  How Would You Prove That Abstaining From Blood Is Not Prohibiting Transfusions?

  last night my grandson got a blood transfusion.

  it occured to me how stupid the belief is that to "abstain from blood" refers to a transfusion.

  how would you reason with someone to show that abstaining from blood would not refer to accepting a blood transfusion?.

  The whole blood issue becomes so lost in the argument that after a while you can't see the forest for the trees!

  Reniaa...there is no doubt that the prohibition on blood in both the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures refers to DIETARY restrictions...to make the jump to medical use is illogical. Though there are medical risks to using blood, that is not a rationale for abstaining from blood. Having surgery is also a risk...would you decline that? IV administration of blood has no connection to eating blood! As has been pointed out before, if you were "fed" via IV only, you would starve to death...IV administration supports circulatory volume and oxygenation. As Jamie points out, if you only were given blood via IV you would definitely starve to death! To equate it with eating is total nonsense.

  I like how Moggy put it...to simplify Acts 15 with the WT explanation misses the entire point of the scripture.

  Insomniacs...your tricks for staying asleep?

  personally i have tried ambien,....yes puts me out but i am up in 2 to 3 hours.....heavy doses borrowed from those taking it for years.

  they are shocked it dosen't keep me down.

  i just wake up woozey....i hate it.. i can fall asleep easy but just dont stay asleep....its absolutely awful.. i wake up probably 3 times a night if not more, ....i take the dog out, whether he wants to or not, go out smoke a cig and then go back to sleep.. what i find helps me is very fresh ironed sheets with lavendar scent.....that will give me 3 hours without waking up.. the blankets can't be too cold or too hot,..which is almost impossible to get perfect,....the pillows cant be too hard or too soft....i have at least 6 on the bed to choose from..... what the hell is wrong with me?

  Here is a product that is due to be approved by FDA soon...it is a low dose, very fast-acting "Ambien type" product that shouldn't have alot of the side effects of heavier strength product. It is being developed specifically for MOTN (middle of the night) awakenings. It might be worth asking your doctor about when it hits the market. Hope you find something that works...I have had the issue on occasion when I travel, and it is NO fun...

  I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I noticed that highdose mentioned that Reniaa was no longer here. I have been out of the country for a month or so...did Reniaa throw in the towel?...was she given an ultimatum by the Elders? Thanks!

  When Did You First Get Exposed To "Apostate" Info? How Did It Affect You?

  as a kid, i used to read all the watchtowers of the 40s and 50s to see how the present day information developed from its original "thought".

  i was exposed to many eye opening statements but i swept them under the carpet (although it stayed in the recesses of my brain) until the time was right.. so for me, it was a gradual thing.. how were you affected by your first encounters with "apostate" material?

  About 10 years after I was DF'ed (thus my name) I decided I wanted to prove or disprove my lingering feelings about the "Troof". I did a Google search which lead me to Randy's Free Minds website...that gave me alot of food for thought. I then read Ray Franz's Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom...that pretty much sealed the deal for me!

  How many Witness families do you know that still shun their children?

  my congregation had many teens that were disfellowshipped.

  none of them have been back to the meetings.

  they either got married or moved out of their parents home.. it saddens me that i haven't seen any of them at any family functions.

  I don't think the shunning has changed much over the years. I was DF'ed 15 years ago and my brother talks to me if it is about "family business", but no other time. His son is DF'ed and he has not spoken to him since the announcement. His mother will communicate via text message. I only have contact with my DF'ed nephew. My non-JW wife is absolutely appalled and disgusted by that behavior, so if they are trying to attract people to the Borg, they certainly are losing ground in bringing people to the "Truth" with these type of tactics...

  jws are supposed to be "busy" in the lord's work.

  if you're busy, you shouldn't be bored, right?

  One of the Governing Body had a stroke yesterday

  he's in very serious condition in the hospital.. that's all the information i have for now.. barb.

  its has been almost two decades if i am correct since ray franz released the heartbreaking books: "crisis of conscience" and "in search of christian freedom".

  since then, many of us have been released from bondage of the wts and set free.

  by the way, where is ray franz today, what is he doing?

  Just heard a great one from my JW brother...

  one of my nephews just was married and i was invited to the wedding on the day of the wedding (not the reception of course)!

  i thanked him for the invite but declined so as to not make the day uncomfortable for my nephew and his new bride.

  my other nephew (the brother of the groom), who is df'ed, went and said he was treated like a dead man walking.

  Thanks everyone!! Those are some terrific responses, and I will definitely use some of these suggestions...now it is just choosing among so many good ones

  I wish that I was ready when he said it, but i guess I didn't think he would stoop to the "come back even if you don't believe it" tactic...thanks again all.
