I can imagine that being an unarmed officer is quite stressful...here in the U.S., the police are all armed but that doesn't decrease the stress levels. It does tend to "even" the playing field a bit. I have had 25 years under my belt as a LEO, so I can empathize with you Joe! Often it is difficult to leave the job behind after retirement...thus the high incidence of depression and suicide amongst retired police officers.

Should you ever tell tour aging parents the truth about the truth
by Star tiger insince finding out the truth about the truth myself and having successfully extricated myself and my parents about the jw's, i find myself with a new dilema that being they still believe the bible as a literal book for their salvation as i has read all of thomas paines works and how the bible is not very good for the human family, as they are of advancing years would it be inappropriate to shatter their illusions of some kind of paradise and let them flounder in a moral precipice and wonder what their lives have been about.
on the flip side once their time has come how would i feel for not telling them their false views.
at the moment i am in the deist point of view, with a tendency of the agnostic, it is quite a dilema!.

I am torn on the issue...it depends which side of the fence you are on. If you are a Christian you would want to see your parents have a hope for salvation and that is only available to them through accepting Christ. The fact that they are JW's would work against them (since they aren't considered Christian by the mainstream), so you would feel it your Christian duty to enlighten them. If you are an Atheist, Deist, Agnostic or other "non-believer", you would probably take a less critical stand and let them live out their final years in their perceived happiness...it is all perspective.

Why Can JWs Eat Turkey On Thanksgiving & Still Say They Aren't Celebrating?

Turkey is on special during November...why wouldn't you provide a fine meal for your family while saving money at the same time...just plain good stewardship if you ask me!

I see this every time I talk to my Mother, so I understand your frustration. Until the "scales fall from their eyes", they will defend whatever they are told by the WTS. My Mother even told me the last time we spoke on the subject of the end times, "forget talking about the Organization and changes...you have to believe it anyway or you will ide at Armageddon"!

More from Tombstone:
"Go ahead. Skin it... Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens!"
"You gunna do somethin', or just stand there and bleed... "
"Yes, it's true you are a good woman. But then again, you may be the anti-Christ."
" Why, Johnny Ringo! You look like somebody just walked over your grave."
" It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds."
and of course...
" I'm your Huckleberry."

I think FaithfulBrother has nailed the essence of Paul's words at 1 Corinthians 8!!

I think FaithfulBrother is referring to the discussion Paul was having regarding the eating of food sacrificed to idols...and that eating it was not wrong, in and of itself. What was wrong was if it stumbled your brother...
With that being said, I guess JW's didn't worry too much about eating the sacrificed burgers of In n' Out!

@trueone...Terry definitely makes some compelling points. I would still like to hear the JW rationale for accepting the Canon and rejecting doctrine that sprang from the same or similar Councils of that time period.

Closest thing I have been to is In n' Out Burger...they have scriptures on the bottom of their drink cups (or at least they used to)...Alaska Airlines used to have a printed prayer on every tray of food they gave out to passengers.
If that were a decider for JW's, they missed out on some good burgers!
(Sorry Wha Happened...I just saw your post on In n' Out)

I agree Leolaia...the credibility of an argument loses steam when you trot out myths as facts!
Maybe you can weigh in on the reason JW's accept the Bible Canon when they reject other things brought forth by "Babylon the Great"?...have you come across this in your varied studies and research?
