allow me to explain.. of course you are a normal person with warts and flaws.
but you have a person (s) in your life, through work, church, or some other limited environment with whom you have complete control of their "diet" of information when it comes to you.
to put it another way, they only know you from what you 'feed' them.
Some people LIKE the taste of the kool-aid, drink down every drop, the whole kit and caboodle, without even considering how toxic it is.
I love this board and I am glad to have made true and lasting friendships here. I am very happy with the changes in my life even though that means I can't post here as much as I used to.
Being a true friend isn't about telling you how great you are or how wronged you were. A true friend helps you to see what lessons can be learned ABOUT YOURSELF so as to help you better your future.

For example: maybe you are having a feud with a third party and you tell your little rat how unfairly you are being treated and how long suffering you are. You keep your supporter up to date on all developments and soon they are ready to kill the other party for you! This sort of thing is common with marital problems.
It's too bad that these little rats (especially the ones that know both parties but have heard only one side) don't realize that we were in a cult because we were conditioned not to listen to the other side. It doesn't necessarily help someone to tell them what they want to hear. Sometimes people need to take responsibility for their own actions and a true friend would help them see that - not just be a "yes" man.

i recognized, when i first started searching the web, that there are tons of information regarding jehovah's witnesses.
most is negative toward the religion.. coming onto jwd/jwn gives one a different perspective.
you get to interact with those thinking about leaving, those who have already left and even some who never were in the cult but are fascinated by the experiences of those that were in the "truth".. when you are on this site, how does it affect you??
I feel like I am home when I am here. I feel like we are a functional-dysfunctional family of sorts. I feel like everyone gets it. Even the "crazy uncles" and "bitchy cousins" have a connection to my feelings of abandonment, disappointment and rage. Our stories and circumstances are different but the abusers are the same.
I love this place and it saved me.

i have been reading your posts the last couple of weeks and wanted to post and talk to all of you and at last i can.. first i am (or was)a unbaptised publisher but have jw daughter (really into it)and jw granddaughters and df son in law(for smoking).. i studied for 2 yrs and tried field service(hated hated hated it).anyway reading your posts helped me to make the decison that.
i just couldn't go on going to meetings even to be with my grandchildren(who i love dearly)and living a lie.

i loved research.
i used to pride myself in my knowledge of different watchtower society info, especially organization procedure.
so i always enjoyed digging into facts.
Oh yeah! I tried to make time to do a little extra research on the WT lesson every week (out of approved publications of course) so I could incorporate a few extra "gems" (lol) into my answers.
When I found the old JWD and other sites like Free Minds I went nuts with the research, printing and highlighting like a woman possessed. At the time it was my therapy, I had to prove to myself that Satan wasn't misleading me. I had to prove to myself that I had indeed found out the truth about the "truth".

We will have a fabulous salad as well as shrimp and salmon with a glass or two of wine. The dinner may change from year to year but we will definitely enjoy it together.
When I was growing up we were allowed to open one present on Xmas eve and my sweetie and I are going to do the same.
We will also be watching "A Christmas Story" which is one of my all time favorite movies, while sipping on egg nog spiked with rum.
Then we will cuddle in bed and listen for Santa! I can't wait.

I just saw them last week in D.C., they were phenomenal! We got VIP passes because our friend's dad grew up with Jeff the drummer. Jeff brought us signed programs which I thought was very nice. We were 10th row back, front and center.
The music is amazing but the LIGHTS are incredible. The lights are done by the same guys that do lights for Kiss and Motley Crue (sp?). It snowed on us and I felt like a little kid. It was an awesome experience.
Thank you Silence for the gift of their CD last year! I love these guys!
