SFPW...thank you for your thoughts on Matthew 24, but I am still a bit unclear as to why this particular parable (Matthew 24:45) should be accepted as literal when the others were parables for illustration of a specific point that Jesus was teaching on. While the signs of the end of this system may have a dual fulfillment (some biblical scholars feel it only had a 1st Century fulfillment), I don't see the direct connection to the FDS. I don't know that I agree with you on the "unprecedented" instances of famine, earthquakes and war occuring in the last 100 years...we can't forget that over 25% of the world's population died during the Black Plague in the 14th Century, the conquest of the Americas (15th Century) claimed as many lives as WWI, the China famines of the 19th Century claimed 45MM+ people, the earthquake in Shensi, China in the 1500's claimed the most lives (800,000+) of any earthquake in history...so we have evidence of these tragedies happening throughout years since Jesus' warning in Matthew.
I have trouble getting my arms around the self appointment of the GB as the FDS. If it could be explained to me, using the Bible, I would gladly accept it and acknowledge the error of my ways. Unfortunately, I have never seen anything shown to me from the Bible to that fact...just the statements by the self appointed FDS that they are what Jesus speaks of at Matthew 24:45. I am being sincere in asking for that biblical proof, and not just being contentious. If you can point me to the proof scriptures I would be grateful.
I agree with you that the WTS was "aggressive" in pointing to specific dates as being the start of the end times. Regardless of whether they specifically said, "this is the date", they certainly alluded to that as a fact. Having been a JW during that time (I was baptized in 1967), I can assure you that the reality of 1975 was VERY real to the great majority of JW's during that time. I personally saw the aftermath of financial and spiritual bankruptcy with many JW's who you describe as "self victims"...whether they brought it on themselves or not, the WTS's actions during that time were tantamount to a bystander yelling "jump" at a suicidal person standing on a building ledge.

SFPW...you make an eloquent argument for the GB being the "real deal" and being God's channel on earth. I am going to assume that you are being sincere in your comments, and not trying to "prank" everyone on JWN.
If you are sincere, can you answer two questions, because these are what really got me to thinking about the validity of the GB's claim to authority.
I agree that God has used some type of "voice" in dealing with his people...Moses, Abraham, etc. I can find no instance in the Bible where any of these "instruments of God" ever proclaimed anything (with the exception of future fulfillments) that did not come to be...can that be said of the WTS (the FDS) and its previous statements? Did any of the previous channels ever change direction and offer "new light" for a different explanation of God's instructions?
Why is the FDS, as described in Matthew 24:45 and Luke 12:42, to be taken as a literal personage when every other of the parables in the adjoining verses Jesus describes are taken as Jesus intended...as parables providing a lesson to the hearer of the parable?
These examples have truly troubled me, and no one has ever been able to show me a reason for these interpretations beyond saying in essence, "because we say it is true". Can you help me by showing me from the Bible where this authority and interpretation of scripture comes from?
If you choose not to answer me, I will assume you don't have an answer or choose not to substantiate your defense of the Truth as you see it...thank you.

Sounds like an irresponsible statement to me if it can't be supported by fact!

Looking at the new NWT app
by stillin ini always read the reviews.
i've never seen so many exclamation marks!!!.
any chance of downloading spyware into my computer?.

All things considered, it is a pretty good app. With the comparison of other translations side by side with the NWT, it could backfire on the WTS. It might just make some JW's think about the differences. It certainly is a step up to the modern era for the WTS...
I doubt that they could do tracking with an iPhone app, since Apple has to approve the app before it can be downloaded. If they want to find me, I am not making any secret of where I go or what I do!

Oh, those demonic 80's videos...
by CaptainSchmideo inback in the glorious mtv 80's decade, i was just hitting my twenties.
a district overseer gave a talk at a circuit assembly about, of course, "music that debases.
" he specifically zeroed in on this particular video:.

I love this video...I always thought of it as satire. Mark Metcalf is phenomenol!! I remember the huge brouhaha over the Thriller video...it was at the peak of Michael Jackson's JW era, and people were going crazy over the demonistic images in the video...sheesh!

As I said before...SFPW is either a master satirist or an insanely rabid JW apologist. I am starting to think the latter as the satirical trolling is getting old.

A House Divided Against Itself Falls-Luke 11:17
by Stand for Pure Worship inthat text reminds me of one of a handful of problems peculiar to the ex-jw community.
second only to the wild beast's internal divisions, is the divided makeup of the ex-jw populace.
you know the one thing that indicates jehovah's blessing upon the worldwide association of kingdom proclaimers, is not only the continued success of the preaching work, but along with it the unity and love amongst the brothers and sisters.
