Great letter. I agree on correcting the typos but I don't think they would notice.
For what it's worth, I don't think writing a DA letter means that they have any power over you. It's just one way of saying you don't want to play their game anymore and thus you remove their perceived power over you. I applaud your courage.

Snowbird, its was the same for some of the teens in our congo. They were required to do so many hours of community service as part of their senior year. They tried to use the preaching working but the school denied it. The parents complained and so the school supervisor asked them to submit paperwork of how it qualified as community service. Even that was shot-down.
The JW teens had to actually help at food banks, etc. The brothers told them if they preached to someone or placed a tract then they could also count it as field service time because it was just Satan just trying to get them out of the ministry.
If they could find a loophole to get some money for preaching, I'm sure they would.
i live in so cal and got to tell you women are leaving in droves out here...is it a caly thing or are simply women bored out of their minds listening to their mate and his friends presentations week in and week out?

So funny I almost choked on my food. Plus people are throwing awaying their glasses everyday...have they not heard of Lasik vision surgery? I know several JWs that had it and were criticized for not waiting on the new world.

Back in the year 1925 the suggestion was set out in the leading article of the WatchTower issue of May 1, entitled "For the Elect’s Sake," that "those days" of the "great tribulation" were cut short in the middle. The explanation was given that the "great tribulation" had begun in 1914 C.E. and that it was not allowed to run its full course then but God stopped World War I in November of 1918. From then on God was allowing an interval for the activity of his anointed remnant of elect Christians before he let the final part of the "great tribulation" resume at the battle of Armageddon and come to its termination. This would allow for sheeplike persons to be saved.—Matt. 25:31-46.
Seeing as that my mom did not get baptized until several years after this, helps me understand that a number of JWs do not really know the origins of their religion. I never read or heard of this before. So basically, the great tribulation has already started but is on hold? So when they talk about the great tribulation now, are they talking about the continuation of what was put on hold years ago or did that turn out not to be the great tribulation at all meaning that it will be a whole new event?
If confusion is poison, then these folks are really dishing it out.

we used to have bible games at parties.
we used to discuss doctrinal matters in the car group in service, and at get-togethers.
I never knew that the paragraghs were not read. Very interesting. Did they lengthen the meeting when they start doing this? This was just before my mom got serious with the JWs.

i've been giving this a lot of thought.
i'm thinking that, as a born-in, i was raised thinking that everybody who wasn't a dub was stupid and i had to go door-to-door to enlighten them.
and that the ones who were so stupid and stubborn as to not respond to my message (which was all of them, lol!
Anyway, he can't understand why his children don't come around him and visit him and have a strong sense of family. I've tried to explain to him that, being raised as Dubs, we had to try to distance ourselves from him emotionally because he was not a Dub and was going to be destroyed at Armageddon. We were taught to distance ourselves emotionally from all non-Dubs.
StAnn, its the same thing with my father. My siblings treat him like he doesn't exist unless they need some money from him. I call him more often since I stop attending meetings and he really appreciates it. He asked why the others don't call, I told him that he should ask them.
when I'm with Dubs, I have a very difficult time conversing meaningfully because their range of topics is so narrow.
I find this to be true as well, even with family members. If you're not gossiping about folks in the congregation or repeating what was said on the platform or service car group (b'cuz most are word-of-mouth as many don't read their own materials) then there really isn't much to talk about because everything else is futile in their eyes.

Logic,
I think it would take more than getting rid of the door-to-door ministry. If at a minimum they let folks openly celebrate birthdays and had a choir, I think the KH would be FULL every sunday. Toss in charity work, Father's day and Mother's day and some kind of childrens program. They would be busting at the seams. If they could top it off with finding a way to celebrate something during the christmas season or even celebrating it in Sept...they would see growth so fast their heads would spin.
some here have moved on, some have found new faith and some have haven't.
