  Was it the doctrine or the control that woke you up?

  even though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.

  i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.

  even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.

  I would say control first...nothing you did was ever enough. Certain doctrine nagged at me...especially the generation of 1914 not passing away. I always wondered, "what will we do if nothing happens before they do pass away?"...the rest is history.

  Disfellowshipping Rescinded!

  has anyone been successful in getting their disfellowshipping rescinded?

  i specifically do not mean getting reinstated.

  i want to know if anyone that was disfellowshipped was able to officially and through the congregation and/or the organization have their status as a "disfellowshipped person" changed without getting "reinstated" through the normal procedures?.

  I have heard of a very few DF'ings being appealed and rescinded, but it is very rare...after all, as Lasch mentioned, the proceedings are guided by Holy Spirit so they can't be wrong.

  wow... i never pick happy times to make posts on this board... so before i continue, i give you a puppy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amt0nq4mvci&feature=fvst.

  anyway, so my other roommate is planning on moving out in january (spoke of the craziness that's been going on lately in an earlier thread).

  i asked him what his plans for his portion of the lease/rent were so that we could plan accordingly, and he told us that we could find someone to cover his portion for the remainder of the lease.

  Military Service

  i need your guys help.. some of you might know some of my past from other posts...but new life changes have happened to me.. i have recently joined the united states navy.

  i was orginally going in as a nuclear engineer...i have instead opted for a much less boring life in the advanced electronics computer field (aecf) rate.

  my father's side of the family (who has been out for 20+ years) are very excited and proud of me for my decision.

  EXMS...unfortunately, I don't think there is much you can say at this point to ease your mother's mind. In her mind, you have sided with Satan's system and as such have rejected God and his followers (her). Trying to reason with irrational responses doesn't work...time may soften her feelings, but if she is a strong JW, she will shun you. I wish I could offer more, but unfortunately this is the JW mind-set towards those they perceive as rejecting God and his organization. Good luck as you work your way through this...

  It is interesting...this topic was one of the first things my non-JW wife noticed in discussing JW beliefs. It struck her as a complete disregard for the "gift of Grace" from God. To use the term of undeserved kindness "cheapens" the concept of Grace and makes it something that must be continually earned to keep...thus the emphasis of works for salvation in the JW life. Good topic!

  i went by a protest today.

  someone was holding a sign to "stop big banks now," basically saying they agree with the government taking control of the banks and what they do.

  next to this person, was a person holding a sign that said, "make marijuana legal!

  I don't understand DC...are you asking if the Right would be responsible for the flyers because the Left is pro-union? I doubt it is either mainstream side, but rather the fringe from either side who is responsible.

  Do you feel moved or obligated to check in on JW family?

  if you are being shunned, do you ever feel out of obligation that you should be the bigger person and check in on parents or siblings who are still jw's and have nothing to do with you?

  i have reached out to my sibling and get zero back.

  it hurts, and i am angry about it, yet from time to time i still feel a tenderness in my heart and let it be known that the love and care and concern is there.

  Hi NC...I wasn't making a judgement on the Occupy movement. Whether I agree or not with Occupy Movement, things like this flyer do nothing but hurt everyone. If it was put out by anarchists siding with Occupy Movement or right wing militia types trying to sabotage the Occupy Movement, it will ultimately hurt any good that can come from the protests. There are a lot of crazies out there, but if something happens, people remember where it happened and not necessarily who was responsible for the event.

  Regardless of which side you are on, this type of stuff will not help the Occupy Movement...and no one really knows who is behind it:

  PHOENIX, Ariz. — A flyer surfaced at 'Occupy Phoenix' that encourages the shooting of police officers, asking "When should you shoot a cop?"

  A sheriff's deputy found the disturbing flyer at the Cesar Chavez Plaza and reported it to the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center, according to KPHO. Officials informed all local law enforcement agencies, who are investigating.

  "Our investigation has begun, we're trying to determine who distributed those flyers. Who authored those," Bart Graves of the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

  Two 'Occupy' protesters claimed their group was not responsible, and they told TV reporters that the message doesn't help the movement's image.

  Although officials say no credible threats against law enforcement have been uncovered, the flyer chillingly advocates for cop killers and elevates them to almost hero status, Conservative Byte reported.
  
  "The next time you hear of a police officer being killed "’in the line of duty,’ take a moment to consider the very real possibility that maybe in that case, the ‘law enforcer’ was the bad guy and the ‘cop killer’ was the good guy," the flyer reportedly read.
