy t-shirts but who seem happy to turn a blind eye when things are not right and happy to see it's ideals sold to the highest bidder.
imo the true patriots are those who are willing to stand up and take the flak for saying "this isn't good enough, we demand better".

So Badger. What would constant criticism of a forum owner by someone who does nothing to help run the site make someone?
Reminds me of my father who used to believe that his kids had no right to an opinion on anything because they didnt 'pay the bills'.
I think that everyone here, especially those who have taken the time to post DO help run the site just by their being here. A message board is nothing without messages.

You have to be careful listening to vocal people with an axe to grinde and base your opinion on what I actually say and not what I'm alleged to have said. What matters is the reasons I give for saying something, not the reaon that someone else may want to portray.
That statement would make a lot more sense if you didnt delete all your posts that people criticize.

Many people, like myself are not at all happy with the state of affairs in America. We don't pretend everything is hunky-dorey and that there is no room for improvement. We do speak out for change and for improvements. We didn't vote for the babbling bafoon in office. Not everyone in this country is a blind fool as has been implied by your past comments (which are always conveniently deleted when they were legitimately criticized). Not everyone who finds your sometimes crude statements about our country offensive are offended because we are content to wave flags and say "were the best" regardless of whats going on around us.Unfortunately yes there are some people like that, most of them right now seem to have crawled back under their rocks for the time being. But you seem to put that label on ANYone who feels your remarks are out of line and poorly timed.
I am not offended by your remarks because I am blind to the legitimacy of some of the problems you bring up, I am offended by them because without compassion or respect for the people who ARE totally frustrated with our government and who DO speak out about it, you take every opportunity to stand on the outside and criticize the entire country and its people...even going so far as to say things like 'thank god i'm not american' or 'no wonder the jw's cult took root in america'. Those comments and others like them which you have made do not criticize or degrade the American government which is failing, they degrade me as a human being and as an American citizen and that is why I take offense to you. It has nothing to do with my supporting the travesty that is the government at this time.
Constantly and whenever we are in a state of emergency or some other crisis is going on you take the opportunity to hand out the criticism without prefacing your remarks to make it clear specifically which people in the country you are criticizing.
Is that how you are as a human being? If your kid sneaks into an off limits part of the house and gets into something he isnt supposed to and cuts or stabs himself, do you take that opportunity, while he lay crying and bleeding on the floor to berate him for it being his own fault or do you rush to him to see what you can do to help him.
And another thing..If someone makes a legitamate statement about anything over and over and over again you get to the point where you dont even want to hear what they have to say regardless of how legit. You just want them to shut the hell up.
Unfortunately sometimes no one can make someone shut the hell up because that person runs the company, or the country or the message board.

If you are truly ready and committed to making a change in the way you think about yourself and ready to make the commitment to getting over problems with depression and anxiety, I highly suggest picking up Lucinda Bassetts program "Attacking Anxiety and Depression" and finding a local therapist-led support group to go through the program with. Its well worth the $400 dollar and 16 week investment. You'll come out of the program with a whole new self image.
good luck

How can victims of Katrina possibly pay their mortgages?
by truthseeker ini was thinking, how can victims of hurricane katrina possible pay for their mortgage, car loans and credit cards when they have nothing, no job, no home, no where to go, and only the clothes on their back?.
i mean, will insurance really pay for their destroyed home?
did their car insurance have a flood policy?.

The bank I work for has suspended all mortgage payments for their customers for the next 90 days (for now). Also they have have suspended late payments and finance charges on their credit cards for those customers in that area. I'm sure many of the other banks are doing the same thing. I'm sure that before the 90 days is up they will have figured out what the plan is from there. I dont think the government will leave those people hanging after they have screwed up as bad as they have in all this. -

Barbara Bush: Hurricane victims better off, were "underpriviledged anyway"

Andi..Point taken. It is hard not to get too angry and negative sometimes. But for every person who focuses on the negative a little too much there are a dozen people who have their heads up their asses and act like everything is hunky dorey. For every one person who speaks out and insists on change there are a dozen who treat that person as though they are 'complainers' or 'troublemakers'. Thus the condition the country and world are in today. :(

I'm sorry but I think the comparison you are trying to draw are as different as night and day. There is no comparing the every day faux pas and that we all make in our every day lives and speech to a nationally broadcast radio interview with the former first lady of the country and mother of the current president. However, lets say you can compare the two and as you say Barbara Bush just has no clue about what life is like without the privilege of money and power and having your every want fullfilled thus she is clueless that her comment might be hurtful to anyone who doesnt have a life of privilege. Maybe she is clueless that its just unethical to imply that the horrid conditions, having to spend night after night sleeping on a cot in a stadium filled with thousands of other people, is not so bad to people who are underprivileged. Lets say she doesnt know any better because all she has ever known is privilege...its not her fault.
One question.. If one of those people who have always been underprivileged and were born into a poor ghetto life and know no other way but violence and crime commits an act of violence, is that behavior excused or do they still have to answer for it just like anyone else? Its not their fault after all.
They may have been born into that lifestyle but we STILL expect them to know better than to act in a violent criminal way. Its called personal responsibility as someone mentioned. Does Barbara not have the same responsibility to KNOW better? She has MORE responsibility!

There were lots of people that were affected by the hurricane Charlie in my area, my family and I being some of them.
When it was all said and done and my family and I received all the insurance, local, and federal help available, we were lleft able to remodel our homes much better than if the disaster hadn't happened to us at all. I know plenty of people that ended up with much better homes and in better economical standing than prior to Charlie.
How many of your relatives DIED in Hurricane Charlie? How many of your children died? Did your parents die? Your siblings? Cousins? Best friend since kindergarten? If you had lost several members of your family would you still be saying 9 days after it happened that you were better off having had the hurricane since at least you got to a new place to live and some special financial help?
Would you appreciate someone who claims to have come to comfort you and help you basically saying 'well I know your relatives are floating around in the mud and that you cant find your infant daughter or your mother but..well you were underprivleged anyway so its not so bad since you get to stay in the astrodome on a cot and move to texas..'
For the former first lady to make a comment like that at this point and time while those peoples relatives have yet to be pulled from the water is despicable. She should be offering them therapy to get over the horror that they have experienced in losing their family members so tragically not telling them to focus on the new apartment in Texas or the free food they will get for the next few months.

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas.
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this - this is working very well for them."
Shes old?? Thats the excuse for a former first lady to be so ignorant that she doesnt know better than to make comments like this about people whose dead loved ones are currently floating around the streets or buried beneath the rubble of what used to be thier home?
Are the people defending these comments kidding? Would these people would have chosen to trade off the lives of members of their families and all of their irreplaceable belongings like historical family pictures or gifts just so they can get the 'freebies' that they might get like a scholarship or something???
Do you really think that people who are underpriviledged are THAT different from you? That they would do anything for a handout or freebie? Well apparently Mrs Bush thinks so. Hell if your underprivileged these kind of disasters are not so bad since you might get somethin out of it that you wouldnt have had before right? Geezus what an idiot. I dont care how old she is I wish I could punch her lights out.
No Barbara, you moron, its not 'working very well for them' in Houston. They are on TV begging for anyone who has seen their babies or their mothers to call them and let them know. Their baby and mother are probably dead. No they dont give a shit about getting the 'priviledge' to move to Houston you idiot..they want to go back to their homes with all of their family alive and well and for this nightmare not to have happened.
Geezus, how people could have voted into office someone with this kind of ignorant attitude, who isnt even aware that they are a moron is beyond me. Like mother like son.
