I have a touchy situation...could use some advice
by tenyearsafter ini just got an e-mail from my 80 year old mother asking my wife and i to join her for the memorial this year.
i really don't want to go, but i am also trying to maintain some degree of a relationship with her.
she is breaking the "rules" by not shunning me, but i don't know how she will react if i reject her invitation.

Thanks again for all of your comments...I really appreciate your thoughtful (and sometimes very funny) comments and input. I am still mulling this one over, but I am leaning toward thanking her for her invitation and pass. I say this for a number of reasons...I have been DF'ed for 15 years, so this is not new to her. She has pretty much ignored the "rule" of cutting me off, so I am hoping this wouldn't make her start following the "rules" after 15 years. Last, but not least, I think she is playing the master manipulation game in throwing this one out there this year. I am still torn, but I really don't like the idea of being guilted into going and being treated like I don't exist the whole time I am there.
Again, thanks to all of you for the great advice!
P.S. - My wife suggested that she would go if my Mom would go to church with her on Easter...fat chance of that invitation being accepted!!

Why do some of you JW's stay in the organization?
by dgp ini have read that up to 67% of all jw's leave the religion when they come of age.
so i wish i could know why the others stay.
in your opinion, what keeps them in?

I am having a bit of trouble following you Ex...what religion are you describing that believes those things but do not tell about Jehovah? If you are an ex-JW, why do you defend the WTS?...are you trying to go back? I would love to understand your situation...

Fortunately my cats are hairless...no hairballs but a bit of an oily residue!

Thanks everybody...I appreciate the insights. I will talk to my wife and see what makes sense.
...though I like the monkey's idea about licking the cat clean and getting drunk! LOL

I just got an e-mail from my 80 year old mother asking my wife and I to join her for the Memorial this year. I really don't want to go, but I am also trying to maintain some degree of a relationship with her. She is breaking the "rules" by not shunning me, but I don't know how she will react if I reject her invitation. She is not in great health, so I would rather not cause a split with her at this late stage of the game. My wife has never been a JW and dislikes the Memorial (she likens it to sitting through a tax seminar), but she would go just to keep the peace.
My question is, should I do what "keeps the peace" with my Mom or do I draw the line and risk a split in our relationship?

I am reading it now...through the first few chapters and it is a good read. It certainly scores a bulls-eye in describing what it was like growing up a JW. I could particularly relate to the discomfort of running into school friends while out door to door and the snarky questions about being a JW from "worldly" kids. I am looking forward to getting back to reading more...

Jeff T - We must be the same age as I did all of those classic rock shows myself...and CSN&Y were great...I sam them in LA and they took a few songs to warm up, but then they smoked it!
More recently, The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" has to be the best...and believe it or not, two years ago, the Tom Jones show...that man put on an unbelievable live show!

Romans 13:1
1 Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves.
Daniel...you might ask your friend how your employment with the "superior authorities" is in conflict with the above scripture?...
