You come to my door and I feel like I have to say yes to anything you say
by dgp insince i am among witnesses, i am sure that most of you had more than one door slammed to your face.
i have not had that experience, yet i think it must be awful to walk the streets knowing full well that most people aren't remotely interested in what you have to say, and will probably mistreat you.
yet, i think i can share the other side of the coin.. i believe that one of the many reasons whyh door-to-door preaching fails is the fact that, even if you're willing to listen to the person, very quickly you realize that the questions and the material presented to you are all organized so you can only say "yes" to whatever the witness says.

As a "born in" I often wondered why people listened to us. If I had not been born I never would have listend to JWs or any other door to door group. I just don't get the appeal.

I don't know why I respond to AIW's posts, it's the "train wreck syndrome" I guess... I'm going to try not to in the future...Maybe we should all ignore her...she needs help, but not the kind we give here. Many have posted thoughtful, well reasoned, even kind responses to her in hopes of appealing to her heart and her reasoning abilities. I'm starting to think she has neither. She just wants to dig her heels into her delusions and fight. Can we help her? No. Do we need the aggravation? No. Let's move on to more positive and productive things...

So... let me get this straight: you honestly sent that letter and you honestly see nothing wrong with it. Did I get that right?

Just Heard Some Shocking News
by jookbeard ina predatory jw paedophile micheal porter (uk) who has a 15 year record of abuse including the rape of his own baby but somehow evaded jail now is a member of my old congregation;wimbledon.
words fail me, to think of the years of shunning that these idiots have heaped upon me even by my own family and this piece of shit was seen a this years memorial laughing and joking with the congregation.
strange that this news story slipped passed me when it was broadcast by the british media in 2007..

Is the congregation (the people) aware that a pedophile is in their midst? No church can deny a person the right to worship, JWs are not unique in this. But people need to know to keep their children far away from him.
If he is in the same area where he was when the story broke, I would think people are aware of who he is and it is up to individuals to guard their children. If he is out of the area, I like the idea of calling the media for a follow-up story. This will get the tounges wagging and in no time all will know.
Make sure to pass the word around town and if you know any witnesses from that cong. make sure they pass the story along to any new ones in the area. You can't count on the elders to sound a warning, that's for sure.

Today is my 2yr Anniversary of being OUT of JWs - honoring it with a letter! (long)
by babygirl30 intoday is my 2yr anniversary since being df'd - and my life has changed a lot!!!
this is a letter i wrote to my parents...i did see/talk to them in feb when i had my surgery, but of course as it goes, now that i'm 'better' - they are back to shunning me.
so this was sent to them both, so that they understood that despite all the jw bull ish, and how they are treating me now - i'm ok and happy!

http://changingminds.org/explanations/theories/cognitive_dissonance.htm
The above site does a pretty good job of describing CD.
What I was referring to in the letter, is the fact that the poster, despite seeing the futility of the DFing arrangement and also seeing that it is not her pareant's fault for going along with what they have been taught (wrongly) is the right thing to do, at the same time continues to believes in their god and in his coming day of vengance.
I'm not saying she should not have spiritual beliefs, but it seems to me she is still holding on to the thought that JW's are mostly right in what they preach. This is in direct opposition to the freedom of thought that she is now adopting, and hence: cognitive dissonance.

If you have a belief system of any kind, can you think of any sort of evidence or test which could disconfirm it?
