How many will bother going to the bookstudy between now and January?
by DT inif i were still in, i would find it hard to be excited about going to the book study now that i know it is doomed.
the revelation book has already been hashed to death.
the silly five finger death grip illustration doesn't apply any more.

They will probably still count it as 5 meetings.

The letter of changing the book study
by JWRESEARCH ini had a second and a third chance to read the famous letter.. here a few details.
it starts by saying we are in the last days and those who oppose are making things more difficult.
adds that the gb wants to follow the 1st century example (not to add more burden) and quotes acts 15:5,28. mention the raise of gas price (and the dificulties of some families) and suggest to use the free night to family study.

So where is their faith in Jehovah? People in foreign countries walk hours to get the meeting (I've seen it first hand). People have died for the right to serve Jehovah and they are talking about gas prices? They want to imitate the 1st century example? Didn't they claim to already be doing this? It just really gets me that more people don't realize this is not God's organization.
I sooooo badly want to tell people about this change. Its so difficult to remain

Who CONFIRMED the BIG announcement about the Book Study?
by Alligator Wisdom inthis seems to be the topic of the week, if not this year.. out of the many points and countless threads about this topic, many have been speculative and of the reminiscing sort.
i was wondering how many confirmations we have about this.
there were only a few that sounded like confirmations that i found posted on this site.

I have several close relatives that are the PO at there congregation. I'm tempted to call and ask. But I'll just wait until Sunday. I wonder if its worth going to the meeting to hear it first hand?

Why do we get stumbled out of JW's because of imperfect people?
by reniaa ini see this a lot on this forum, loads of people saying they left jw's because of "hypocritical ....... ( put elder, pioneer, couple, sister, brother, governing body) here.. but?.
why would you expect any man-run organisation if you believe the bible, to have to be perfect and not be full of imperfect people that will come across as hypocritical?.
the bible examples from israelites onwards name anyone :- moses, king david, pharasees, paul the one thing the bible doesn't do is white-wash them it shows that however much we follow the laws we are always fighting our own imperfection usually failing every time and needing to be corrected sometimes punished (moses had to give-up chance of seeing the foretold land), so why do we hold this against jw's as a reasons not to be a jw's anymore?.

Imperfection is no excuse once you've claimed a special position with God
Exactly. I could not have said it better.

I don't think people get stumbled out because of the people. I think the people are the main reason way most JWs stay in the org.
Once you've determined that most (if not all) of what you believed your whole life is not true with respect to the teachings of JW, its very difficult to live a life of pretending. You basically have nothing to hold on to but the relationships that you built with other JWs. Once these relationships have detoriated, whats the point in staying? To serve God, to apply bible principles? You don't need a religion to do that.

book recommendations?
by Switch inmissinglink and i read steven hassan's combatting cult mind control.
it appears that the moonies and other cults use similar lingo to the jw's like truth and worldly people, etc.
and shunning, recruiting new ones and many other concepts are comparable.

Tell them to watch "The Truman Show" and "The Village". Most witnesses don't read much anyway.
Interesting that you should say that. I was thinking of starting a thread on The Village earlier today. There is so much in common with the JW when you watch that movie.

Your most memorable Kingdom Hall meeting disruptions!

the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.

1) A sister busted into the bookstudy (it was in a private home so they left the door unlocked) and starting going off about one of the pioneers sisters sleeping with her husband.
2) Two sisters had a drag out fight at the special day assembly in the main hall over some seats. We could not believe it. They broke them up and then they starting going at it again. One sister cursed like a sailor during the fight. Of course, the CO came out on the platform and gave a few words.
3)A young brother who had the bible reading did not read it but he sang it. The brothers didn't stop him. The folks that were not paralyzed from shock excused themselves because they were laughing so hard.
4)A foreign doctor came to the sunday meeting and raised his hand and gave a comment at the meeting. He mentioned that he worked with underprivileged families and was looking for volunteers to help his cause. The brothers eventually took the mic from him and he quieted down for awhile. Then he just started talking..."Excuse me, Excuse me"...and started talking out loud. I don't remember exactly what he said.
5) A sister went into labor during the meeting.
6)Someone fainted during the CO's visit. It was during the summer and the AC was out.
7)A sister's skirt fell down while she was doing a field service demonstartion. She was wearing a slip. She ran off the stage. Her householder ran after her with her skirt.
8)There was all these girls going back and forth to the restroom and signaling each other in the meeting. Turns out there was young sister was in the restroom for most of the meeting and telling the other teenagers that Jehovah was not real and that they were wasting their life with the JWs. About half-way through the service meeting, there was a special annoucement that no one under 18 was allowed to go the restroom alone. The brothers then asked the girl's mother not to bring her to hall as her daughter obviously had a demon.

I really tried but never did. I use to really admire folks that would truly rely on Jehovah because they loved him so much. I very rarely prayed to him and knew that if we hit persecution, I would be one those that would denounce him for my freedom or my life.
I remember when a JW family came over with their children. The JW father asked his child who did she love more him or Jehovah. She said Jehovah. Everyone was so impress that a 3-year-old had established such loyalty. Its like they didn't realize that this 3-year-old she didn't have a reason for loving Jehovah and she was simply repeating what her parents told her.
This is true event that happened when visiting my sister. We were cooking in the kitchen and her daughter was on the floor doodling with her crayons. I guess she wanted to demonstrate her teaching skills. During a lull in our conversation, she started talking to her 4-year-old.
My sister: Lina, who do you love more - Jehovah or mommy?
Lina: Mommy
My sister: No, you love Jehovah more. Lina, who do you love more - Jehovah or mommy?
Lina: Mommy.
My sister: No Lina, you're suppose to love Jehovah more than me and more than Daddy.
Lina: More than my grannies too?
My sister: Yes, more than your grannies too. So who do you love more than anyone else?
Lina: Hmmm.......Auntie Shopoholic? (this absolutely true...I want to LOL but I just maintained that pioneer half-smile)
My sister: (walksover and kneels down to be on eye level with her daughter) No, Lina. When someone asks you who love the most you're suppose to say Jehovah. Okay, so it's Jehovah that you love the most. So you do you love the more that than anyone else?
Lina: ...Jehovah?
My sister: That's riiiiiight. You love Jehovah more than else anyone else.
Lina: Mommy, you love Jehovah more than me and daddy?
I've seen other conversations similar to this one during my time with the JWs and sometimes it was with an adult bible student. Its not really a feeling for most JWs, its just a "fact" that they love Jehovah more than anything. I never remember my mom having that conversation with me. Maybe that's why I would later end up on JWD
