I frequently had the "privilege" of handling the mics, closing with prayer and handling the literature after the meeting...what a full measure I was shown!!

Non-Fundamentalists: Is Evangelism Necessary?
by leavingwt inmost christians alive today have rejected the notion of eternal, physically painful punishment for non-believers after death.
(annihilationism, universalism and defining hell as an 'absence of/separation from god' are the most common beliefs, today.).
so, if you're a christian who doesn't view christianity as the only road to salvation, do you think evangelism is required or necessary?.

So, if you're a Christian who doesn't view Christianity as the ONLY road to salvation, do you think Evangelism is required or necessary?
LWT, that is an interesting question. I might take a bit of exception with the supposition that Christians might accept that there are alternative roads to salvation, since that would be a direct contradiction to carrying the name Christian. Evangelism (sharing the gospel) is central to the Christian belief, but that does not mean that is limited to what many see as "Evangelism", ie: a church sermon, JW-type door to door preaching, street corner Bible thumping or even outreach work such as soup kitchens or missions for street people. Evangelism can include things as simple as helping a neighbor, volunteering for a project to help inner city residents do home improvement, collections of supplies for food banks...even a simple change in lifestyle that would perhaps prompt people to ask why that change occurred or allow the "evangelist" to share the gospel. It certainly doesn't need to be an "in your face" type of activity...as we all know from our JW days, that is ultimately an ineffective way to "open" people's minds to another way of looking at things.
We all evangelize our beliefs in some manner, be it Christianity, Atheism, Paganism, etc...it is the nature of people to validate their beliefs by sharing it with others, be it strangers or friends. -

Other Religions use the Name JEHOVAH too
by UnDisfellowshipped inare jehovah's witnesses really the only religion that promotes and preaches the name of jehovah?.
jw's are always claiming that they are the only religion that preaches and uses the name jehovah, and that is why only they will be saved.
for example, look at this quote from the watchtower:.

Most evangelical Christian teachers use the name Jehovah, including Charles Stanley, Joel Osteen, Adrian Rogers and numerous other well known pastors...

Did leaving the WT build greater appreciation for or kill your reading of the Bible?
by lepermessiah ini am really on the fence on this issue right now and would love some opinions.. i find that i dont sit down and read the bible for long periods since becoming inactive, but on the other hand, individual scriptures mean much more to me now.. i will sit down and look up some favorite passages from time to time and feel like its the first time i really "got it" - without the jw goggles on.
i love matthew chapter 23, since i think it describes to a tee the situation in jw congregations.
i think if jesus returned today, he would blast the elders and "leaders" of the borg in a similar fashion (along with most religious leaders) .matthew 24 is actually more interesting to me now, simply because my whole life was waiting for the 1914 generation to end sometime during the reagan era!

I think it renewed my interest in it...I realized how I never "read" the entire Bible, but rather read snippets strung together to make a WTS point. I only felt it right that I try and read the entire book to get a sense of it. I am still doing that, using a modern translation, and it is amazing how different it seems as compared to my JW days. It certainly is an interesting read when you do it without the bias of an agenda...

What Are Some Of The Dumbest Beliefs JW's Have?
by minimus ini know there are a lot.. one belief i never understood is that blood fractions might be ok for a christian but not "whole blood".
to me the "blood doctrine" is ridiculous from a scriptural point of view..

How about...
We are not prophets so anything we say that doesn't happen can't be a false prophecy...but we are God's Channel on earth and as such receive our guidance directly from him and if we make a mistake it is just because we needed new light...don't rush ahead of God's Organization!

Earthquakes, Persecution: I Hate Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
by OnTheWayOut inwhen i heard that another earthquake happened, this one in baja california, i didn't want to mention it to the wife.
apparently, a series of earthquakes has recently happened with one possibly aiding to trigger the next.
but that doesn't change the fact that we always have earthquakes from time-to-time.

You might mention to your wife that the Dr. Lucy Jones, the top seismologist at Cal Tech/USGS stated the only thing unusual about the earthquake situation is how quiet it has been the past 15 years! She said that in an interview on the news yesterday...
