Honest Questions About Child Abuse
by Richard Oliver ini have two honest questions for everyone here.
i understand that most here want retribution from the courts against watchtower for child abuse allegations.
but let us take away the instances where someone was accused of child abuse and then later put back into a position of authority, such as an elder or an ms. let us just take the cases where a regular publisher or even an appointed person, with no previous accusation of child abuse has come up against that person.

Hi Richard, many are trying to change the laws. Have you seen the ARC, I think this will have a big effect.
However why should not the WT pay for their gross mismanagement of warning people of pedophiles in the congregation. I have known many affected by the lack of transparency - this has led to multiple serial offences when it could have been prevented simply by showing logic and the correct love.
For example, elders are not permitted to warn the parents of children if a pedophile moves into the congregation. These people may need help but why are they allowed to assocaite with the children and fuel their problem?
It was blatently obvious in the ARC that not only are their procedures flawed, but they don't give a stuff about their own people. Every other religion is being forced to pay for and help the victims, why should the WT be exempt.

Fading or Disassociating
by Saethydd inhello, i'm new here.. i'm a college student who has been raised in the "truth" for my entire life.
i was baptized at 10 years old, and looking back now i know i didn't fully grasp everything involved, for one thing i don't even recall ever going to jehovah in a special prayer to dedicate myself to him, but anyway that's the past and my focus is really on the present.
i'm currently pursuing an associates degree, but i find myself desiring to pursue a bachelors in my chosen field so that i may have a somewhat more secure future.

Hi Saethydd
I am always so excited when I hear about young people waking up, especially knowing they are going to college and getting an education.
Congratulations, it is a big journey and it sounds like you have just started. You will be amazed how deep the programming is with this religion.
We chose the fading route due to family and also being well known in a city. It also has it's challenges and you still face the "family crap" even when you are not DF'd. Regardless for us I still feel it is better not to be treated like a leper because we have such a big family.
All the best with your journey.

Disassociation - shunning - can we all lobby Government that it is against freedom of religion?
by stockholm_Syndrome inif jws want to inflict shunning on members who want to remain -- knock yourselves out.
but if someone wants to leave - dont believe in an evil almighty god, bible ...or just dont agree with the rules- they should be free to leave- even after being 'disfellowshipped'.
i think it was pre 1980 that you could disassociate yourself without shunning repercussions.

Hey Stockholm, forget about the articles, go and get the elders manual from the ARC site, it is there in the evidence as a full download. It will tell you everything you need to know.
You can also find some WT letters to the elders on some sites that direct no man can be appointed if they are in touch with their DF'd children.

the future for the borg
by pepperheart init look very possible that the borg could lose their charity status in both the uk and oz if this happens the jw will not have all the tax breaks for the buildings that they have now.and that the headquarters will have to start finding extra money.and as they have done so much cost cutting anyway these past years i think they will have to start selling kingdom halls off.

God's word-the publications?
by notalone inokay, so i have a friend that still interacts with my family.
she is going through some difficult times, so i suggested she just read some of psalms.
she became a little agitated and said she would just listen to the mags.

No I have not heard this, but I know when I have quoted scripture and asked for an explanation, that I may as well be quoting from a fashion magazine.
They also seem to quote "scripture" that is not there now. My mum confuses watchtower terminology with scripture all the time. Also they are using scriptures less now in the articles and resorted to quoting just a few words from a scripture.

Angry and scared
by BlackWolf ini feel like everything that comes out of my mothers mouth is something negative and cringe worthy.
all she seems to talk about with me is how terrible and demonic our disfellowshipped relatives are, how horrible the world and holidays are, or how she is so much better and "holier than thou".
it really makes me sick sometimes.

Blackwolf, you are 18 and have so much life ahead of you. Take the opportunity of youth and set yourself up. There are so many great things to experience out in the "bad" ole world. They want to make you feel like you have no options but believe me you being awake at this age is wonderful. You are very fortunate not to lose your early years to this thing. Even if you don't want to get a degree - educate yourself in ways of money and investing, learn to work hard and learn. Please don't get baptized, live your life and become the best person you can be. PM me anytime you want to chat.

Where Does It Say JWs Can't Read Pubs By Other Churches?
by Cold Steel incan jws read publications by other churches?
or by atheists?
i've always heard these are apostate materials.

Well you can get DF'd for listening to Christian Music. It's in the elders book. So they can write songs about a cart, but we can't sing praise music. Totally screwed!

Well, the Apostasy Accusations Begins...
by Sorry inso, it finally happened.
the first time i have been called out for being an apostate.
it started out innocently enough: my family and i were watching a tv show.

Hey I can totally relate to your frustration but as Smiddy and others have stated, that kind of discussion will never open their eyes.
I have the same with my in-laws. Totally unreasonable and we now regret the past conversations, because anything we say now gets blocked by their brain.
If you want to help yourself and them, try find peace by venting somewhere else.
It is definitely easier said than done - I get "the rage" a lot still. I don't know if you still believe but I am praying for God's peace to be with you.
