Long last letter to dad...please comment-not mailed yet
by dawg indad, .
i doubt youll even read this letter since it comes from your son, a son youve abandoned over your religious views, but i wanted to write you one final letter to see if theres any hope that you can come to your senses as far as this religion goes and we can renew our relationship.
im doing this because i care for you and mom deeply and feel very much distressed that you two refuse to see anyones opinion as being factual other than your own when it concerns the jw religion.

My Introduction
by bgurl81 ini've been lurking on this website for quite some time, but haven't quite gotten the strength to post until now.
for obvious reasons, i cannot reveal my identity.
although my "family" nows that i am no longer a witness and celebrates holidays, they still have "hope" for me.

Welcome and Hello,
I can somewhat relate to your story, except that I would be on the other foot of the issue with your husband. Its been going on a year since iv been out, but my wife has been out going on 6 or 7 years. She like you has never looked back and picked up the "worldly celebrations" with joy as she has extended family that was never "in". I on the other hand cant seem to get my mind around being able to celebrate birthdays and stuff. I dont care how many people tell me its ok, I still cant get myself to do it. But, I think iv come to the conclusion that its not that I think its so wrong, its that I just dont care. I could care less about havin a birthday party or gettin a christmas present. Its never been apart of my life, so for me why should I try to throw it in there. Maybe thats how your husband feels as well. I would suggest maybe instead of havin a birthday party with presents. Just make it a special weekend and hang out with friends.
As for moving on in religion. Again, I would say I am in the same boat as he is in. As a dub your are taught that this is the truth the whole truth and nothin but the truth. When you start to have doubts, the cards start to fall and you think if this was THE religion and now its now then nothing must be, but a little peice of you still tries to hold on that everything you were taught was right. At least thats the way I feel.
Wish I could offer more assistance, but, just letting you know, his situation is not untypical.
Welcome again

Witness Kids - Scared silly by the WTBTS
by misspeaches ini wonder if anyone else who grew up as a jw can relate with me on this subject.. i grew up hearing stories of 'faithful brothers & sisters' being tortured to a point where they were almost dead.
all they had to do to be set free was renounce jehovah and their religon.
the stories i heard of torture were graphic in nature and to this day i can not handle hearing about torture or watch it being portrayed in movies.

I was not so much scared by the stories. I was more scared of not being good enough to make it to paradise and being dead forever. I remember only being around 7 or 8 and worrying about that. IMO, thats not something a little kid should be worrying about.

computer question
by rekless inxp home edition 10 gigs there are 1.8 gigs free.
there are two users listed, now i have log on to both and cleaned out the files that are shared, still no improvement.. over the past year it has added vitual memory a couple of times; therefore, i assume (i know the joke) it moves some memory from one section to another and i am running out of memory.. if i removed one would it free up some hard drive?.
if so, how do i remove one of the users?.

sounds like a time to upgrade. 10GB's, while it still is a decent amount, its just not enough these days.

JW spanking their kids
by asilentone inwhat do you think about jw spanking their kids at the kingdom hall?
-
TIMBOB
Beating your kids = totally wrong
Give you kids a good spankin = good punishment
I think a spankin is the best way to punish kids. AGAIN, not till their butt is black and blue, but only to serve as a correction. I got plenty of spankins as a kid and I turned out great.
It just took someone beating the crap out of their kids to ruin it for everything. NOWadays, if a person touches their kids people scream. People are afraid of their own kids it seems like.
Now, I dont know where you lookin around, but I see TOO many disrespectful kids these days and in my opinion, it goes back to lack of discipline.
ITS MOTHER NATURE. you look at animals and how they treat their own young. They dont hurt em, but when they act up they let em know they are wrong. I doubt you have ever seen a bear put her cubs in time out.
I agree that not all kids are the same and respond to different types of discipline. I also agree that kids are kids and you cant expect them to be quit for hours 3 nights a week for meetings.
But, IMO spankins when used properly are for the best.
IM PAUL HARVEY
And that the rest of the story.

judgemental
by megaflower ini was wondering if many of you have felt the same way.
when i was a practicing jw i found myself either being judged or i found myself being overly critical of others.
it seemd the more miserable i became the more critical i was and i found this disturbing.

of everything. The dates, blood, UN, ect. issues. This is the thing that drove me away. The witnesses are the most Judgmental people I have EVER met. Where I have seen that they really judge peopel is meeting attendence. I swear you could be a murdering, molesting alcoholic, but as long as your are going to meetings, ur ok. Now if you miss meetings or just not going, your considered bad meat. Since I have stopped going, so many people and a few family members have got on to me, If you love Jehovah then you would go to meetings. I retort and say where does it say in the bible that Jehovah commands us to go to meetings. But, you cant blame em though. Meeting attendence is ingrained in their minds. Without em, one can not be "saved".
But, yes I agree they are VERy judgmental and let me not forget some HUGE gossipers. I think its funny that SLANDERING someone is right up there with murder, its in the same scripture, yet no one thinks twice about it. A person will degrade someone's charactor with no backing and NOTHING will happen. I can go on and on.

You will find that many scholars beleive the KJV to be a horrible translation. If I were you, I would not be using it to compare to the NWT. Maybe someone else can give you a good translation to use if your wanting to double check the societies work.
Cheers
