What is the ideal age?
by logansrun init's funny, my brother-in-law, a very myopic and strict jw, said something to me once that i still feel has a kernel of truth to it even though it came from a braindead idiot.
"brad, i hated my twenties.
life really begins at 30.

A Gem in the Awake
by glitter inthere's a great example of how ignorant jws are in the november 8th awake (oil: will it ever run out).. on the letters page: (the writer is from the ukraine, so i *hope* something's been lost in the translation... but why would they print it if it was?).
"i wish to express my appreciation for the article "young people ask... what's wrong with cheating?

Thank God for the Society's (HIS) publications! You see, if THEY point out to you that cheating is wrong, NOW, you can know it. Very soon, we can expect some articles on the reasons why true Christians should refrain from not wearing glasses when they should, finishing all your food on your plate and changing your underwear at least once a day......Thank God for the Society!
I remember my daughter telling me that one of the guys in the group she hung out with for a while, was always bringing up subjects you might find in an "Awake" article and asking if was for Christians;;such as "Butter---Is It For Christians?" He used to crack her up with some of the stuff he came up with.

Actually this one does apply. JWs are encouraged to go into court and swear on a NWT to tell the truth but they are also taught that Theocratic Warfare will allow them to lie to those who they deem not worth knowing the truth.
Most people would consider lying in a court of law after giving an oath to tell the truth as unethical
I've never had to go to court for anything, but you are saying a witness who has to go to court won't swear to tell the truth on anything but a NWT?

What Is Your Googilism?
by xjw_b12 ini discovered this site today, and had some fun with it typing in the real names, then the aliases of posters here.
e-man posted a similar thread a month or so ago, but this is a lot more fun, as long as your name or phrase is not too "exclusive"
have fun!

My Best Friends Still Love Me
by Piph ini had a talk with my best friend (who is still an active jw) the other day, and told her that i wasn't interested in remaining an active witness any more.
i knew she would accept my feelings, because she's a wonderful person and is actually very emotionally healthy, but was afraid because i didn't really know how tight a grip the mind control had on her, and didn't know if she would feel obligated to back off in our friendship any.
i was deeply afraid of that, because we're as close, if not closer than, sisters.. to my pleasant surprise, she not only totally accepted my feelings, but she already knew what i was going to say before i said it.

Hi Phiph!
Thanks for sharing your experience with your friends.
It's really too bad when the org. stresses so much on d'fing/DA think and not let people make decisions and freely expressing them, without feeling like they are going to lose their best friends and/or family. Even though I think your one friend associates not wanting to be a witness anymore with not wanting to have anything to do with Jehovah, at least she expressed where she's at right now to you and accecpts your decision without judgement. If the org. could set at atmosphere for people to feel free to do that, and being non-judgemental toward those who want to leave, that would be a big step in the right direction. Hope your parents will take it well too.

Is the Trinity that damn important?
by logansrun inasked my dad the other day, a man who da'd himself seven years ago yet, amazingly, still believes 99% of what the dubs teach just what makes him believe the dubs have the "truth.
" what were the first words out of his mouth?
"well, they don't believe in the trinity...." .

This is what I think is the most important thing:
Luke 18:8b "Nevertheless, when the Son of man arrives, will he really find the faith on the earth?" NWT
OR from the KJV: "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"
