I think pranking the convention is a terrible idea. Grow up and show some respect. All you will accomplish is upsetting a bunch of little old ladies who will be sincerely offended and probably get yourself in worse trouble than whatever you did to have a judge say you must stay with your mother. BTW, where is your mother if only your aunt and uncle are there with you? Also how is it you are able to bring your laptop with you? Last convention I was at (2 months ago) I saw no one with a laptop or electronic device in the stands. I am pretty sure most convention sites don't have wireless connections.

Do witnesses visit loved ones grave sites?
by NotaNess incurious about that one.
were visiting my wifes family in new orleans this week, and she brought up going see her relatives graves.
if they do how does the experience differ from a non-witness.

We have visited some of my husbands family graves, with members of the family who are ardent JWs. I think it was a way of reconnecting for my FIL. And we are planning another day trip ( including some antiquing SP?) to check on some of the shrubs he planted there. Incidentally, my in laws took my oldest son with them to do the gardening so they must not feel they are doing anything wrong.

I just had to come back and read this again. You have opened my eyes to some issues I still need to work on. glad to know it isn't just me. I am also going to print it out so I can keep it handy to remind myself to be strong.

Inspired or Guilted by the One-legged Pioneer Sister?
by compound complex infriends: guilted or inspired?.
one of our dear regular posters mentioned that she knew the same one-legged pioneer sister i had heard tell of throughout my career as a jehovah's witness.
the tear-jerking accounts of her ten exemplary, theocratic children, all of whom could recite the books of the bible before they could say dada, inspired me to teach my own children well, however late in their own adolescence it took them to come up with their own gurgly version of dada.

Those stories always made me gag a little. Then later the guilt would kick in. I think i hate that one legged pioneer sister.

AHEM!
"So, summed up, I felt the organization was a crutch for my wife. Eventually I stopped trying to kick the crutch out from under her and supported her needs until she could stand on her own. When she could stand, she took the first step herself."
You neglected to mention that every time you tried the kick the crutch out I tried to beat you to death with it.
All I knew was being a JW. All my friends, my parents and identity were tied up in the JW's. I'll let you know when i start sleeping again, without nightmares, and the pain in my chest lessens when ever I think about the huge changes I have made lately. So cut your spouses some slack, this isn't easy for anyone. -

Rabbit, I was not saying every case was like that. My point was, we don't know all the facts. We know what was printed in the newspaper. It seems to me that when we see "Blood" and "Jehovah's Witness" in the same article in the paper every jumps all over it as validation for every single bad thing that ever happened to them. "The society is evil" "Jehovah's Witnesses must be stamped out".
I have read over and over again on these forums to open my mind, research the topics and form my own reasonings, not just regurgitate tired and worn party lines that have been force fed to me. I was trying to interject another point of view.
PS: I am very sorry for your loss and I understand the pain of losing a loved one needlessly.

I hate Walmart!
by Elsewhere ini rarely ever set foot in the place and will go out of my way to avoid shopping there.
tonight i made the mistake of giving walmart the benefit of the doubt and walked in the door.. they didn't have the main item i was looking for, but they did have one other small item.
i headed to the front to check out only to find they had only a few check-outs open and all of the lines were far too long.

I don't "Hate" Walmart, however I don't shop there as much as I used to. Long line ups and I always seem to spend too much. Plus, at the store closest to me there is a MacDonald's right at the front of the store, which I hate, being on a diet and usually starving after trying to shop with three kids. The number one reason I still go to Walmart is......they have the best price on huggies diapers in town. all the time. not just when they are on sale. The number two reason is......kids clothes. Good prices, easy return policy and a wide selection. Just my two cents.

The "Jehovah book"
by Paralipomenon inthis has been an interesting week.
since opening her mind to the idea that the witnesses may be wrong, my wife and i have been enjoying many long deep topics of conversation.
one thing that happened yesterday that we were both able to laugh at was something my son said.
