I agree with Satanus...when you are online, a person can represent himself as anyone! If you haven't watched it, check out NBC Dateline's "To Catch a Predator". Some online folks are very real and sincere, but there are alot of posers out there too...be very careful. If you have to meet him, do it in a public place like Starbucks...if he isn't exactly as he has portrayed himself, run! You are young enough that this won't be your last chance to find someone real and right for you.

My Boyfriend's not a Witness...
by Hikaru inalright, with my last post it should be obvious i'm in conflict...if it's not, then yeah.. my boyfriend is not a witness.
he understands that witnesses can't marry or date non witnesses.
but i guess could say we've been stalling...looking for a solution a gray area to that black and white situation...but with time getting as it is...stalling doesn't work anymore.

just a few questions I don't want to ask directly hell
by Janey214 inhello - first may i apologise for capital letters my keyboard has gone screwy.
for the last several months i have been having meetings with two really nice women from the jw organisation.
i don't want to offend anyone by asking these questions i am simply trying to better understand how the watchtower came about without listening to too much anti stuff.

Spike,
Sincere Christian thought and association is fine and good, but it doesn't address Janey's question. She wants to know whether JW's are prophets or scholars. The fact that JW's aren't allowed to use the Bible on its own is a HUGE red flag! If you truly believe that you need an aid and that the aid is the authority for understanding the Bible, then you would be no different than Mormons who feel the Book of Mormon takes precedence over the Bible if they don't agree. I hardly think they qualify as prophets...and though they may have some scholars at WT headquarters, I wouldn't classify them as a scholarly organization.
Janey,
You need to critically reason on the facts...all of them. Don't be led astry by talk of "feelings" or how nice people are. There are lots of very nice JW's...as there are nice Christians, Mormons, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and Atheists...being nice should not be the primary reason you embrace something as your roadmap for life. Keep searching until you feel you have enough facts to decide. There is no perfect religion, church or belief system that hangs its hat on a manmade philosophy or edict. The one thing I am sure of is that I run when I am told that a man can speak for God better than the Bible can!
Good luck in your research...I know you will find it illuminating.

Janey...welcome!
There have been numerous excellent postings of information on the history and doctrines of Jehovah's Witnesses. The one thing that really helped me to critically think on and examine the JW teachings had to do with the Bible itself. Most Christian denominations believe in the inerrancy of the Bible and say that it is the SOLE authority from God, inspired by him and nothing should be added or taken away from it...nothing else should be required to find answers about what God's purpose is for man.
Starting with Russell, the JW organization has taught that the Bible alone could not bring someone into a true understanding of God's purposes and requirements. Believers needed the interpretation of the Bible by the "Faithful and Discreet Slave". Russell said that if a person would only read the Bible, minus his commentaries and interpretations, they would be back in the same "spiritual darkness" as the rest of Christendom within a year's time. That philosophy has continued to this day, and the JW organization is adamant about discouraging "independent study".
I would ask your study conductor if the Bible is the ONLY authority you need to come into a relationship with God or if you need to also follow what the Faithful and Discreet Slave "feeds" you as additional "truth" that is given them as God's sole channel on earth...the answer might be quite illuminating.

Can someone help me?
by losthusband inhi - i'm new here so go easy on me!.
i've been lurking for a while trying to find out info on the jws.
some questions i have:.

losthusband,
OTWO makes a great point...read up on cults and get a balanced historical perspective on JW's. I personally think Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom, both by Ray Franz, are the best of this type of perspective. Use the internet to do your research (ie: JW FActs, Freeminds, etc.) and make notes on what you find. It is always difficult to think on your feet when you are "under the gun". Going two or three on one is a typical tactic that JW's use when they "answer" your questions...it helps them fill in the blank spots and puts you at a disadvantage to respond easily. Have notes handy and go one-on-one if you feel the need to have Q&A sessions with them. It might be useful to have your wife sit in under those circumstances, but I would avoid the scenarios where you have more than one person there to "help" you.
SOM,
I really wanted to believe you were trying to help losthusband, but what does the Wild Beast have to do with losthusband's problem?? It looks more like an attempt to hijack the thread so you can give your End Times plug. And you never answered my question...why assign a date to the Coming of God's Kingdom by saying you anticipate it this year?? Doesn't the Bible specifically say that "no man knows the day or the hour"??
Losthusband...use the tools you have available and keep focused on what you need to answer your questions...you will come up with the right answers.

Son of Man,
I think your advice is sound and reasonable, but I think you "jumped the shark" when you end your very reasonable advice with the comment that you are anticipating God's Kingdom to take over this year. Maybe you meant it in a manner other than how it sounded, but it did "smack" a bit of something you would hear from the WTBS and looking to a date rather than waiting on God. I hope I misunderstood and your observations can be credible and useful for our concerned dad.

Tell a minister why the Bible alone is not enough to reach jw
by carla inplease tell a minister why the bible alone is not enough to reach a jw.
i feel the language, doctrines, translation, etc..etc... all of it must be known as well as the bible.
please, serious answers only, thank you..

Fair enough Spike...you have to admit, it does sound a bit over the top regarding selectivity of translation use.

The Son in two persons
by Deputy Dog inthe wt and jws around the world have made the evil "trinity" their reason for existence.
when in fact they have quite a mystery of their own.
one son in two separate an distinct persons with two separate an distinct natures archangel michael/human jesus.. on another thread spike tassel tried to explain this by saying: .

booby,
All you will get is a "runaround" from Reniaa...she doesn't answer the question directly...and oftentimes, she doesn't answer at all. Trying to reason with the unreasonable is a no-win scenario. I have tried to present questions to her and Spike Tassel, and the questions are mt with silence or gibberish. Save yourself some frustration!

Good point glenstar...maybe that line of reasoning is why "not just any 'Bible' will do for a JW"!
