Is there a new "full court press" to bring back "lost ones"?
by tenyearsafter ini ask the question because all of a sudden i am getting bombarded by my mother and other family members to "take my wife's hand and run back to jehovah before it is too late"!!
i am getting e-mail with screen shots of the un website (http://www.un.org/en/peace) stating "peace and security", being told that this could likely be the last memorial celebrated and that the door to the ark will be closing soon.
has anyone else been seeing an up-tick in these "prodigal son" appeals from jw friends and family?

Has anyone else been seeing an up-tick in these "prodigal son" appeals from JW friends and family? I have been DF'ed for 16 years, and this is the first time I recall such an intense campaign to get me to "come to my senses".
Just curious...

Krettnawe,
I think the point being made is that the reinstated ones are still treated as pariah, and not welcomed back like the Prodigal Son...if they were welcomed back, I don't think you would be reading the sarcasm.

Is this not an easy question?
by the pharmer ini wanted my jw friend's perspective on something, so i asked them this question:.
if i read a passage of scripture and conclude about it something that opposes the wt's view of the same passage, in your mind who has the truth about that passage (i.e.
who is correct)?

djeggnog,
The one point you completely miss is that the fact you may be ULTIMATELY correct in your understanding of a scripture, means nothing at the time of your coming to that understanding. Using your example of the "superior authorities" in Romans 13:1, if your understanding was that those authorities were the earthly governments at the time the WTS understood it to mean Jah and Jesus...and if you openly disagreed with that understanding, YOU would be disciplined. Why?...not because you would ultimately be proved correct, but rather because you disrupted the "unity" of the congregation. Being right or wrong has nothing to do with the WTS...it is being in lock-step agreement with them at the time that matters.

The classic features of a JW wedding are:
by highdose infirstly a wedding/sales talk that mostly features heavily on how the woman should behave (hint, doormat) and lightly brushes over the fact of the husbands bevhaviour ( oh yeah he should treat her well).
the reception normaly at some crummy comunity hall with yellowed ceilings and chucks of damp plaster falling off the walls.
the seats normaly arranged facing eachother all around the edge, so that theres a huge unused space in the middle and everyone is climbing over everyone elses legs to get to their chair.. a big spread donated by everyone, normaly an ode to food poisoning.

the pharmer,
C.T. Russell stated that if someone were to read the Bible without the benefit of his writings to "help" them understand, they would be completely in darkness within 6 months. As far as I know, this belief hs not changed among the the powers that be at the WTS, be it Rutherford, Knorr, Franz or the subsequent Governing Bodies.
I think the question you asked would be easy for a JW to answer...you would be wrong and the WTS would be right if there was a conflict in understanding. If your understanding was the same, the WTS would still be correct...and you just happen to agree with it. A JW would also probably say if you did agree that it was because of the understanding you were given by the WTS!

Theism or Atheism? If you awoke with amnesia tomorrow...
by unshackled in...and therefore had to start from scratch, do you think you'd arrive at your same current stance on belief or non-belief in god?
why or why not?.

I think it is man's nature to search for answers to the unanswered...if I had a fresh slate to work from, I think I would most likely look at various belief systems from Christianity to Atheism, including Eastern beliefs...not knowing what was sensible. I also think my nature of thinking there is more to life than just 70-80 years of existence would make me gravitate to something that offers hope. That may seem a bit unrealistic to some, but I want to believe that there is more than just a "dirt nap" awaiting me!

Westboro Church Update on BBC
by cofty inright now there is a documentary on the bbc about louis theroux' second visit to the infamous phelps family.
it's a follow up to a similar documentary four years ago.. a considerable number of members have left in the last few years while the cult has become even more extreme.
louis has just interviewed young woman who has got out and started nursing.

sleepingbeauty,
I hate to say this, but these guys make JW's seem moderate and reasonable! It was interesting talking to Shirley Phelps...she can turn it on and off like a lightswitch. One second she is pleasant and the next she is rabid!

April WT: 6 prophesies you are seeing fulfilled - earthquakes...
by NVR2L8 innew light?
the article states that jesus never said there would be an increase in earthquakes, but that they would be "great" earthquakes in one place after the other...like we have seen lately.
this is quite a change with the wts' obsession of trying to prove that since 1914 there has been a significant increase in the number of occurances, comparing fictious numbers from the time of jc until 1914 and from 1914 until today!

Could the increase we are seeing be as a result of the modern ability for instantaneous communication and media?
100 years ago, it would take weeks, if not months, to get any info from abroad...and nothing from more remote areas of the world. Interesting thought, huh?
