Maddie, whether or not it changes anyone else's opinion of the cult, standing up for what you believe is ALWAYS the right thing to do.....no matter how you choose to do it.

Jehovah's Witnesses more likely to be swindled by quack medicine and conmen
by B_Deserter inwe all know how every congregation has that elders wife who takes it upon herself to be the hall's resident doctor quinn: medicine woman.
they are constantly pushing herbal supplements and natural medicines at the very least, and at times even getting a little "spiritistic" with some of the crazier quack devices out there.
do i think they're stupid?

Will you be raising your hand to ask permission to answer the questions?
Do you raise your hand to ask permission to go to little boy's room?
Are you wearing a disguise?
Are you wearing panty hose under your slacks?
Does anyone know you've hacked the WTS website?

Why I think I chose the study of psychology
by Alex Delta inin the 1960s my mother and father came to this country knowing one language, one religion, and what hard work ethics were.
they were in a complete aw of what america was like.
they came here with very little knowledge and very little monies, so wed be safe to say that they were very gullible right.

Too bad you didn't choose English.
You could have learned sentence structure and how to start and end a paragraph.

Dr. Ehrman's "Problem" Verse
by hmike insome of you know about dr. bart ehrman.
for those who don't, dr. ehrman is a professor of religious studies at the university of north carolina, chapel hill, and has written several books including misquoting jesus: the story behind who changed the bible and why, in which he includes some biographical material.
in this book, ehrman recounts how he became a christian through a youth ministry while in high school, and he claimed to have had a genuine "born again" experience (although he doesn't give any details of what that experience was for him).

I am glad to see an opportunity for intellectual discussion here amongst the riff-raff.
That's all I have to contribute.
I am simply a scholar hoping to learn something from someone smarter.
That being said, hopefully Leolai will be along soon.

Why believe god?
by LtCmd.Lore inassuming for the sake of argument that the bible is inspired of god, why do you trust this god?.
how do you know anything he says is true?.
for all you know, satan may have created everything, and then yahweh came in to take the credit.. for all you know, yahweh may just like messing with people.

Did the WT Discourage Platonic Friendships Between Men & Women ?
by flipper inmy wife and i have discussed this before , and it has been an education for me getting out of the jehovah's witnesses over 4 years ago to see the difference in how witnesses and non-witnesses view this subject .
my wife before we met had some guy friends who she had non sexual friendships with and she was amazed when we first started dating when i told her how strict the witnesses were on men and women hanging out together alone just as friends , and that when i was a witness i never did that - at the risk of being falsely dragged before a committee if i was found in public alone with a witness woman !
my wife was amazed at the lack of trust that the elders had in each one of us as rank and file members !

If an emergency arose and a brother and sister were in a car together for field service, one should sit in the back.....just in case something COULD happen.
This is the way we practiced for it..".in case"

After reading in the Awake magazine about what a good life it is to give up a corporate job to drive an ice cream truck....I thought maybe so many are clammoring for that sort of job now. And also, I was insipred to throw this bone to the mob because of reading so many whiners on the "can't make ends meet" thread.
I figured worm farming is very little effort to sustain a non-worldly way of life and give you more time for FS.
Heck. You could even grow some bamboo for the fishing poles, too. All you have to do is water once a week.
Easy work.
