I keep my background check current anyway. It looks good on resumes and cuts down on red tape when you are volunteering. I am actually surprised more jobs don't ask for one. To me it is as important as having my first aid up to date.

When I was much much younger I cut my very long beautiful hair very short and dyed it red. (anything to piss off an exboyfriend, am I right Ladies?!)
One elder commented that it was obvious I was going to have trouble with headship if I ever got married and several sisters thought I looked "Butch". Little did they know that in the future yes I would have trouble with headship, just ask Para and as to the other....what they don't know won't hurt them (EVIL GRIN).

Help! I'm having serious thoughts about going back
by lola28 inhello old friends, i've been thinking about going back and need you all to give me your thoughts on it.. the last year has been a horribe one for me, in the span of less than a year the following things have happened to me:.
lost my mom to cancergot hit by a carhad a professional set back that will cost over 600k to resolveended a three and a half year relationshipit just feels like every time i think things are going to get better something else hits me and knocks me down, a small part of me wonders wether i brought all these things on myself because i left the organization (yes i know how silly that sounds) and i have given serious thought about going back.
i need you guys to talk me out of it!.

Going back will not help in the long run. Take time now to focus on healing yourself without trying to live up to an unatainable standard. Try to think out side the box. Don't look at what you think might make you feel better even though you once left it behind. Look for something new.
I know when you feel like everything is beating you down it is hard to lift your head up and look forward but that is exactly what you must do. Look for oppourtunities to do something different. Could be something small like smiling at the cute guy/girl in the grocery line.

A message from youtube regarding negative votes on Sparlock videos
by Amelia Ashton ini don't seem to be making myself clear these days.

there has been so many "dislikes" on sparlock clips i received a message from youtube.. i asked for people to "like" the videos instead of "dislike" because this will also push the videos to the top of searches and hopefully get more views especially for jws searching from it .. i am now getting abuse.. please can people "like" the clips so the balance between like and dislike gets reversed.. ty x.

my focus is on 3 groups.
the third group consists of people people who grew up in homes where one parent was a jw and the other wasn't.

Growing up in a divided household hold I always felt so isolated. I have been crying my eyes out reading these responses because I can relate so much and now I feel like I wasn't the only one.
A special hug goes out to anyone who survived a divided family.

- Was your non-JW parent ever a JW? My father was an unbeliever until I was in my twenties.
- Who was responsible for your religious upbringing? The JW or the non-JW? My mother, the JW, was in charge of our religious upbringing.
- Did they argue about it? I remember a couple of loud shouting arguments around the time I think my mother got baptized. Dad refused to allow us to go out in service until I was 16 years old. That caused alot of tension between Mom and Dad.
- Were you forced to go? I don't remember being given a choice. I don't remember Dad ever trying to stop her from taking us.
- Did the non-JW parent have any real say in how the family celebrated holidays? We would go to my father's parents house for christmas until I was 8 years old, then I told Dad I didn't want to go any more. Mom was always so mad at us for going it just wasn't worth it. I broke my father's heart that year and I think I ruined our relationship beyond repair.
- Over all what impact did this split household have on your childhood and even later in life? My mother had such complete control over us that I grew up with a very unhealthy view of how a parent/child relationship should be. I also think the worry that my Dad was going to die at armageddon lead me to fear loving him too much. Dad stood up a few times for me and let me do some "normal" stuff. Mom always made me feel so bad about it later that I stopped asking.
- What would you want therapists to know about your situation? I would like therapists who are working with adults who grew up in divided households to understand how hard it is for us to trust and love. We grow up trying to please everyone and end up failing everyone, because after all, we were just children. I am still a people pleaser, even when the cost is too high. I try to make everyone happy and spend way to much time worrying that I am doing something wrong.
- Any other thoughts? The unbelieving parent can't win against the JW parent. When my mother would say, "I am doing this so that our children will live forever in paradise", what was Dad to say? "No, I'd rather they celebrated the holidays now and died with me at Armegeddon" I still have a lot of anger towards my Dad for not standing up to Mom and saving my sister and I. I hate my mother for using the bible and religion to guilt trip me into doing what she wanted.
