  this must have been mentioned before,but now reniaa is back it could be fun.. if jw's are even part way to the truth,and all other religions are false, then they must have a doctrine that is unique to them,given by holy spirit, but plainly taught in the bible,without resorting to fancifull exegesis and bouncing around from verse to verse out of context etc.. what is that doctrine?.

  Reniaa...why do you feel the need to deflect from the question. To say we are bringing up dates and that these are irrelevant seems a bit insincere. The reason 1919 is important is that it is the basis for the authority of everything else the WTBTS speaks to. Again, is this appointment as God's channel on earth a fact because they say it is?? As Besty points out...if you don't accept the unique teachings of JW's (including 1919), you can't be one of them. Acceptance is not optional...approved association requires COMPLETE acceptance.

  I have to say, that if you were trying to bring me around to your point of view with these non-linear lines of reasoning, you would lose me to frustration. I feel like you are a politician speaking double-talk without ever directly answering a question. Help me out here Reniaa!

  Moments of Epiphany... and other touchstones in life...

  when i realized that 1975 was past, and the end appeared no closer than before.when a boe made up of men i had 'served' with for better than a decade were willing to write a letter of 'recommedation' that was character assassination at it's finest, and then defend the lies within with a straight face and no remorse.when i began to notice that many of the 'friends' seemed mentally unstable, in an organization that claimed it offered the greatest hope for mankind and the 'only true brotherhood' of supporter's available.when i saw a 'bible student' who was refused any assistance in her move to another congregation because of her sins before she was ever baptized [she never was in fact].when i was 'allowed' to conduct funerals and weddings that needed a minister, but for people who were too soiled in one way or another for the self-righteous upper-crust elders to touch.

  yet they all attended and seemed to rejoice/mourn with all others in attendance.the day in the early 90's when i read a critique of jehovah's witnesses in which the author roundly condemned jw's eschatology regarding the '1914 generation', and in such article stated that they would have to renounce such foolish reasoning soon, before the end of the century to avoid being the 'relgious laughingstock' of the world.the day in 1995 when i saw his predictions come precisely true in the watchtower.when i watched and saw no other jw's bothered by this massive change in position.the months that i compiled a chart in which, using actuarial mortality figures, in which i applied the numbers, age-group by age-group to the 'annointed' from 1941 to 2002, and saw that it was empirically impossible for 8500 to still be alive.the month in which i read ray franz' books, and found myself aware that my life was about to change forever.october 2006, when after 3 years of 'fading' and staying out of sight, i submitted my letter of disassociation, and saw a look of happiness on the face of the friend-elder that took the document, though it meant the end of 20 years of personal friendship with him.the day my cousin - my best friend for 35 years - decided i was unworthy of even a reply to a simple email.the list is longer.

  but so theraputic to put in words.

  When certain elders told me my questions may seem valid, but that certain things are not yet clear and that they will be answered as the light gets brighter...that I just need to wait on Jah. Mystery?...sounds a bit like the explanation of the Trinity!

  can we do a list of jw things that go "beyond what is written?".....

  or if there is one already...point me to it...the longer i am here...the more i realize that the fds/wt may have started with good intentions like maybe the pharisees did....but they went nutso and added a zillion things not even in the bible and so have the fds...some of these things are minor and some are not...like".

  1. hatred of mens facial hair and sideburns (privileges witheld if you have too much or wrong style) also length of mens hair.

  2. clothing requirements, ties/jackets/suits mandatory for ministry/talks/privileges....and sisters can freeze there ass of rather than wear a hilliary clinton pantsuit or they can not be on the school.

  I forgot about Chet Atkins (as many people do), but he was one of the clearest and cleanest guitar players ever...being a country guy, he has been missed by many other genre lovers.

  A Moral dilemma........

  it took me quite a while to come to a decision, i will tell you my answer after your responses.. .

  The real problem here is that by taking action, you will cause the death of someone...at the very least it would be considered manslaughter. That is the fact of the situation...inaction is a moral issue that would not result in legal consequences, but very likely, emotional consequences. What would be easier to live with? Taking action is like firing a gun...you can't get that bullet back once it leaves the barrel. The lever pull will change your life as well as the lives on the tracks. With that being said, I would look for a way to warn the one person on the track to get them out of harm's way.

  Good point Bizzy...it is hard to understand how strong that emotional bondage is, but I know that it is powerful. Having been a victim of that type of blind acceptance, I can empathize with Reniaa. I guess I don't understand why she defends it so strongly while stating that she is still deciding whether she wants to be a JW.

  Like Besty, I was hoping she would address my 1919 question...I would hate to think she would rather cut bait and not answer then have to give a direct answer to a very simple yes or no question. it will be interesting to see if she answers, but it has been a full day since she last posted so we may not see her return for a while...too bad.

  I learned the meaning of hatred...going door to door was where I actually saw hatred on people's faces when they realized I was a JW.

  does god have a name.in the watchtower "a person may be called sir,boss,dad,or grandpa,.

  depending on the circumatances.but his personal name reminds us of everything we know.

  This is an excellent post...and a thought provoking one. I would take it a step further and submit that not only would it be against the social norm to refer to your parents by their first names, it would be considered DISRESPECTFUL! I know that my father would have been appalled if I called him by his first name instead of Dad. If I want to piss my Mom off, I call her by her first name (sorry Mom!). The use of someone's name is very important in identifying them, but doesn't in and of itself indicate a "relationship". After all, Satan used God's name and he could hardly be considered as honoring God or having a close relationship with him.
