I have always had a problem harmonizing the Theory of Evolution with that of creation. It has to be one or the other. And in my heart of hearts I would like evolution exposed as a great hoax. Yes I want to believe in a creator, and quite frankly I dont want my existence attributed to being the end product of a series of endless biological errors.
My problem is that the preponderance of the evidence to date is on the side of evolution; in fact its massive and growing all the time. I wonder, how we can overcome this?
Regrettably the strength of the creation argument seems not to be base on anything substantive and not empirical evidence, but rather is mostly based on the imperfection of Darwinism itself.
Darwinism is far from a perfect model in explaining the reality of evolution, but we are forced to admit it is a working model. You dont even need to go to the ends of the earth such as Darwin did to see these mechanisms in action, a number of fields of science clearly demonstrate some of the most basic precepts of the Darwin model.
What we who would like to believe in a special creation need is a working creation model. Unfortunately on our side, to date there is no model, perfect or otherwise. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if we ever are able to put forth such a model, it has to be nothing less then perfect. We dont have the luxury of having an imperfect model because anything less then Gods perfection is not acceptable.
I sure hope we can overcome all this evidence supporting evolution, but so far it doesnt look too good for our side.

i am an outsider ( a non jw from ) and just accidentally happened to follow a link to this site.
i have found these postings really interesting.
i would like to tell you a little story of my own too: i was a while ago in a situation where a dated a jw girl.
Joshua,
All that you are being told is quite true. You see the JW religion requires of its adherents a great deal. It not only requires large amounts of time, but it requires a full commitment of self.
Do you fully comprehend what this means?
The JW religion requires TOTAL LOYALTY, nothing less is acceptable! In fact a follower of the JW religion must place loyalty to Watchtower society above their own lives, even the lives of their own children. You must not only be willing to die for this religion should the need arise, you must do so Joyfully!
And because the commitment to the Watchtower is so firm, so embedded, any threat to the idea that the Watchtower is Gods only organization will trigger a number of mental protection mechanisms, not the least of which is rejection of the person threatening their little Watchtower world.
By pointing out the shortcomings of the Watchtower, I have threaten my wifes little Watchtower world; so I will never be close to her again. She thinks she is doing the right thing, and I understand that but it still hurts. I just cant tell you in words alone what a strain this has put on our marriage and on our family.
Im not normally one who would advocate that anyone should not be allowed to do as they please, however in hindsight, I wish there was a law that required all religions, particularly highly controlling religions such as the Watchtower to disclose all aspects of just what their religion requires of it's members before one joins.
Much like the truth in lending statement that must be provided before you commit to a loan, one should know all the hidden fees and costs before you sign on the dotted line.
And lastly, if after reading the full disclosure document, and deciding to go ahead with a commitment to this religion, trained competent psychologists should examine the perspective convert, because nobody in their right mind would willing join this cult if they knew all the facts as I do now.

my brother and his family have been jw's for over 10 years now.
i am not and no one else in my family is a jw.
my brother's son will be getting married shortly and we will be attending the service in the kh.
As you are probably aware, the first wedding was performed by God himself in the Garden of Eden. The JW wedding is a simple ceremony fashioned after the verses in the Bible book of Genesis. There will be many scriptures quoted outlining the responsibilities of both the husband and the wife.
You should be aware that they dont throw rice at the end as this custom is of pagan origin, so dont bring any.
For most people the most striking difference is the nudity. The audience is not required to be nude, however understandably the bride and groom are, as the first bride and groom were. I would say that 75% of the time the wedding party is also nude, but that is not mandatory, only the bride and groom must be nude just as the first bride and groom were back in Eden.
Its actually a very lovely ceremony, Im sure you will enjoy it.

They still dont get it, do they? When a child is raped and the child is the only witness, sorry kid its your word against his.
What would happen if the so-called brother is accused not of rape, but of murder, of killing his wife? The only witness to the alleged crime is the surviving child.
Will the elders also say, sorry kid cant do anything about it or will they at least call the police and let them investigate?
See the double standard?
Possible crime of murder, call the police, possible crime of child rape, cant call the police without two witnesses, and maybe not even then.
So why is this sick policy in place, why the double standard?
Ask yourself; of what crime have some members of the governing body accused?
Ill give you a hint; its not murder.
Now you get the picture dont you?
Theyre not just protecting the congregation pedophiles; theyre protecting the governing pedophiles!

s.. do u believe that neanderthals/cro-magnons were bound 2 god in a covenant relationship?.
a religious group in america doesn't believe in saying the names of the days because they r of pagan origin, should u therefore do the same to prove u r less pagan?.
i wonder what answer i would receive?
Badboy,
As far as Neanderthals and Cro-magnons being bound to God in a covenant relationship, I believe they were. If I recall correctly, in the holy cave writings, God provided the symbol fire as an everlasting sign of this covenant. The everlasting sign lasted until God put out the fire during the flood, followed of course by yet another everlasting sign of the rainbow.
It seems I very vaguely remember some tidbit about a JW calendar that eliminated the pagan references. Im thinking this was long ago in JW history, like maybe from the 1930s or so. Then again maybe my memory is playing tricks on me again; see why you should stay away from drugs, dont do drugs.
Seriously, someone such as Alan F. or another sharp poster may be able to confirm the theocratic calendar, or my dementia, perhaps both.

Willy_Think,
Thanks for the interesting link. I have read some of this information before but this is the first time I have seen it all compiled in one place. Without getting bogged down in any type of debate, I would like to point out again that for whatever the reasons stated in defense of the NWT, the NWT is not a translation at all but a trans- literation, there is a big big difference!
A translation requires scholars and a long time to complete, many die long before completing the task, a transliteration on the other hand does not.
Not one person on the so-called translation committee had even the most basic skills or credentials required, and the NWT, as many true scholars have indicated, sure does show it.

To say it is the best available, is an assertion with little support
at best. However I do have to agree that the interlinear itself is quite
good. Please reread what he said, he was praising the interlinear,
not the NWT bible, a BIG DIFERENCE! What he did not state, and you
would know this by examining it for yourself, is that The Kingdom
Interlinear Translation Of the Greek Scriptures a ccurately shows
what a poor, dishonest, and biased translation or more correctly a
trans-literation the NWT truly is.
Yes the kingdom interlinear shows how the NWT deviates in certain
passages so as to support the witnesses unorthodox theology without
regard to giving a consistent rendering of the Greek text.
Just my 2 cents

i've heard a ton of "bad counsel" given by elders such as "you should or shouldn't marry this person", "give up that job", "you should pioneer"........were you given any "bad counsel"?
I was told I had to leave a good paying job, (it was in a defense plant). I quit the job and I paid a price of low paying jobs for years and years.
Then I got another great job that was not defense related at all but they came around again, and this time they told me I had to make a choice, a choice between my job or going to the meetings. I miss some meetings because I had to fly each week.
This time I kept the job, lost the meetings, and now have a REAL life in the REAL world. Best decision I ever made in my life!
