i must have missed this on my travels thru different x-dub sites, but i think i read something on here about their "new light" regarding the timing for armegeddon.

since its been over 30 years since 1975, how do they predict armegeddon now?

what do they tell new converts regarding the 1975 debacle?

Good. ..I'm glad to hear that other people remember it as I do. It is very sad as you say, but true nonetheless, no matter what they try to say about it now.

What was your WORST Field Service encounter???

someone mentioned to me the other day about going door to door back when i was a jw.

"weren't you scared to do something like that, knock on a stranger's door?

actually it's been so long that i had almost forgotten.

Does anyone remember the stories that went around about people being out in service and an angel protecting them from a murder or molester? I remember one story that went around here - and was even discussed at a circuit assembly. A sister was going door to door and a man answered. She did her little verbal dissertation and the man got rid of her. Right afterwards the Avon lady came by and the guy pulled her inside and killed her. After he was arrested, he was asked why he didn't harm the JW lady that was just at his door minutes before and he replied "are you kidding, with those two huge guys that were with her"???? The "sister" was supposedly alone and the angels came down and protected her from the man. I remember this story so vividly as a teen.

It's truly amazing what they're told now. There were many people who sold off everything back then - and it damn sure wasn't due to being too materialistic. They did what they thought Jehovah wanted them to do - preach full time until the end came. They felt a sense of urgency that came directly from the society. I lived it - I remember it. The ones who sold everything were looked upon as "spiritually strong - with a special love for Jehovah". They put their faith in Jehovah - that he would provide for them. The sad thing was - that when Armegeddon didn't come, these people didn't have any way of taking care of themselves in their old age - and the society wasn' t going to step up and supplement them. It's a real eye opener what you said about what the older witnesses say now about what happened back then. It's no wonder they're told to stay off the internet - they don't want to take the chance that any of them will read what actually happened back then. It was a big major deal - I remember the assembly when it was announced - everyone was dumbfounded - during the intermissions - the place was a buzz - everyone talking about 1975 - teenagers wondering if they'd graduate high school or should just quit now - it was the most exciting thing that had happened to them! Young people were encouraged not to get married, unless they felt they just couldn't stay "clean" (without sex) and young married people were encouraged to put off having children until after Armegeddon - so they could pioneer also without the burden of raising children. I knew couples that were "waiting until the new system" to have kids - then I heard later - after 10 or 15 years, that they finally had had a child.

2034 is the strongest date the WTBTS has "hinted at" Noah like work , 120 years ; 1914 +120 years = 2034 I was thinking the same thing. . .I'll be 79. . . if I make it to that age. Interesting new theory though. . .I wondered what they had come up with since 75 failed them miserably. Amazes me how many times the "old-timers" like my parents are going to hear 'new light" and buy it.

Oh my gosh. . .I remember that little pamphlet we used on Thursday night meetings - forget what its called - you know with the latest news - saying that "many were selling their homes and going where the "need was greater" before the end and that they were complimenting them for doing so. You can't imagine the number of people who quit their good jobs, sold their homes, and did janitorial work so they could pioneer full time. My ex-in-laws were two people who did just that. They sold their home, he quit his good job with FoMoCo, and they moved and lived in a camper trailer that was like 15 feet long. They did part-time janitorial work and pioneered full time.

What was that little pamphlet called that we used at the meetings? Kingdom Ministry?? Was that it? Geez. . .my memory is not good anymore. It was in there - and I remember the night at the KH when they talked about it - I will never forget it. Makes me wonder about all the people my parents age who are still hanging in there - what do they think after all these years??? No one seems to question - they just move along doing the only thing they know.

I recall attending the District Assemblies when I was a kid and there always being people outside with tracts and my parents called them "The Evil Slave Class. They were always at the major assemblies. I could be way off base here, but I seem to recall the explanation being that they were members of the 144,000 who fell away hense the name "Evil Slave Class". Like I said, I could be wrong - it was a long time ago, but they were always outside the assemblies. I remember one at Tiger Stadium, when I was 15 or 16, and there was a huge group of them that year. As we walked by, they tried to hand their literature to you. My parents always said, "DON'T TALK TO THEM - EVER". They always tried to talk to the kids and hand the pamplets to the kids. We weren't to go outside the stadium for fear we would encounter them - although you didn't go too far outside Tiger Stadium if you had a brain anyways. Does anyone hear remember this? Is anyone old enough?????

Thanks "never ending journey" and everyone for your comments. I've always wondered about this. . .how they keep people interested and controlled with the proper fear that the big A is right around the corner. I think I remember reading that there were thousands of dubs that left the organization after 75 came and went. I think I've also read, or maybe it was talked about on the last group I was on (philia) that the society tried to say they never indicated that 1975 was the year. If that's the case - that's total crap!! Those of us older ones on here remember well. As a kid, I remember by dad picking me up from my part time job one day, and there was a terrible storm. . .very black. ..lots of lightening and thunder. .. and having a look on my face of terror and my dad saying, "are you thinking Armegeddon is here"??? I think I was. . .how he knew what I was thinking amazed me. Guess he thought he had taught me well. I was on one of these sites and reading different posts (don't remember which one) but there were younger people stating that "the society never said Armegeddon was coming in 1975 - it was all witnesses who read that meaning into it". I was dumbfounded that these younger witnesses had no idea what went on back then. They must pretty well try to keep those predictions hidden from new members so as not to discourage them.

So now they are actually setting exact dates???? Wow. . .when the 1975 timeline came out. . .they were at least careful not to give specific dates. . .you know. . ."the time and hour no one knows" stuff. I'm shocked that they are actually setting exact dates. Where did you get your info? May I ask?

I must have missed this on my travels thru different X-dub sites, but I think I read something on here about their "new light" regarding the timing for Armegeddon. Since its been over 30 years since 1975, how do they predict Armegeddon now? What do they tell new converts regarding the 1975 debacle? Having lived thru it, but leaving a few years after, I've never heard what their new interpretation is on this subject? If there's a web site with this info. . .just direct me if its easier.
