there seem to a commonality around here about active jw parents shunning us.. my question is: if your parents weren't a jw, do you think they would be normal, act kindly, be a real parent to you?
or would they still be cold and callused towards you, controlling, etc.
my thought is this, so many times i used to think i wish my mom wasn't a jw because then i thought she would be this wonderful caring mother that i could go to lunch with, share shopping days with, recipes, and we'd be close.
I definately think my mother would be a much more loving and expressive person if she was not in the cult. Shes a good person and is held back from being herself because of her religion and controlling husband.
My father, I think would be very much the same person regardless of being a jw. I think he would still be a religious person and a controlling person and would probably be alone or several times divorced cause if a woman didnt have to put up with his crap I doubt anyone would.

however, i have a brother who is a jw and there is a serious problem that he is struggling with, which pertains to his horrible marriage, abusive wife, divorce and being "kicked out" of jw as a member... or whatever jw's call it.
he has been married to a woman for 22 years.

So if you called OJ and he tells you over the phone he didnt kill Nicole and Ron, I suppose that would be enough proof for you. I never asked the man to prove anything in the first place, he went on that rampage all on his own. I still have no idea why someone would care so desperately if a bunch of internet strangers thought he might be saying something untrue. And actually, I did apologize...twice. Obviously there is mental illness involved and I qualified my remarks accordingly as soon as that became apparent. The man also got plenty of practical, useful advice from me as well as others, which he refused to even acknowledge unless someone called him directly by phone. I never accused this man of being Corvin..simply of being stupid. If the word 'stupid' strikes some sort of taboo cord with you, I apologize. I'm sure if I had said that the story involved a lot of 'obtuseness' and that the people involved should get profession assistance because they seemed to be 'chronically making poor decisions or careless mistakes', I'm sure you wouldnt be having such a problem with it...even though it means exactly what I did say. The problem you have with me is yours and yours alone. I am a direct person yet you should know if you have been around reading my posts as long as you claim, that I am also nothing if not honest. And if you have indeed been reading my posts long enough to form a personal opinion, you would also know that I am always willing to admit when I am wrong and apologize. I've done it a dozen times at least on these boards...conveniently you seem to have missed those. I also gave the man practical advice on the situation with his brother..which you conveniently didnt see. I never accused the person of being Corvin or anyone else. I simply pointed out the how incredibly stupid it is to post ones name, address and phone number on an internet message board, how stupid it is to sit inside of a strangers car and not realize that it isnt your vehicle and then blame someone else, among other acts of stupidity listed in the story. Had I been proven to be incorrect in stating that these things are stupid I would already have apologized. However 'Dave" saying that he talked to the person on the phone does nothing in the way of making my statements false. Was the word "stupid" a bit harsh? Perhaps. But had I been talking to someone who was being respectful and articulate I would not have used it. I suppose you have never been responsible for putting yourself in an abusive situation? How long were you a JW for? Are you as hard on yourself for doing so?
You assume correctly that I have never been responsible for putting myself in an abusive situation. My being a jw was not by my doing but leaving was. My experience has nothing to do with anything though.
Your opinion of me means nothing to me since you base it purely on a situation which you really know nothing about.
If you think me calling some one who does something stupid stupid makes me the most insensitive person on this board then thats based on your ignorance of the situation since youve only been here a couple months.

Why was I rude? Because I pointed out several examples of chronic stupidity based on the assumption that the things he had posted were true? Are you saying that someone who does not recognize the interior of their own car is not stupid? Or someone who allows themselves to be publically abused for 22 years is not stupid? Or someone who posts their name and phone number and address on an internet message board is not stupid? They are by definition the epitomy of stupid..as possibly are you if you believe this garbage.

i suggest you have your brother write to the watchtower organization directly for their advice on what he should do about his situation. he should be sure to include police reports, and recordings of her behavior. i'm sure they will advise him in the best course of action.

i remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.
i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.
now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

Did the elders DF'd them or make some sort of announcement for the JW's not to attend the person's funeral?
yea they booted me even after i broke down in a jc meeting and told them i was suicidal because of being unable to please jehober. i told them i couldnt take it anymore and refused to meet with them anymore after the second time, they took it as a lack of repentance i guess. i never set foot in a kh again since that jc meeting.
Or did the elders refuse to give a funeral for the deceased JW?fortunately, i was unsuccessful! for once i'm glad i failed at something!!

Mulan, just today I was thinking that about this girl at work when she was going on and on complaining about something. I dont think she could make it through an hour without complaining about something.
It was funny the other day she had a really stressful day at work and of course she complained all day long about how stressed she was. Then the next day was much calmer and better but instead of enjoying it, when someone asked 'how are you?' she would not say 'i'm great today', instead she would go on and on about how bad the previous day was. Its like no matter how good things are she always sees things negatively and will find the dark cloud no matter where its hiding.
Its a shame so many people lose out on their precious present moment because they worry so much and let themselves get so stressed out about holidays and other things.
I still dont get it. If I had a family it would be different.
