Schnell's wife was an anointed missionary where I grew up and a friend of my parents. A more disagreable, bitter woman you will never meet...

Schnell and The Watchtowers everchanging "truth"
by brotherdan ini guess that's not the most interesting sounding topic, but i've been reading william schnells book "into the light of christianity" and came across something that i thought was totally profound.
"i now know that all cults...interpose an intermediary center for salvation.
in this way they sidetrack the true purpose of christianity, which is, to give the image and likeness of jesus christ full play for growth in the individual.

Last Night's Intervention
by brotherdan ini'm afraid of starting a new post because i've stepped on a few feet here with my last post... but i still love you guys.. last night i went home to find my wife and her friend on the couch with the bible, ready to show me how i'm wrong and exercising "apostate thinking".
my wife said, "i am unable to fight you with the bible because you know more than me about it.
but k** knows more and will be able to show you how you are wrong.. so my wife went into the other room so as not to be stumbled by my discussion.

You said: " I thought that was the weakest and most unbiblical of my arguments"
IMO, you will not get most witnesses to reason on biblical points but... if you can get them to see the hypocrisy of those running the religion, a light bulb may go off in their heads. The Malawi/Mexico issue, the UN/ngo debacle, the double standard in Bulgaria... these are the smoking guns that make people wonder if they are not being deceived about other things...
Oh, and you did not step on anyone's toes (not reasonable people anyway). We are all free to respectfully express our opinions here. :)

What letter, Ynot? I was an active witness at the time. I can assure you no such letter was read. And just four years ago, my husband brought the issue up to our elders and they did not have a clue.

i want to preface this by saying that i don't judge any of you and i believe in the right of freedom of speech and freedom of religion, including your freedom to not practice one.. however, i'm finding a trend among some ex jws here.

You said:
"However, guys...there is truth out there. Everything is not a strange mystery that no one will understand. It takes more faith to believe in something like evolution than it does to have faith in the Bible. The leaps and bounds you have to assume to compensate for the lack of a God are more than what you have to accept from the Bible. This is very well documented in a book by Norman Geisler in "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist". It examines what science knows and doesn't and what the Bible can prove and what it can't and compares which requires more faith to believe.
If Jesus does not exist and did not die for our sins, then we are helpless, hopeless, and lost for all time. I can't imagine feeling like that. There are too many things that the Bible got right that it could not have gotten right unless it was inspired for me to just throw it all away. They bring up supposed contradictions. They bring up the horrible things done in the name of religion to back up claims that there is no way to get close to God."
I mean no disrespect when I say this, but: Yes "there is truth out there", but does this mean it's an absolute truth as in "the Bible says so, so it's true"?
And since when is evolution to be taken on "faith"? It's about science, provable facts, not faith. Once you trully understand the concept and science of evolution you will see it clear as day and you will notice evidence of it all around you. No faith required.
And why are we "hopeless" and "lost for all time" w/o Jesus? I think you're projecting your feelings onto the rest of us. While they are real to you, they are just that: "feelings". There are many non-christian religions that offer people a sense of hope and purpose, as well as many unbelievers who find these in life itself. No Jesus needed.
I too, think the Bible has some very good advice, such as "the golden rule", but I don't believe it or any other book is inspired by a being higher than humans. I don't think that saying as much is disrespectful and my intent is not to offend.

People Who Refuse to Tip at Restaurants are Embarrassing!
by White Dove inegg and i were treated out to dinner three times last weekend by out of state visiting relatives.
just found out last night that they don't believe in tipping, at all!
we suggested the places to eat and frequent those places ourselves.

My kids were always recognized for giving excellent service by both patrons and management. The quality of their tips seemed to reflect the type of restaurant and the clientele they pulled in. At "Applebee's" (my son worked at 3 of them), my son was routinely stiffed. At "Bravo" he was rarely stiffed. Now he is at a very high end restaurant and he never gets stiffed.
Classy people tip well, trashy people don't.
If you can't afford to tip your server, go to McDonald's or stay home.

Ya know... I love what you're trying to do, but... the WT did not actually "join" the UN... you have to be a country to do that...
The WT became an NGO of the DPI of the UN, which is a big no-no, since they had to accept the priciples of the UN's charter (which has some clauses that clearly are contrary to JW teachings) and make the programs of the UN ("the disgusting thing that causes desolation") known in their publications and report back to the UN about how these efforts were going...
You may say I'm argueing semantics, but there is a big difference between being a member of the UN and being an NGO. The witnesses will be quick to point that out to opposers and that could be the end of the discussion if they don't have any details.
Maybe your shirt could read: "The WT played footsie with the UN", or something along those lines.
If we are not accurate in our critique of the WT what we say will blow up in our face and we do more harm than good to the cause of enlightening others.

Oh, an GB has a point. Elders can't call meetings that are not part of the sanctioned schedule and expect you to attend.

You are an unbaptized adult. No need to say anything or give an excuse. If you don't want to go, don't go. :)
