I had a guy talk to me about the witnesses in a night club on friday!!
by student1 inwhat a random turn of events, my jw housemate decided to show me she still liked me this friday.
she took me out for a rocking evening to celebrate my 2-1 result for my degree!.
this was rather nice as i had been getting increasingly jealous at the fuss others were making over her to make up for the horror of her best mate turning apostate!!

Why Platonic Relationships Are Doomed To Heartbreak- Your View
by nvrgnbk inlol!.
sorry, coco.
couldn't resist.

There not doomed, I'll paste what I put on the other thread about platonic relationships.
Two of my best friends are men and very loyal, they love me because of me and I am like a sister to them, I can rely on them for emotional support and they always help out around the home when I need something done.
I can talk to them both on just about everything, and feel more comfortable with them than I do with my women friends, they are unjudgmental and have my best interests at heart, one I was in love with and had a sexual relationship for years, that ended but we have remained good mates without any physical relationship and we have to much repect for each other to even think about it. The other guy is a talented poet, artist and a mentor to me, educated and interesting, talk to him for hours on anything, I know I can always get nothing but 100% honesty from him, there has never been an attraction between us, we simply love each others company and find each other intersesting. Neither are gay.
Cheers

Gluttony and Drunkenness
by journey-on ini knew several that got df'd for drunkenness but never anyone for gluttony.
as far as i can remember, in the bible there weren't categories or various levels of sin; and both these are mentioned as sinful.
last i looked, there were an awful lot of very obese witnesses in the congs.

Learning to fly...you make some very valid points. The smoking thing was something I had problems with for years, some people are more prone to addictions than others, and circumstances differ. People with anxiety disorders have a huge battle when problems arise and they have addictions or are prone to slip back into habits.
I think smoking was one of the good things that was made a no no. But on the other side I think that there should be more compassion and understanding rather than out right disfellowshiping, there is a difference between wickedness and weekness.

Reasoning with JWs using Galatians
by R.F. inone of the final death blows to my beliefs of wt doctrine was really pondering over galatians 1. paul was very clear and strong in saying that there should be no gospel preached than what they taught, and they taught the simple message of jesus christ coming to earth, dying in our behalf, and his resurrection.
the gospel that jehovah's witnesses preach is obviously very different.
they've put in elements that are no where to be taught by early christian leaders.. so my question is.... how many of you have used this reasoning with the witnesses?

I have learnt so much from Jesus preaching and what he came to earth for, his message was simple. "Love God with you're whole heart, mind and strength, and you're neighbour as yourself"
If people followed that simply law of love we would solve all our problems.
What Jesus taught on the sermon on the mount is priceless. Yet the witnesses never use it, or hardly use it. They pride themselves on being humble or meek, I find they delude themselves on this. How can one be meek and humble if they feel they have all the answers, they are right with everything, and they know their bible better than anyone, go around trying to prove points or win arguments and debates on everything from the immortality of the soul to hades, big deal, when the essence of the truth is simple and it is found in what Jesus taught.

Next FDS Stunt?
by sweet pea inshopoholic is of the opinion that friday's dc talk about obeying/following the faithful and (not so) discreet slave no matter what, is indicative of some dramatic stunt the fds are about to pull.
.
any suggestions as to what this might be?

Many of the ones brought up in the religion have no idea about the beginnings of the org; they dont know all the phony prophecies the mistakes and other issues, to them the FDS is like God, and as the days get long this evil slave will continue to put the breaks on anyone that has new light themselves.
The org is no place for truth seekers or light followers, it has become an abode for the spiritually sick.
The FDS or GB have become so far removed from holy spirit that all it can do now is try and cover their tracks.
There can't be any new light they have no source to get it. All they can do is add more rules and regulations go a little light on mundane things so it looks caring and concerned while shackeling the flock to the tower.

Not all witnesses do it to make deciples, I would like to think that myself and others I know are genuinly good people that do care about the well being of other, I think there are some Christians in the org, I do know what you are saying and that is sadly true of many but not all.

I find this very interesting, as I do have a family member in law, that is very very obesed and is not allowed privledges or to give a prayer. I have noticed that when these gluttony is mentioned it is usually mentioned with over indulgence in alcohol as the two are one, I really think that the GB is careful on the over eating gluttony and hard on the over indulgence alcohol.
I answered up in a book study that alcohlism and drunkedness are two very different things, one can be an alcoholic and not a drunk and the other can be a drunked but not an alcoholic, he just looked at me like he was overpowered by somebody that knew something so mundane but he didn't.
I drink but I'm not a drunkard, I was asked this by this elder a few times, how is youre drinking, I said I'm not a drunkard and walked away. They love to pick. I do know that the overuse of alcohol is a problem in the org; but those that have been honeset about it get picked on if seen coming out of a bottle shop even if they are only getting crisps or soda water, has happened to me.
On the other side of the debate this same elder was obesed that had a go at me.

At first I found some of his essays very interesting and got a bit out of them, after awhile I realised that he seems to be full of himself, and can be dangerous as some on his forum seem very young and impressionable. Though I have a similar viewpoint on Christ's presence and the evil slave, I have found reading Ezekiel far more inspiring than his essays.
I like to read some of the essays on perimeno.

Shammatta"Disfellowshipping" Jewish Style
by AuldSoul inmatthew 24:48-51 48 but if ever that evil slave should say in his heart, "my master is delaying," and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his part with the hypocrites.
there is where [his] weeping and the gnashing of [his] teeth will be.. insight on the scriptures, volume 1, p. 787, expelling.
finally, there was shammatta, an entire cutting off from the congregation.

Ok without haveing to start a new thread can I hyjack this one....
I ask a question to all the elders too. Did you feel superior to the average joe, being an elder and all, gee wiz you would sit on commitees and judge, listen to confessions, view service reports and come and visit us at times when our service was not at the GB status report.
Pray tell me what did you think of us...
