Reading, listening to music
on physical side that would be wushu
just releasing some steam, but i'm going to be missing my siblings wedding this summer due to the fact i'm dfd.
my sibling invited me but i can't justify the travel expense (across the country) to observe a 20 minute ceremony and then go to a motel alone while everyone is stuffing their faces.. i just hits at the core of human relationships and is so divisive, but that is the point.
after months of no communication, my mother calls me this week to remind me of what i'm missing out on.
I boggles my mind how few old farts up in Brooklyn can so effectively separate families through a proxy.
every so often it is mentioned that donations are decreasing.
i have never heard that directly from the publications or from the platform.
this is the only place where i have seen this claim.. is there anything factual to this?
Well then, I don't have exact reference but I'm pretty sure that either Russel or Rutherford had said that when money stops coming in that will be the sign that Jehvoah has stopped giving his blessing. I wonder what they would say about that now :)
i never was baptize as a jw.
i use to study with them for years, i even went as for as becoming a unbaptize publisher.
i gave up being a publisher because i did not feel genuine in my efforts to preach.
Spirituality can take many forms. For me personally that is reading book, going to theater/opera/ballet or just sitting by the campfire watching the stars.
i just read the thread on how many jw's were in "happy" marriages and it got me thinking...there is so much divorces, so many families in and out of the org.
that break up over stupid stuff.
we complain how mothers/fathers/friends cut you off because of different beliefs.... wouldn't divorces also be on "conditional" love?
FF, I think there is a lot to be said about conditional love, and I share your sentiment about the marriage. In my view it has contractual connotation combined with non-disclosure agreement. Hence, any "love" that exist in many marriages resemble mutual comfort rather than love. Once the comfort has gone love has gone as well. Which makes you wonder if it ever existed in the first place. Interestingly enough, marriages now resemble more ad more business agreements in its entirety from prenuptial agreement to legal union termination.
Hence, "conditional" love is indeed conditional i.e. it lasts as long as interests are upheld. I can't imagine myself ever putting through similar thing again. There can possibly be a few happy marriages around but they are rarity and usually you hear that those are soulmates who recognize each others inner vibrations even when no words are spoken. Considering how many people really care about internal feelings of another human being I'd say we shell see less and less of happy marriages and more and more of business contracts.
ok we all have stories of "window-cleaners" but some of us had other kinds of work - that you got payed for (slave labor excepted).
so what kinds of things have you done?
what did you enjoy?
My father-in-law gave up his $15 an hour job working for General Dynamics in Fort Worth to take a $5 an hour job building trailers in a large warehouse! The "neutrality" issue stripped his family of enough finances to keep their head above water! This sort of thing really gets me very angry when I think about it!!
Terry, few years ago there was a case of someone here who was a Major General in the army who had only 6 moths of service left before retiring when he decided due to brainwashing that Armageddon was just around the corner and got demoted, his pay was cut to a minimum which then later served as a basis of his pension. The pathetic thing about it was that he couldn't leave the army and those 6 months served as clerk, a deskman dressed in military uniform doing military papers. Which according to watchtower makes no difference.
what are the top 5 books you would either recommend and/or have had the greatest influence on you?
