I would guesstimate about 40% seriously doubt the religion but feel compelled to go along with it for various reasons.

How is your life affected by the Jehovah's Witness religion now?
by jambon1 inwhether you are new 'out' of the org or you have been out for a number of years, how does the org affect your life at the moment?.
how do you feel about the way the religion influences your life at the moment, even in the smallest ways?.
thanks.. please state how long you have been away from the religion if possible.. .

I'm slightly inconvenienced when JW acquaintances want to talk about the meetings or call to share hot gossip. It all seems so trivial now. Then I have a couple of inactive JW friends that know about my fade that encourage me to go back from time to time. In their words, "we can all do it together"

Were You Proud To Be A Witness?
by minimus inas a kid, i was.

Not really. Truth be told I very rarely told anyone I was a JW. I never mentioned it at work and rarely during my school years, where as some folks wore it like a badge of honor. However, when folks did find out they were surprised and its not like I lived a double-life, I just wasn't preachy or inviting people to the memorial or leaving tracts with them or placing YPA books with folks. I was very active in social activities during my school years (with encouragement from my JW mom). I've always gone to happy hours and dinners...just a good career and social move. Glad I did, made it easier to reconnect with folks when I decided to fade.

2010 Year Text - Oh, the irony!
by lepermessiah inyeartext for 2010 is from the last part of verse 7 and the first part of verse 8 in 1 cor.
13 7:8.. "love endures all things.
love never fails.".

This religion is a real trip. "Love endures all things"...in other words, if you really love Jehovah you will endure the imperfections of the organization and the men that lead it. If you really love Jehovah, you will stay faithful despite the false prophecies and it being obvious its all a racket.
Its all a mind game.
Set yourself free!!!

would you ever forget your life as a JW?
by highdose inand would you want to?
its starting to seem like a distent memory for me, even though its only been a year.

I will probably never forget but volume has been turned down very low. I'm no longer consumed about the length of time I was duped (I knew it was a sham in '95 but wanted to prove I was faithful). Anyway, the idea of being a JW seems more and more foreign to me. Its hasn't been 'us' or 'we' for a long time but 'them','they' and 'those people'.
After living a "normal" life for about year, the whole JW thing definitely starts to fade to black (or at least dark gray).
Happy living everyone!!!

In your experience how many DFd return to the WTS?
by teel infrom the 11/15/09 wt study article: "it is heartwarming to know that a large number of such ones [disfellowshipped ones] later return to jehovah and his congregation...".
this is a typical cult phrase, where they use a generic unverifiable statement to prove a point.
so, since we're not likely to get an official answer from the wt, how many of the dfd ones in your vicinity has actually been reinstated?.

Having a DF'd relative (especially in your immediate family) can be very inconvenient on both ends. Many return for their family and then simply become inactive within a year. At least that was the case with every relative of mine thats ever been DF'd. Now they attend family functions and its as if they were never a JW.

The Microsoft Windows calendar goes until 2099...so we should be okay at least until then.
But yes, 2012: Doomsday is the bootleg version. The real 2012 movie hits theatres today...Friday the 13th.

I believe there was a man named Jesus and he had a group of followers. I do not believe he was the son of God. Most religions have a "Jesus".
What gets me about the Jesus story its that its basically about an alien that came to earth, made some promises and then left again for outerspace and is supposedly watching mankind from there.
