Most-Ignored Scriptures by JWs
by Mad Sweeney inthe watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

People You've Met
by watson inborn and bred a jw, i never really developed many relationships outside the org.
with the exception of employees, virtually none.
i wonder what would have happened if i had tried to reach out to different "interesting" individuals that i ran into over the years.

I don't typically tell people about my past but only because I'm focused on my future. If it comes up naturally, then I just give a quick snippet and move on. Kind of like what I've done with my life...moved on.
I totally get you on the staying in touch with folks. I used to do that but then stopped. It was weird at first catching up with acquaintances whose invitations I always turned down or to whom I came off as morally superior. For those folks, I simply tell them that "I woke up". One old work acquaintance replied "Welcome back to real life. I wondered when you would get out. "
People know the witnesses are a crazy religion and most non-JWs really don't care about your religion, unless you are trying to ram it down their throats.

Beautiful story and I believe every word of it. When you slow down and give people a bit of your time its amazing how they will share a bit of themselves with you. It can be an enriching experience for all involved. I've had similar experiences.
Beksbks, you're a needed soul in the universe. Your story brought me to tears. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The 14,400-Anointed JWs, are they only whites no people of color???
by Scott77 inis samuel hard's appointment to gb, an attempt of jw to fight off racial accusation?
why is that the majority of 144000 are only white people?
if the 144000 is an equal representation of all people from the earth, how about the chinese?

In my experience, when a women partook at the memorial she was labeled as crazy. Funny thing is....they typically were somewhat touched...ROFL.

No. After leaving the witnesses I realized how selfish and arrogant I was as a witness. I'm so much more a sincere, kind person now that I'm out.

Did leaving the WT build greater appreciation for or kill your reading of the Bible?
by lepermessiah ini am really on the fence on this issue right now and would love some opinions.. i find that i dont sit down and read the bible for long periods since becoming inactive, but on the other hand, individual scriptures mean much more to me now.. i will sit down and look up some favorite passages from time to time and feel like its the first time i really "got it" - without the jw goggles on.
i love matthew chapter 23, since i think it describes to a tee the situation in jw congregations.
i think if jesus returned today, he would blast the elders and "leaders" of the borg in a similar fashion (along with most religious leaders) .matthew 24 is actually more interesting to me now, simply because my whole life was waiting for the 1914 generation to end sometime during the reagan era!

Killed it stone dead. The bible IMO is myths, legends and fables.
With a few good principles mixed in.

My Dad Died Today
by cantleave inhe has been ill for some time, but it was still unexpected.
he was never a jw and i didn't really have a close relationship with him, since he remarried after my parents divorced.
i reunited with him in the mid 90's after over 10 years of not seeing him.. .

Why is it so hard for Ex-JWs to make that "final step" and give up Christianity?
by sabastious ini'm not sure if it's just denial on a lot of people's part, but the reason the jws doctrine is so wacky and controlling is because they are among the few religions that really try to follow the bible!.
the bible is the culprit here in actuality, but even after someone has "wizened up" to the misguided teachings of jehovah's witnesses they still hold the bible as inspired word of god.. why don't you believe that the governing body was chosen as the faithful and discreet slave in 1918?
because the only real evidence to that fact is that they say so.

Because they don't have to give it up.
Personally, I'm not christian. But if someone wants to be christian because it gives them some purpose in life or moral guidelines to follow...so be it. When you think about the person known as Christ, real or not, the underlying principles of his life are rooted in love and generosity.
Now, I don't believe you have to be Christian to understand or display similar acts. But if that's the path one choses, so be it. Its religion that has messed up Christ. Christians are not following Christ, they are following his followers and their interpretations of what Christ did and meant. If he were real, I'm sure he'd be a very nice person to meet for coffee.

At some point before where I am today, I would have used any of the words in your list. Now, I would just sum it up as a waste of time.
