Three year old kid?!? If it was a tape recorder that was three years old named Miranda (that was made in Minnesota)...I might be convinced.

Kingdom Ministry...."Youths.. who will you put first in your life?"
by integ in1) our young ones are indeed a grand blessing in the congregation.
they often times assist elderly ones in the ministry, take on responsibility in the congregation, and also assist in the caring and maintenance of the kingdom halls.
but thoughtful youth also do well to ask themselves..."am i doing enough?".

Interpreting the Bible in it's cultural context
by logansrun ini have often engaged in debate on this forum in which i have taken the position that the only logical way of interpreting the bible -- and in being a genuine christian -- is to view it as being verbally inspired and binding in all it's details upon all christians down through the centuries.
this is, generally speaking, the way that fundamentalists and jehovahs witnesses view the scriptures; the bible "says what it means, and means what it says" case closed, no if's and's or but's!
i do not believe this and consider myself to be an agnostic, a point which i do not find necessary to elaborate on here.

logansrun,
I too have asked these questions and they are good questions.
When I was doing research on the treatment of the disabled by various churches, I questioned them about many scriptures that pertained to disability. These included slurs and disrespectful speech as well as blatant discrimination when selecting priests in the Old Testament. One of the pastors that I interviewed told me that these merely needed to be taken in historical context and that they did not reflect God's love but a period of time and culture.

Hi, I'm new to the site, and kind of don't understand...
by my-journey ini was just curious as to the aim of this website?
i thought it was a discussion board for those interested in/ for jehovah's witnesses, but it seems like you're all former jehovah's witnesses?
so is this site just to bash jehovah's witnesses?

Wow...hello...just a couple of things:
Many of my family are Jehovah's Witnesses. I love them. I do not hate them. However, with the respect they show me through shunning I know that they still love me too. Actually, I think that shunning people for no good reason, other than you might suspect that they are bad people (which are not really a good reason) is wrong. Yes "bad associations spoil useful habits" but rumors are also not good and it seems more Jehovah's Witnesses would like to hear rumors instead of the truth about people from people.
I believe this board is like a support group. You sound like you are studying still. Well walk yourself through these scenarios (they could happen to you...if you cannot let yourself really believe these can happen to you than you have not picked your faith very critically):
1) You find that the society has written something about the bible that you know to be false or that you are viewing differently from them. You, of course, write a letter to the society suggesting a change. They send you a letter saying not to tell anybody of this correspondence as they are letting it rest in Jehovah's hands. Semi put off by this but still faithful to Jehovah and the faithful and discrete slave, you decide to heed the words in the letter. Low and behold, a week or a month goes by and you are announced disfellowshiped. Where did you go wrong?
2) You find that one of your children or a child in Jehovah?s service has been molested. What do to? Well, conditionally you would report it to the elders and have them deal with the case. However, this time it was an elder who molested the child. Well, still with your faith in Jehovah and ?his organization?, you report it to the elders. They say they will take care of it. A week later you learn that the parents (who also knew about the molestation) have been disfellowshiped and they elder is still leading congregation services and in the field ministry. Unsurprisingly you also find that you have been disfellowshipped. Where did you go wrong?
I?m sure that other people on the board can also write scenarios for you to contemplate. Many of them are in the Personal Experience part of the board because they are true and they have lived through them.
Please think very critically about your decision as a Jehovah?s Witness. The way you are talking right now does not sound very open and non-judgmental. Can you honestly believe that you are the only one who believes so strongly about beliefs? Can you honestly believe that you are the only one who would die for their beliefs? Can you honestly say that people are treated equally within the society? Can you honestly believe that judging people is your job?
P.S. Good Post C. Rose

Dear Mark,
I believe there is some confusion. It is in death that I fear things to become stagnit and not change. It is in death that I fear loosing all of those things. Therefore, unless you (and others) have died, you have not lost like I fear loosing.

Anyway...i think it's like a roller coaster because once you've gotten on...you can't stop it...

Christianity, Capitalism, and Conquers
by forgetmenot inwhy is it that many of the people trying to take over the world (now and then) seem to be christians and promoters of capitalism?
why does the united states (a predominantly christian country) fear islam so much when for centuries christians have been terrorizing most of the world?
does christianity promote violence by being a 'house on a hill'?
