Joining the Military. :D
by lucky1rish inso, i am in my early 20's.
i'm a firefighter, an emt, and hazmat technician (those guys that take care of chemical accidents), and i'm wanting more of a challenge in my line of work.
i've always loved saving people, i keep calm in frantic situations and i love the challenges.

The Coast Guard might be an alternative. It is not a part of the Department of Defense, but rather is under the Department of Homeland Security. Technically it is a law enforcement agency rather than a pure military branch. With that being said, during war time it can be tranfered from Homeland Security to the Navy. Though it is a technicality, you might be able to sell it to your folks as a law enforcement/first responder career rather than a military career. A longshot, but we know how JW's love technicalities to justify things (ie: blood vs. blood fractions). Good luck with your decision!

When You Left The "Truth" Were People Shocked?

When I left (got DF'ed) it shocked people...not because I was gone, but because I left my wife (who is still a strong JW). I was the bad guy, so no one has ever followed up with me, including the elders on my JC. The only ones that ever even mention coming back are my mother and brother, but I think they know that isn't going to happen...not after 16 years out.

Ahhh Blondie...you bring back memories of the 1963 Rose Bowl assembly! Miserably hot and crowded, my family spent the bulk of the time working in the fruit salad tents cutting up surplus melons, brown bananas, etc. to make thousands of semi-edible fruit bowls! If memory serves me right, Billy Graham was holding a crusade at the LA Coleseum during the same time period as the Rose Bowl assembly. I recall the LA Times always giving the attendance stats for both events as if they were in a competition. I believe Billy Graham's total attendance for that crusade exceeded 100,000, but I can't recall who actually won the total attendance number for their event, BG or JW's...ahhh, the memories!!

RIP Michael Jackson
by sizemik init's one hour into june 25th here in new zealand .
and two years since the death of michael jackson.. we all know of his family life and the connection the family had to the jehovah's witness religion, his abusive father, and the less than ideal childhood he experienced.
his struggles with his identity and his past manifested itself in a life of extreme highs and lows.

MJ attended the same congregation I did in the 80's, and though I didn't know him well, I did find him to be a shy, sensitive and pleasant young man. He tended to be very quiet around adults and gravitated towards children, especially at "get togethers". I never detected anything inappropriate about his interactions with the kids...he just seemed more comfortable around them. I was sorry to see how extreme his life became, but he was a true talent and a genuinely nice person.
