Hell, Dawg...life ain't always pretty.
You gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes to wake people up. Does anyone enjoy being awakened in the middle of a deep sleep? No. Does that mean we need to let people go though life unconscious?
No...it ain't pretty, but at least it's real.

OK, let me explain....
by dawg inso, the last few threads i've written have been about telling your families and friends how you feel; many of you have given me the reasons you don't speak out to your families, but i want to tell you the main reason you should.
please let me explain.... .
i keep on stressing this point because how it makes you feel, i'm telling you all, that for over 19 years, i let information about my thoughts out slowly, then the tipping point... at my uncle's funeral 2 february's ago, while listening to my family pontificate at dinner about who so and so is pioneering and the like, it hit me that i was sick to the core of them throwing their bullisi*t beliefs at me like i was inferior or something.

"If the prophets of old pointed to the silence of the gods they mocked as proof of their impotence/nonexistence, and it was recorded in the Bible to strengthen faith in their god, why is the modern day silence of their god ignored as insignificant?"
Silent to whom?

To slay a demon you have to face a demon.
I don't care if it's in the kingdom hall, the public square, or the bathtub...eventually, you have to face your demons to kill 'em. I think any self-respecting man or woman HAS to respect another for telling it like it is - and getting himself squared away. It might even inspire some.

I didn't intend to be helpful. "Were the Hebrew prophets that mocked foreign deities hard-hearted and bitter in their disbelief or were they just showing that they considered those gods to be powerless, existing only in the imagination of their servants?"
I don't know, Nvrgnbk. I wasn't there. Why don't you tell me as "mocking" seems to be more your cup of tea. It seems strange that you would assume the modus operandi of that which you condemn.

"Will you reveal Him to us, Rabbi?"
No.
Anger.
27Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. 30They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. (Mt 27)

Wow...You have a regular cheerleading section.
You believe you're at peace. Your expletives tell another story. You're right though...a narcissistic, egomaniac god only exists in the minds of those who love or hate him. They subject themselves to a non-existent thing and then hate themselves for participating in the unreality. Odd.
The true God is none of those.

Does Wearing Your Nations Uniform Automatically Ensure a High Moral Ground?
by hillary_step ini realize that the contents of this thread may enflame the passions of those on all sides of the house.
if your sensibilities are easily damaged, you take yourself to seriously, or your humor is wanting, then be warned this may not be the thread for you.. i have been reading with interest a thread on this board today that is discussing the treatment of us veterans.
i have noticed that when such subjects are discussed there is an automatic assumption that those who don the uniforms of their respective nations, they somehow are automatically walking on a higher moral ground.. i find it all the more puzzling that those who cry the loudest for 'special' treatment for soldiers, and by special i mean as compared to the rest of the working masses, seem to be of an republican bent.

No school for you: confirmation of CO outline on education
by raindog ini just spoke with my dad after he returned from an elders meeting.
the co did say that elders would have to step down from their positions if they supported their child getting an education.
the reasoning behind this is that an elder is encouraging their children to attend college, they would not be able to counsel the rank and file on the issue.

The watchtower society has the means to build a system of colleges the way the Mormons have. I would think that IF they find any benefit to higher education (read: offspring of certain GB members); it would behoove the powers-that-be to create a safe and contained system of colleges or universities for their benefit.

Pathological President defends Iraq War
by nvrgnbk inbush defends iraq war in speech by steven lee myerspublished: march 20, 2008washington president bush used the fifth anniversary of the start of the war in iraq on wednesday to make the case for persevering in a conflict that could have many more anniversaries.
democrats accused him of lacking a strategy to win and withdraw.. mr. bush, speaking before members of the armed forces and defense officials at the pentagon, said in his frankest acknowledgment yet that the costs of the war, in lives and money, had been higher and longer lasting than he had anticipated.
but he remained unwavering in his insistence that the invasion of iraq, which began in march 2003, had made the world better and the united states safer.. "five years into this battle, there is an understandable debate over whether the war was worth fighting, whether the fight is worth winning, and whether we can win it," he said.

"That is very true.
Too bad it wasn't presented that way to the American people.
It appears that Cheney said it best when he vocalized the administration's opinion on public resistance to the war..." So?" "
True enough, Nvrgnbk. But the idea was to take the intel that was most convincing and use that to convince congress that an attack was the most viable option. It ought to have been "sold" as it was: with multiple benefits. But it wasn't...and now the admin will have to answer for their lack of candor.
"The saddest thing that could happen is if some strong armed religious tyrant was to take over the county and turn the clock back decades and greatly repress the citizens."
And that's what the administration is trying to avoid, Homerovah. I'm not a big fan of "nation-building." I've often said it's like handing an ape a hundred-dollar bill. But you never know.
