My partner (DF'd a long time ago) told me that when he was in his early teens, his mother made him burn his collector's edition set of Tolkien's trilogy because she was worried about demons. Ironic when you consider the fact that their dad was beating the crap out of them all the time as well as doing a little dabbling in the sexual abuse of other people's kids. Yeah, he's in a federal "pound me in the a**" prison now. Good thing she kept them safe from those demons though....

TV progams that must be not be viewed at all costs
by TooBad TooSad inthe elder giving the public talk a couple of weeks ago told the congregation that there are more and more.
movies and tv programs, like charmed, or books and movies like harry potter that must be avoided at all costs.
because they are a direct link to demonism and spiritism.

My conversation with a Born Again.
by yourmomma ini spoke with a born again today.
i am wondering if this person represents how they all think or just some.
i'll assume just some.

Speaking as a 'born again', I can assure you that we do not all share that belief. Additionally we are not supposed to judge one another and I can assume that means speculating whether so-and-so is going to hell or not. Romans 2:14, "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things" (NIV).
Revelation 5:9 is a song to Christ, "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tibe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God and they will reign on the earth" (NIV)."
Bear with me now - this is leading somewhere...Romans 2:14 reads, "Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them" (NIV).
If every manner of people will reign on the earth, and those who don't 'have the law' but are driven by their consciences to obey 'the law', who is anyone to say that certain JW's will not 'make it'? That is up to the Lord who knows our hearts. -

Are We Any Better Than the Witnesses?
by Caljuher ini have just been on this board a short time.
i have been visiting it for years, however, via the freeminds site since i left the jws in the late 1990s.. but there is so much anger and pain and hatred--especially for people who still want to believe in some kind of god or religion--on this board that it doesn't seem to be so healthy of a place.
why so much hate?

Thinking about going GFCF (gluten "wheat" free and casein "milk" free)
by mrsjones5 infor the sake of my youngest son joshua who has autism specturm disorder.
it would mean overhauling my family's diet but i think it would be worth it.
i've found a few websites that look helpful like this one: http://www.gfcf-diet.talkaboutcuringautism.org/index.html and it seems encouraging and doable.. is anyone dealing with this dietary issue?.

Acts 15:19,20,28,29 what does it really mean?
by beginnersmind ini'm not completely sold on these verses at acts 15:19,20,28,29 meaning it was just to keep harmony with jews and gentiles.
i can see that meaning in those verses but also another one.
to me that can mean that they arent going to add circumcision to the list of burdens or necessary things and those things listed in v29 are burdens not simply some things to keep harmony.

This article is lengthy but I feel like it is the most coherent explanation given for the Acts 15 issue you are wondering about...

My story: "Pop!" goes the Little Circuit Breaker
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land ini guess it's about time i write my story.
i've put this off for a long time... primarily becuase, while i thought my story was bad, i've read so many worse and heart-rending stories here.
i think, though, there is some therapeutic value in 'letting it all out' with others who know what 'it' was like.

TJ My heart aches, aches, aches for you. The emotional torture you went through is very similar to what my partner and his siblings went through as children and we have spent many a night in tears as he works past those demons. I wish peace for you...NoLoveLost

Hello everyone! Lurking here a couple of years (under another name) for a long time, but not much of a poster. I have never been a JW but my partner of 10 years is DF'd and his very large family occupies various positions on the spectrum of 'standings' within the congregation. The accumulated wisdom and knowledge on this board never ceases to amaze me - not to mention the support and compassion. You guys have been invaluable in keeping me clear of the whirling vortex of the WT world! Thank You!!!

Cloth Diapers
by reneeisorym inso .. my husband and i are going to start trying for kids next year.
we had a long discussion last night about disposable diapers vs. cloth diapers.
i know this decision can wait but i just like talking about my expectations early rather than end up with conflict later on.. i want to use cloth diapers and he thinks disposables are the way to go.

I loved cloth diapers (kissaluvs) and the diaper wraps (bummies) that we ended up using. We installed a sprayer onto the toilet and just sprayed the diapers off. Check E-bay, sometimes you can get lucky if price is an issue. My daughter always got a rash with disposables - even regular baby wipes make her bottom break out. I didn't find it to be too much more of a hassle than disposables. You can always do both. Do cloth at home and then use disposables when out or traveling. And, just my two cents, breastfeeding is one of the greatest things you can do for your new baby! But if you are going to use formula, Nestle has a new formula out that includes probiotics similar to the gastrointestinal flora found in the intestines of breastfed babies.
