I'm totally excited!
by coolhandluke inwhen i interviewed for my position my now boss asked me why i didn't have a degree.
my mind filtered out "well you see sir i wasn't allowed to go to college and without that hope basically glided through high school and then went to a trade school so that i could eat.
" instead i told him that it was one of my major goals.

Wayne go man. IM in the IT feild myself right now. Workin on my bachelors. I would give a bit of advice. I would try to go to a local college instead of university of Pheonix. I knew a few people that hated it. Plus im sure a college in your state would have their administration program online. Alot of it has to do with accreditation-meaning, if you wanted to transfer your classes to another college, they most likly woudnt except them comming from U of pheonix, where as if you went to an actual college, their classes would more likley transfer to another college. I have also heard employers dont value those online universitys as much as actual colleges. Just my 2 cents though.
Congrats on the job though

Hello everybody
by JulieM inhi everybody, my name is julie, and this is my first post.. i'm a third generation jw, or at least i was until a two weeks ago, when i was announced as no longer a jw.
i'm really happy about that, ecstatic in fact, although i'd been a jw all my life, and i'm 37 now.
i could have disassociated like my friends, but i couldn't be bothered to play their chikdish game, so i let them do it for me.

Welcome,
I was kind of, not exactly though in the same bout as you. My girl who Im with now was raised a witness but had been out for years when I started dating her. Being with her really shined some light on me. I realized that there are some really good non-jw people out there. Made me realize you have to actually get in the water to judge whether it is cold or not. Iv also read COC. It was a good read. In the middle of In Search of Christian freedom. We'll see where that goes.
Cheers

My Belief in a Higher Power But Not in any Organized Religion
by flipper inhello folks.
i feel i've been out of the witness organization long enough to have developed some pretty good idea of what my beliefs are now in regards to a higher power and organized religion that i felt comfortable to share it with you , my friends here on jwd.
i respect you all have your takes, religious and non- religious, but just wanted to share a little of myself with you folks , wondering if any of you have felt what i feel.

I somewhat agree with you. I firmly beleive there is something higher/a creator. I took a biology 2 class in the spring. IT just reaffirms this. The complexity of life could not just happen.
I have a question though. IF you do beleive in a higher being, do you beleive in the bible?
What I am really having a tough time with at this point in my life is, doesnt there have to be something that has God's backing? If its not the JW's, then who?

I have a Teamspeak server...and an idea...
by deaconbluez infor those of you who don't know, teamspeak is a free voice server program.
very simple to use.
i thought it would be a good idea to set aside a time once a week and invite whatever anonymous lurkers onto the teamspeak server, as well as whoever from jwd who would like to address their questions/issues.

How Honest Are You Really???
by minimus inhere's the scenario: you buy an item and it's on sale for 10% off the original price.
a new cashier charges you, instead of 10% off, 10 cents!
this happened to a woman who bought a leather coat among other things and when she reviewed her slip she knew absolutely that the new cashier messed up.

hmmm. This is a good one. I am a pretty honest guy. I would have to say Id go back. But, then again, that could change if I was in that situation.

Totally. I am still a little hazy on things. But, I was telling this exact same thing to someone the other day. Ever since I had questions, I have done more research and reading then I ever had in my whole time as a witness. I also said that its crazy to think how many of my peers were like me and basicly stupid in what we knew about the religion. We basicly just take anything that comes to us, no questions asked, cause why would we have to question the GB, they are speaking from GOD.
I would love to have real chats with my friends who are still strong. But, I know as soon as I did the sooner I would be cut off.

Got to go to the Florida V. Tennesee game this past saturday. IT was AWSOME. wasnt much of a game cause the vols didnt show up to play. BUt, I was just glad the Gators did what they were supposed to do. But, during the game I was wondering, what if someone on here was at the same game. Just wondering.

Did you ever choke while offering prayer?
by Jourles inof all the times i was called upon to say prayer, i only remember choking once - but it was such a big choke i totally embarrassed myself for days on end afterwards.
and this one time wasn't even at the kh, it was in a home right before we were going to pre-study the wt.. there were roughly 3 elders, their wives, and some other close friends of mine in the living room.
i'd say there were around 10 of us total.

NO, but one time for saturday feild service, I dont know why or how I made it, but I was so hungover and probly still slightly drunk from the night before. Of all the times, the conductor asked me to conclude with prayer, I had no idea what I was saying, then just ended the prayer with AMEN. no through jesus or anything. I got done then everyone just look at me. I was like oh crap. Did feel a little bad about it. But, have laughed about about it many times.

Life on the doors now
by wherehasmyhairgone inthe last time i went on the field service was around the very early 90's.
i have a genuine question for any jw that are active in the door to door work still.. i lived for finding the person that wanted to debate things, i would always be the one to call on the local atheist, vicar, etc etc.
and would hammer home all that was had learnt and research myself with the wts literature of course.

Its been a few months for me since iv been out. But, of my whole time of going out I remember there being the typical doors. There were people who were extremly opposed and wanted you off the property, people who would take the mags but would not develop into anything, a select few that were actually intrested and then another select few that would debate. I beleive it has been like that for some time now, at least since iv been in. The only thing that I think is different is that more people are aware of the witnesses and their beleifs.
