I'm not a car expert, but it sounds like a seperated belt...high performance tires are notorious for limited wear performance. My Corvette required new tires every 15K miles or so...if you got nearly 40K out of the Pirellis, I'd say you did well. As to driving to the tire store, it would depend on how far you have to go and how fast you will be driving. If you take it slow and easy, without too many miles to get there, you should be ok. Hope that helps a bit...

Did people with those signs outside the assemblies and meetings strengthen or weaken your beliefs?
by BonaFide inwhenever i saw people with signs against the witnesses outside the assemblies, it always strengthened my belief that the witnesses were right.. what about you?.

I never knew who they were, so I figured they were "Satan's agents sent to persecute me for my beliefs". Now I assume they are just very fundamental Christians trying to free JW's from the "cult"...
At the time, it made me feel strong and correct...though deep down, it bothered me that there were people who felt so deeply that we were wrong that they would take time out of their day to hang outside the assemblies with signs.

Welcome from California!
Just curious...you state your dad is DF'ed yet he keeps preaching to you. Why hasn't he repented and sought a return to the fold if he is so adamant it is the truth? Hmmmm...

I may be off base here, but aren't most of the ships seized by pirates a 100 or more miles off the Somalian coast? I recall reading that the attacks are happening further and further from the coast of Somalia. How does this then have anything to do with the sovereignty of Somalia's waters? Territorial waters are defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea :
...as a belt of coastal waters extending at most twelve nautical miles from the baseline (usually the mean low-water mark) of a coastal state.
This purely an issue of profit, nothing more...since it is a criminal venture, it should be handled accordingly.

Jesus not crucified on torture stake. Impossible!
by sacolton inunwittingly the germans, during wwii, they experimented with many, many ways for killing people, efficiently and quickly.
their records show that when a person is suspended with their hands over their head, as they would be on the jw "torture stake," they can survive for approximately one hour.
if their feet are tied down, as well, the time is reduced to about 15 minutes.. .

Reniaa...
I am not arguing the validity of the shape of Jesus' instrument of death...I said, "What does it matter?!"
You have chosen to ignore that question with a smattering of red herring comments about wearing or worshipping a "pagan" symbol. With the exception of Catholic or certain Orthodox churches, I am unaware of ANY christian churches that burn incense, worship or even look to the cross as anything more than a symbol of the sacrifice that Jesus made. If a person wears a cross (and I am not advocating it), does that make them a worshipper of the cross??...or might it act as reminder to them of the importance of the sacrifice Jesus made for them?
To avoid the relevancy of the means of that death by arguing the type of execution device is nonsense. If your favorite child were executed, would it matter to you whether it was by gun, blade or noose??...no, it is the fact that they were executed. You mention that this is all about mis-translation of original renderings...again, irrelevant!
I would like you to answer the question as to the relevance of the instrument of death. Please do that and then we can look at other issues that are necessary for salvation. Do you believe that if you are right about the stauros being an upright pole, it makes you anymore elgible for eternal life? If someone believed that Christ was sacrificed for mankind, but believed it was on a cross, would that automatically exclude them from eternal life?
I also noticed that you did not comment on the physical logistics of Jesus dragging the torture stauros through the streets on his way to execution...please explain that for me.

***Things You'd Like To Say But Stifle Yourself From Saying***
by minimus indue to the fact that my mother and some other relatives and a handful of friends are devout jehovah's witnesses, i sometimes stifle my remarks regarding "the truth".. my mother asked me if i felt bad at all for not attending the memorial this year.

i simply said that i did not feel bad at all.

Maybe I should have responded by saying what a great witness their actions create for my "never a JW" wife...she is soooo impressed by the Christian love and forgiveness

Reniaa, why are you ignoring my question/comment and continuing to focus on the shape of the stauros??
Good point Earnest...that might be one argument for a stake, but I still think it is unreasonable to believe that he would have been able to drag a "tree" through the streets of the city in his weakened condition. Pure physics would argue against his ability to do that:
Average weight of wood is 6-11 pounds per cubic foot. Assume that the stauros used is 10 feet tall (assumption is that Jesus was 6 feet tall and the stake required a minimum of 3 feet in the ground to support the weight of a man). Assume that the stauros 12"x12" (again to support a man's weight). This would mean that that stauros had a volume of 10 cubic feet (I hope my less than stellar math skills are correct here!). A ten foot pole then would have a volume of 10 cubic feet and weigh anywhere from 60-110 pounds. I don't know too many strong, uninjured and rested men that could drag something that heavy and awkward any distance, much less an injured, exhausted man. I realize that alot of this measurement is conjecture, but it is definitely something to stimulate thought!
In any case, we do agree on the key point...it is the death that is key, and not the shape of the instrument of death that matters!

This is an interesting thread...I had an interesting experience the other day. Like Minimus, I still have several devout JW family members in so I measure my words when discussing "sensitive" issues with them.
I was invited to my nephew's wedding (at the last minute as an after-thought), but specifically not to the reception. I explained to my brother that I was declining to attend since I did not want to subject my non-JW wife to shunning and rude behavior from the other guests nor did I want to take away from the young couple's day by creating awkward situations. I offered my best wishes to the bride and groom, and said I would be sending a gift to them.
My brother responded graciously, but ended his e-mail to me with the following:
"Now, think about adjusting matters so when Bxxxx's big day rolls around it will be a complete family celebration."
Once again, it is MY fault that we aren't together as a family, and if I just repent and "return to the fold" all will be well. I really was tempted to fire back a snappy comeback to this, but I felt I would be the better man and just let it go...

Though I stand by my statement that the argument over shape is irrelevant, I find Leolaia's comment on Christ carrying his "cross", "stake", etc., very interesting.
Logic would tell you that it is unlikely that Jesus, even though a perfect man, would be able to carry a "stake" large enough to be crucified on to his execution site. I would suggest that even a cross-member would be very heavy and unwieldy for a man to carry any distance...especially a man who had been tortured and beaten!
Throughout history, specified execution sites had "re-usable" instruments of death in place, ie: hangman gallows, firing squad walls, electric chairs, gas chambers, etc. Would it not be reasonable to believe that the Romans had set areas for crucifixion? Would it be reasonable to think that they had the stakes already in place and then the person being crucified could be placed on the stake via a cross-member?
Again, I don't know why the shape of the instrument of death is so critical, but I think there are PLENTY of reasons to believe that an upright stake was not a very feasible method of crucifixion...
