their records show that when a person is suspended with their hands over their head, as they would be on the jw "torture stake," they can survive for approximately one hour.

if their feet are tied down, as well, the time is reduced to about 15 minutes.. .

I find all of this discussion by you regarding stauros being a stake or a cross interesting, but irrelevant. WHAT does it matter if Jesus died on an upright stake or a stake with a cross member?? I thought the entire reason Jesus died was to pay the price of Adam's original sin thus paving the way for Christ's brothers to be with him for eternity. I don't recall anywhere in the Bible where there is any significance paid to the shape of the instrument of his death. This is a total red herring that takes away from the actual importance of the REAL issue at hand...the sacrificial death of Jesus!

I am a bit disappointed that you and other JW apologists would focus on this rather than the very salvation issues Jesus preached about while on earth...after all, you claim him as your Redeemer (sort of).

does anyone wish they could make amends for mistakes made as a jw?

i tried very hard to follow the teachings very closely, right down to shunning some of my relatives who were df'd.

i also think i was very judgemental and hard on others..

Exposing my kids to the ridicule of being "different" and not allowing them to grow up doing healthy, normal activities like sports, parties, etc....

A Memorial/Easter question

i was listening to the radio this morning and heard several easter service ads, and then i had a chat with my jw mom who had to remind me that april 9th was the memorial and it got me to wondering.... since jw's believe that once we die we cease to exist, did that mean that jesus ceased to exist for the three days between his death and his resurrection?

if he did cease to exist, was the resurrected jesus the same son of god that had been sent to earth to redeem mankind?...is the resurrected jesus a clone of the human jesus recreated from the memory of god?.

how would a jw answer that question?....

i was listening to the radio this morning and heard several easter service ads, and then i had a chat with my jw mom who had to remind me that april 9th was the memorial and it got me to wondering.... since jw's believe that once we die we cease to exist, did that mean that jesus ceased to exist for the three days between his death and his resurrection?

if he did cease to exist, was the resurrected jesus the same son of god that had been sent to earth to redeem mankind?...is the resurrected jesus a clone of the human jesus recreated from the memory of god?.

how would a jw answer that question?....

Narkissos, I didn't even think of the Michael---->Jesus transformation, but I could almost see that since Michael didn't "die" but rather was transferred to the human embryo. The ceasing of existence at death that Jesus experienced is a bit tougher for JW interpretation to explain away. The resurrection (re-creation) of Jesus according to JW teaching would mean that he was not the original Son of God who came to earth but rather a new creature created from the "memories" of the original Jesus.

Cameo, I understand the Protestant viewpoint...and from a pure continuity standpoint, it makes more sense than the JW interpretation...at least he went somewhere without ceasing to exist!

i was asked an interesting question by a jw relative and was not exactly sure how to answer it...thought i would throw it out to the scholars on the board:.

what was the expectation of an afterlife for faithful ones living before jesus was sacrificed?...did they believe they would have an afterlife on earth or in heaven?.

Blondie, it is interesting that the WTS mentions how remarkable and commendable the American Standard Version is using the name Jehovah over 6000 times in the Hebrew Scriptures ...no mention made of the name being used in the Christian Greek Scriptures...hmmm.

Moggy, I don't have an Emphatic Diaglott...do you or anyone else know how the more controversial verses like John 1:1, Revelation 19:1, etc. were translated in the ED?
