wasa, Robdar, kgb and the others are right. I've heard it said so many times: cold turkey is best. Of course I've never been able to do cold turkey, but I have cut my smoking way, way down by purchasing those cheapie, cheapie ciggies that are really foul tasting. That has cut my smoking at least in half or more.
Something else. If you use those pills, know that insurance will pay for them if you get them prescribed as Wellbutrin, an antidepressant. If these same pills are prescribed as Xyban, an antismoking preparation, the insurance companies will not pay. Same exact pills, even look the same, but prescribed for different things are or are not paid for by what's on the prescription. Strange, huh? But that's the way the insurance pickle squirts.

But they HAVE claimed, many time, to be prophets. They have said that they, "act as a prophet" and all sorts of phrases like this all amounting to a claim of being prophets. They can't get around this claim. They did it.

I like it too. Makes perfect sense to me. In fact, it's beautiful in its own way, and way more appealing that that dogmatic JW stuff. I'm for it.

Doubting Thomas - A Real Hero !
by Amazing inhave you longed to at least get some response from god, some small indication from him that he really listens, cares, or is just simply there?
the vast majority on this forum have likely struggled with many issues regarding god,
christ, the bible, history, truth, religion, the foundations of christianity, agnosticism, and atheism.

Be careful what you ask for.
I did the exact same thing back in 1983. And I didn't ask for much. Just some kind of minor proof that He existed.
It wasn't long after that late one night when I was engaged in meditation that He made himself known to me. Rather, I stopped standing on my end of the "hose" that connected Him with me. I realized in that short burst of communication that all along it had been ME that had kept communications at a standstill, that God had always been right there waiting for me to knock.
My experience was that connecting with the indweller was a matter of what I stopped doing rather than what I began doing. Thus it is true that the yoke of the Master is easy and his load light. I was amazed. Still am. Still have a really hard time putting it into words.
I have had three of these experiences, what I call experiences with the "Light" and the last one was quiet a few years ago.
I've never had a conversation with God. God doesn't and didn't speak to me, and he didn't speak to me when the above-described transaction happened. I don't have words to properly describe it. It's nothing like AGuest claims, nothing at all. But I'm inwardly certain that I touched the Divine Lover that lives within my heart/mind and it really did impart a peace beyond understanding and many other things.
And I'm just as certain that you, any of you, can have this very experience if you really want to. It does take a high level of sincerity of pursuit, but it is available, and that's what Jesus meant when he said, "the kingdom of heaven is within you." Yep. It's there alright. And you can touch it if you like. But it isn't going to happen like you think it should; it's not going to fulfill some time-limited, space-bound product of the imagination. Remember what you're trying to do: make contact with the existential creator of the Universe of Universes, the maker of ALL that we call real. It ain't like getting a telephone call from your Aunt Fanny. But if you want the experience you can have it. I'm living proof.
Go for it.

Actually, one of my ex-elder friends and I have discussed at length how easy it would be for us to go somewhere we're not known, take some literature at the door, arrange for a study, and knowing what we know already to become "rocket asses" that is moving rapidly through the ranks to become elders in short order.
Then, we'd pick out the most beautiful and eligible woman available and take her home as our "help mate" (translated into the English as "main squeeze").
And again, since we know the ropes to a T, we could fake it as long as we could take it. We'd have the highest positions available in the congregation, the best women, in short - we'd play the system for all we were worth.
Now, the question is: would it be worth it? And after a lot of soul searching, I have arrived at the answer --> Hell No.
Would you do it?

Just Another Issue
by MrMoe ini know right now you are sitting behind a computer, so you would be considered (at least by me and millions of others world over) to be... well... lucky.
here is where you react with your personal problems which are rather petty (sorry not trying to be rude here) life situations that amount to a hill of beans, barring extreme life circumstances, compared to say, that one guy who wears rags and talks to himself on the corner of main and broadway.
huh?

These people may never have said, "One day I want to be a homeless person," but I suspect that these people are where they are today due to a series of bad decisions made by them over the years. The cumulative effect of these decisions is as you describe it.
In addition, during the administration of Jimmy Carter, it was decided that keeping the marginally mentally ill in treatment centers violated their civil and human rights. So Carter decreed they be released. And many, many of them continue to live on the streets.
I don't think there are any simple answers to this problem. I've heard it said so many times that "you can't solve a money problem with money," and I believe this to be the burden of this thread. Sure seems like it to me. I personally feel that absent a unified approach across the states, administered by professionals in the field, we will make little progress with this problem.
In Atlanta a few years ago, a study done by Georgia State University social science students, disclosed that most of the squeegie men, and the "I will work for food" guys were taking an average of two hundred dollars a day from passers-by. That's better than any social program is going to provide.
It's a Hobson's Choice anyway you look at it.

DON'T go to this site. There is a link there that leads you to another site that's got a picture of Jesus. Yep. It's another picture of Jesus as the Savior From Norway.

I have always thought that AGuest would do well to get on a massive daily dose of Sonoquel and stay on it. Coupled with that anti-schizo drug, I think daily conversations with a post doc psychiatrist might work wonders.
At all times when not in conversation with the psychiatrist, AGuest should be contained in a suitably padded room with a 24/7 guard. If God wants AGuest out, God can see to it.
