The article said he was an optimist. I think optimism increases longevity.

Are You Afraid To Express Your Opinion???
by minimus indo you feel intimidated or uncomfortable when giving your opinion?
do you shy away from expressing yourself if you believe that the majority will disagree??
?
-
Flowerpetal
Would you be hesitant to express a differing opinion from the majority?
No because I am also contrary--as my parents used to call me...so I would let my contrariness show!

I'm not afraid to express my opinion, but I don't always express it in situations. I'm more of a listener, and when I'm in a group, I hear what they have to say, and if I agree, add what they said to my opinion. Or I'll ask a question to make them further clarify their stance. Then maybe at a later time, which I have more information, I'll express myself. In a one on one situation with a person, I'll express more.

Did You Think "Jehovah" Was Responsible For Everything Good In Your Life?
by minimus ini've heard all my life, that anytime something good happened, we should thank jehovah for doing it.
if something bad happened, like being attacked by the "demons", it was because a person didn't have the complete "suit of armor" from god.
i know many of the "friends" that credit jehovah god for giving them a sunny morning, a pay raise at work or an end to their cough and cold.....were you one of those that believed jehovah was behind everything that happened in your life?

When I was a young adult, I believed he was responsible for the big good things. I knew he didn't control every moment of your life though. I remember a sister in my cong then who thought that if she got tongue-tied at the door, it meant that Jehovah was blocking her speech because he thought she wasn't adequate enough to talk to the householder, and Jehovah had her companion take over.
As I got older though, I realized, like a lot who have already posted, that good and bad happens to good people and bad. And if someone felt Jehovah was blessing them with a good job, etc. etc., then what about the other person in the cong. who was still suffering with some problem that wasn't being resolved? I began to see that consequences happen to people because of the decisions they make. And it happens to JWs just as much as non-jws.

Still, this is a good thread!
I am reading these stories and recall that someone I knew who had been 'd'fd for many years before she came back, was told by one of the elders at the time, not to even bother to pray because Jehovah wasn't going to hear her prayers! I thought, "How arrogant, and cruel that a man would say something like that!"
Unbeliever, I hope your friend is OK. I bet that elder was stunned!
I'm just curious and please nobody get offended by my question: How many of you turned yourselves in?

current JW's, asking a question...
by jwbot inare there any current jehovahs witnesses here?.

Joker, that may be easier said than done. At any rate, I'm going to take to heart JT's advice. It bears repeating:
for those of you who are still jw, take your time, don't feel a need to rush one way or the other- it is a "Process"
the most important one is called Confirmation, as has been pointed out here over and over almost every jw has FORBIDDEN QUESTIONS and the way the org is structured one is made to push those questions into the back ground- as i used to tell folks
if you spend more time in service, meeetings and reading the publicastion you will not have time for such FOOLISH QUESTIONS - of course that never really addressed the quetion, merely pushed it into the background
so for many coming here merely CONFIRMS what many have had as concerns for YEARS-
ONCE the confirmation takes place then it is a matter of deciding do i want to continue being involved with something that consumes up my entire life where all my hopes and dreams and goals have to be put on the backburner for what i know now will never take place
i think of all the dr and lawyers and scienctist, actors, musican, folks who would play in orchestras, etc who will NEVER COME OUT OF THE JW due to believing that to pursue such things NOW is wrong, but wait till the new order then you can study about the different birds and so forth
i think of all of us here many who have literally PUT OUT LIVES ON HOLD waiting for a new system that was promised over 130yrs ago-
so for folks who come here and get the confirmation they then have to make a choice and it takes time
some leave right away for me it took 3 yrs - in 1995 with the generation change i started heading out the door- in 98 i turned in my Flock book and my wife and i have never crossed the sill of a Hall since
we started new careers, moved, built a home and now back in college to get the degrees we gave up to SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM - pio/bethel
for some they will not be able to move or go back to collge, but regardless the freedom of knowing that now my wife and YOU TOO can lay in the bed on Sunday Morning in your "Drawers" and read the Washington Post
man there is no greater freedom
