Be careful! Jeffrey Dahmer started out that way!

Hi James! At the present time, I don't have a Bible study but I do have a very good return visit. Since it took her 3 years to finally pick up a Bible and start reading it (not NWT either) I sure ain't going to push her to start associating. I have invited her to the KH, but she is afraid to come because she thinks somebody is going to ask her to testify. I told her we don't do that sort of thing, and when we discuss the WT, people who want to say something raise their hands. She reads the magazines regularly. I have given her the Greatest Man book and just last week gave her the Revelation book (funny you should mention that because she is reading the book of Revelation right now. And I can't wait till she gets to the chapters where the society applies things to themself. What will I say then? I have no idea.

[QUOTE]well flower you have indeed come to the right place
just think 25yrs ago you would not be caught dead dialogging with folls who are DF DA and called apostates
yet you and others feel right at home with such ones
man times have changed[QUOTE]
Yes they have changed James. I have been posting on another board for 4 years. At first I would not respond to those who came there who were Df'd. Da'd and especially those I considered apostate. But after listening to them, I realized that being apostate and or DA'd is leaving a church or organization, not God. My mom is an apostate from the Catholic church but she still hasn't left God. Maybe she perceives him in a different way (not as 3 persons in one godhead) but she hasn't left him.
i am a new to posting on this board though i have been actively reading your posts the past while and i thank some of you for the interesting viewpoints that you have verbalized and that i have enjoyed thinking on.
i am still an active jw, in fact an elder of 20 years standing hence my need to limit information about my personal circumstances.
i have served in a number of countries in europe as a pioneer and elder over the past three decades.
HI Hillary! Welcome!
And by your first post, I gather you are a man; not a lady.
I think being a Christian [bis/b] a struggle and that is what Jesus was talking about when he said the narrow gate would be cramped.
"a helping hand".
a young girl, dressed in her kingdom halls' best was running.
as fast as she could to the kingdom hall down the street.. as she ran, she prayed, "jehvoah , please don't let me be.
There was a girl in the cong I went to before I got married who was like you, Conflicted. She even felt that if someone turned her away at the door, she felt that the reason was Jehovah needed to teach her to be better in talking to people at the doors.
She also beleived the demons were plaguing her often. Every six months or so she would burn her clothes and buy more.
i'm taking a class in marketing.
one of the last chapters in.
the textbook discusses personal selling.
Teejay, I enjoyed your post.
How about this theory I have? We all know Judge Rutherford was an attorney. I believe it was he who started this turning in or reporting time thingy as far as preaching.
Well after watching many reruns of L.A. Law and the main concern of one of the partners, Douglas Brackman, was billable hours so the firm could continue to make money. He was always on the other lawyers to bill the hours they spent with their clients.
Now take that idea and apply it to JWs going out in service, talking to people and reporting the time they spent. Another form of billable hours, you tink mebbee?
while you may not agree with our view of the society, will you at least address this one issue>.
as we all know words have meaning and when used in the right way can be very powerful- yet if used in the wrong way they lose all of thier meaning.. here is my question -- for over 130yrs the guys in the writing and service dept starting with russell right down to today with gene smalley, sam buck, john wischuk and all the rest of the boys up at patterson have used the following words over and over and over.
1. very shortly.
Hi RVW. I hear you bro!
I know about people who have postponed things such as surgery because of the "soon" thing. Some don't see the need to buy life insurance. Hopefully that will change. There is an elder in my area who sells life insurance and is trying to educate some of the witnesses to buy it, if they don't have it already, at least out of consideration for their families. Some still tell him they don't see the need in it. I hope they will come to the realization that it is a necessity.
i was just wondering about most of you guys.
since you aren't jws anymore, what are your beliefs now?
have you rejected the bible as a whole?
Hi Jelly,
I agree with you about the gospels, and also the latter part of your post. How can we say absolutely that what was translated from another language is exactly what the Bible writer intended? And the fact that there are so many religions professing to be Christian, anybody can get the Bible to say almost anything.

To RVW,
Welcome, welcome! I am an active JW almost 42 years baptized. I guess you could say I am a 3rd generation (I hate that term) witness.
My hubby is about 38 or 39 yrs baptized.
Your post to waiting, I think, is what I have started to realize for a while. I also hope that with the old GB members dying off, there will be changes. My witness friend with whom I can share things like this with says it's like the org is wandering in the wilderness, like the ancient Israelites, until the older ones died off. With the deaths of some of the old GB members, maybe our trek in the wilderness is almost over.

Thank you RedhorseWoman for acknowledging at least, that I have personal experiences.
And yes, Devil'sAdvocate--you read correctly...there is no BOSS in my home. When my hubby was an elder, he didn't go around trying to suppress or oppress or repress other sisters in the cong. It is true that there are some ignorant men in positions of responsibility, and sooner or later, they might be on the receiving end of something very ugly caused by their attitudes and behaviors. I also agree with the rest of what you said.

My daughter went to college. She is 22 and single and not interested in getting married yet. She has been to Europe 3 times with friends.
My son is planning on college when he is done with high school.
If I wanted to attend a college, all I have to do is announce it to my family. My hubby would not feel the need to go tell the elders what I am doing. One time while my daughter was in college, she missed some meetings for a semester. (Min School and Serv Meeting) and one of the elders asked me where she was and I told him.
All he said was "that's not good...that's not good." I let it go because first of all, I didn't owe him an explanation and second, she was committed to this class already, and it was only a temporary missing of meetings--not like she was going to stop attending the meetings altogether.
